    Ashton, I hope you don't mind me correcting: it's Conaty. It got me thinking, though. My great grandparents became Barnett from Titarski when they went to London from Krakow in 1900. Perhaps Conaty is some sort of de-Irishisation of O'Connarty as her forbears tried to fit into English ways.

    @@bradleybarnett9545🎯 the site I looked it up on said it's anglicized from O' Connachtaigh, but pretty darn close. Especially considering they're very similar in pronunciation despite the spelling vagaries and the loss of the O'. (If I pronounced them based on American habits, they would all sound wildly different.)

    I came here from taskmaster, attempting to get a better grasp of who Lucy is and I don't think I've gotten anywhere. It seems like Lucy is either genuinely missing some marbles or is playing a bit. I can't understand why Jon would marry someone missing some marbles so it all must be a bit, right? I prefer comedians who come from a place of genuine honesty so I'm struggling to find her funny. I know this video is a year old, but if you happen to have more insight on how much is a bit, I would love your thoughts!

  • @Delinae

    @Delinae

    Are you saying you don't find her funny assuming she's doing a bit, so if she is missing some marbles that would be genuine and you would find her funny as a result?

  • @evercuriousmichelle

    @evercuriousmichelle

    7 ай бұрын

    @@Delinae Sorry that was unclear! I don't like laughing at people who are actually ditsy or miss things others would pick up on. So I feel uncomfortable laughing at the character she is playing because it feels like I'm mocking people who genuinely just lack a bit of intelligence. I know others find that comedy funny so perhaps Jon is into that kind of bit? Assuming she has all her marbles, I wish she would show us her real self, I find genuine people more funny.

  • @Delinae

    @Delinae

    6 ай бұрын

    @@evercuriousmichelle I think I see, you mean you wonder if she could do a 3rd thing that's neither a bit or missing marbles? To me Lucy can be sharp and clear about concepts or things she can think through, but not if she has to pay attention to doing 4 new things at once. She can tell Alex that checking out in 3 minutes means he doesn't have time for milk due to her experience as a mom, but under pressure she will only remember to not look at the balloon she's supposed to burst and forget she needs to be as far away from it as possible. It seems to me that there's 10 new things going through her brain at once, so sometimes she can harness that to make unexpected connections, but sometimes the 10 things completely distracts her. I honestly find her kind of relatable lol. Some people in the taskmaster comments say Lucy has ADD. I don't know if this is true, but if it is, it's probably no different than Jon making self-deprecating jokes about his OCD.
