I commented on Janey’s channel, “Dig, Plant, Water, Repeat” . She just got some barn cats to help with a rodent population. I don’t encourage more birds to come to my yard with water fountains etc. as I already have enough mature trees for them to nest. The neighbours cats do not wear bells on their collars in our urban area, and I dread every spring when I find baby birds clawed in my yard.😢

We have a koppert lab in our town, here in ontario, Canada. We live in a town that has always had the most greenhouse production/growers, and so the farmers use these for their crops. When people approach our town from far away even, they think they are seeing the northern lights, the sky glows purple and pink from led greenhouse lights. Lol I have been using those hanging tags for a long time. Actually, when ever you buy any hanging baskets or pots with flowers from nurseries here, they already come with the hanging tags. They work fantastic.

@tracyduncan1331 Leamington. We have the largest concentration of greenhouses in North America, in our small town. Leamington is the tomato capital of Canada, and also cannibis. So that's why I believe we have a koppert here, because of all the growers.

Benjamin is so cute, with his "there that should do it". I have a 10 year old son, and i always found it cute and amazing when they start to use expressive sentences that usually come from parents or teachers. Lol When you went out to plant, when it was overcast after the rain, wow, you can really see all the beauty and colour throughout your property on camera, with the cloudy skys. So pretty! What a beautiful property you have all put together. Love it.

FYI: You can put the baby bird back in the nest. It's not true that the Mom/Dad will reject then due to being touched by a human. We have had to do that numerous times! Just make sure you are wearing a big hat, a rain coat that can go into the washer, gloves b/c you will get poop bombed while you are doing this. My hubs and I learned this the first time we had to do that for Robins.

Right. The only birds that actually can affect are predatory birds...owls, hawks, vultures, eagles etc. Those types of birds, you leave and let nature and the parents take care of.

I’m glad you’re teaching everyone about using beneficial insects. It’s a growing enterprise and I hope your influence helps spread their use from home gardeners to commercial agriculture. PS: I wouldn’t find it distracting in the slightest if you wore sunglasses outside. Cataracts come from cumulative sun damage. Ask me how I know. It’s scary for me to know that I have eye surgery in my future because I didn’t take it seriously when I was younger. I’m 69 now. Good your children are wearing sunglasses!

Birds are fledging now (last week of June - first week of July.) It's best to keep of your your pets indoors at this time while the babies learn to fly. Also that big swinging movement hummingbirds make is a mating dance to impress the ladies and they'll do it throughout the mating season, so there was probably a girl nearby.. And interestingly, bees don't 'see' red, although they do see orange & yellow, so it'll be interesting to see how many visit your red flowers.

I loooove warm tones (peach, yellow, orange, pink, red) so I'm really excited to see this new area you've planted! I know your normal cool colors are very soothing, but I think the warm tones just bring that big hit of dopamine, personally. Excited to see it fill in!

It's awesome to see you growing salvia and cuphea. I grow many varieties of salvia and cupea for my hummingbirds. I only have containers, small area, but still so many plants. Flowers by the Sea closed last year. They carried so many of the varieties I grew. I would like to see PV grow more varieties! Did you ever get your tooth fixed from last year? The white salvia is what I called mealy cup sage, which I grow from seed yearly. The orange/red cuphea is called Bat faced Cuphea in other grower's names.

Koppert are great! I bought some mites for my houseplant collection last year and I believe I still have some around! They love humidity and temps around 70. It’s perfect that it rained after putting them I think. Hopefully Koppert has made the packets coated with plastic by now, because the ones I had were paper I believe… not ideal, especially for outdoors.

Interesting how the website says not to use Swirski mite on tomatoes. Wonder why. I released lacewing eggs in my tunnel this year and it definitely seemed to help. 💚 For anyone buying ladybugs, please check where they come from. Many are wild harvested, vacuumed from their home in the CA foothills, not only disrupting the sustainability of that population, but can introduce disease to your native ladybugs. Insectary is the way to go. Not Amazon. 🐞💚
