@@misterphib in my last house I alternated them in the border with candytuft. As those were going out the geraniums were coming in. In our current home, I’m lining all the beds with the cranebill variety. They are a light blush color. But this time I’m putting them in to grow together and be a solid border. Now I can stop buying begonias each year. I spend a fortune on those.

Absolutely love this video Rosy - both informative and entertaining - my favourite you have done so far. Maybe you could do one advising which plants won't re bloom - as I struggle sometimes knowing which ones won't. Thanks.

Totally tangerine geum is one of my absolute favorite plants. But in my location in New York, instead of continual blooming, I get one huge display in the spring that lasts for quite a while but then it’s done for the year. I love this plant because it’s very impressive and full, divides easily, is pest free, and helps keeps weeds down through the season because it covers a nice amount of soil. ❤

That is an interesting point about how double-flowered varieties might offer a bit of a shelter bonus for certain insects. I think just making sure you offer a variety of flowers, with some important natives included in the mix for your area, is important. I think a lot of ornamental growers are now becoming more aware of how much people care about pollinators, and I think that will lead to more ornamental varieties being developed that consider pollinators as well as aesthetic considerations. As someone who grows professionally, observations that you have about how different varieties may benefit pollinators are really invaluable, thanks for sharing!

One of the longest flowerers for me is salvia Royal Bumble. Here in mild Cornwall it will flower from late spring and then well into late autumn

Don’t have to cut it back to get it to rebloom?

You cant beat Erodium manescavii , flowers from late April to Early November, Hardy Osteospermums flower from May to the first hard frost.

Great video Rosie. Gives me more ideas for yet more new plants! I planted a Geum last year (not totally tangerine) and have had some self seeded pop up. However the flowers are very insignificant and tiny, so I have been weeding them out.

Hi Rosie.. Really interesting selections,and we find the 🐰s here do not like the hairy- stemmed ones...bonus ! 😊. Our 3 penstemons grew well for us even in this late spring/summer's 40°+ C. unusual temps.here in 5a Zone. Still bloom reliably after we prune as per your video. Some plants are hard to find in the centres. Maybe they are not consistent sellers. Wrote these down,in case we get lucky. Looking forward to your next video 👍.

I should have added Linaria Peachy to my list and stated that Geum Marmalade is a winner.

How long does it take for geums to create new blooms after cutting off the stalk? I deadheaded my geums (princess Juliana and geum coccineum) as you recommended but until now no new blooms appeared.

Hi Rosy, I have seen in our local garden centre a beautiful silvery foliage plant - Convolvulus Cneorum (silver bush) which I really liked but saw on the plant label is has bindweed-like flowers that are white with yellow centres, which I don't actually like or would want - I would like it just for the shimmery silvery leaves, or if the flowers were pure white or white & pink, that would be ok (yellow doesn't fit with my planting theme). Is there any other plant similar to this without the flowers? Or would it be best to just cut all the flowers off when they come (which when I went back there yesterday, some were in flower now).

It's the dead of winter here in NZ, but coreopsis, garnet penstemon, yarrow, cape fuschia and the blue daisy ( forgotten name) as well as my mutabilis roses are all flowering. I do have early yellow and white irises and a few bright yellow daffodils already flowering. My geums are growing well and preparing for a good show as soon as the temperatures increase. I'm cold stratifying astrantia seeds atm, but I'm wondering if I left it too late. Does anyone have any ideas about how long the seeds will take to start sprouting??? Thanks, Jo😊

I love campanula lactiflora, mine is a bit taller it reach nearly 6 feet are they normal?

Persicaria Virginia is has an invasive nature in my area of NW USA and not recommended for this reason. Pretty but I’m still battling after removing more than 5 years ago.

@@clairerobinson2006this is why we do say we grow in the uk. Not all our garden plants are suitable for other countries. Hope you get on top of the Persicaria by persisting 👍

Oh interesting, our research indicated hardy to zone 4 for Coreopsis grandiflora - using gardenia. When doing these we can only trust what these sites say as we do not use the American zones commercially in the UK for our stock

Yes his may be the reason. Our primary advice to everyone in climates different to ours in UK is check with the local growers. As helpful as the internet is, local nurseries will always be the best experts for your specific location

Just because double flowers occur in the wild doesn't mean they're good. Lots of harmful traits occur in the wild; genetics aren't goal-oriented. Some insects may benefit from double flowers, but if the extra petals block out the majority of insects, then we need to ensure we're planting plenty of other plants they can eat from.
