    1. Thank you and I appreciate your sharing your experience. 2. My driving is probably less than 300 miles a month in retirement except for the visit to a relative about every 4 months. I drive a 2004 Toyota. No oil leaks. Type of driving? To the liquor store or super market. 3. The family has had 3 other units of the same generation of Toyota and each of them lasted more than 250,000 miles because they weren't doing the 10,000 mile oil changes and were not using synthetics. 4. The sales tax/increased registration fees, the additional types of insurance required on a newly acquired and financed car should enter into the consideration of the frequency of the oil changes. If a person goes from long commutes to short hops all of a sudden, the oil analysis done last year or two years ago will, of course, become questionable as a future guide. Just for kicks, I looked up the cost in 2015 of replacing valve seals on a Yaris. Yikes! It would be time to send it to the junk yard. With 300,000 miles and the cost of repairs, what would I do? Exactly what I did years ago in Palm Springs, Ca in the summer when the car gave up the ghost. Caught a ride back to Los Angeles. Donated the car to charity and met the charity tow service the next weekend. I drove my back up car. Make sure you either have a backup car or AAA extended towing.

    The valve seals don't look too difficult to replace at home but requires a tool that costs about $100. I'll be doing them soon. Thanks for the comment!

    One thing I'll say is I would have changed the oil filter anyway. I see no reason not to. It's cheap, it gives me peace of mind, and I don't run the risk of leaving it in for 45000km if I mistakenly think I changed it last time and I didn't. For me changing it every time is the way.

    If I understand correctly, have you always used Castrol Edge SAE5W30 oil in your car???? I started using Castrol Edge 5w30 LL in a diesel engine and it improved the cold lubrication in the hydraulic tappets, they no longer make any noise and the engine sounds very smooth.

  • @EndlessMoneyPits
    @EndlessMoneyPits10 күн бұрын

    I actually used Mobil 1 for a long time. Changed to Castol probably 10 years ago because that's what BMW put in at the factory. I think both make good oils.

    I find these oil analyses very interesting and have had them done on previous vehicles I've owned from time to time. I currently own a Honda Rdigeline and a Mazda Miata, but both are low mileage and I haven't done oil analysis on either one yet. The Honda is my daily driver and I do run longer drains (up to 7500 mi), since I drive it a lot and don't want to waste money. However, the Miata is a fair weather back road toy and I drive it hard, so I'm much more concerned about engine wear. I plan to change the Miata's oil/filter every 5000 mi or annually, whichever comes first, and I plan to do oil analyses every oil change, since it's only once per year.

  • @EndlessMoneyPits
    @EndlessMoneyPits14 күн бұрын

    Is that from wind noise or engine noise? If wind noise then maybe you could adjust the windshield?

  • @jonlough3074
    @jonlough307414 күн бұрын

    @EndlessMoneyPits wind noise as far as I can tell. Even with ear plugs in. I am tall so I ride with the windscreen off. I have been 3d printing some different deflectors and placing them on the bike to see what helps. I am wondering if it is some kind of buffetting that isn't at a frequency that shakes the helmet but makes noise. The windscreen makes the buffetting really bad and I can't even read road signs at the highway. Maybe it seems loud but isn't if that makes sense, like the sound is coming through my skull amd not my ears.

  • @EndlessMoneyPits
    @EndlessMoneyPits13 күн бұрын

    That sounds like buffetting to me. Keep playing around with your setup and you'll probably find a solution. Best of luck!
