No matter how many times I hear this song, it hits me just as hard as the first time. I just saw that Ron passed, now he can rejoice in the presence of our Lord. Sadly, it means leaving those of us who appreciate and love his music and the man himself without him...but it's only for a time. I pray for the Hamilton family during this time.

I was a student at Bob Jones University when what would seem like a tragedy took place in Ron Hamilton's life. But within weeks, Southside Baptist Church, and the other churches in the Greenville area and the BJU Family had heard the amazing story of the birth of Patch the Pirate! I have sung this song so many times over the years. And even now, as I recover from a stroke, I can say, "For when I am tried and purified, I shall come forth as gold!" To the Glory of God in Heaven. God bless the Hamilton Family for this beautiful recording.

Ron Patch Hamilton was born while you were a student at BJU? What was the tragedy? I went to BJU one year 1983-1984 while my brother Keith was attending. I have always loved the Hamilton's and their music. SO ENCOURAGING AND NEVER GETS OLD!!!

I agree Just saw this video. What a legacy he is passing on to his children. The song came out of physical pain and suffering. The physical suffering is how he became known as Patch the Pirate.

Oh My. I'm crying right now. I grew up with Patch the Pirate. I was so close to Jesus during these days of my life. So many memories. The times of my life where I lived like a heathen, I could feel in My Spirit, "I miss you Jesus." That all changed in 1998. I'm subscring. On my face to Him on this One. Love you brothers and sisters for your faithfulness.❤. Blessed is the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth our God and King.

This song could not be more applicable in Mr Hamilton’s life than right now. So moving, so powerful

I was listening to this and thought Ron was singing. When I looked at it, I was shocked it wasn't him. His son sounds sooo much like his dad!

Is it just me or does he sound EXACTLY like Ron? I didn't realize it was a different singer (his son) until I looked up at the vid. and awesome a capella!

I've never had the experience of hearing a father's voice, and then hearing their son's voice. I definitely hear certain elements of Ron's voice in his son...fantastic quality!

With 54 thumbs down, I expected to see a few comments from trolls. It's great to see all positive, sincere comments! This song is the very first one I ever remember hearing by Ron Hamilton (in the 1970's I think)! From that point, the Majesty Music / Patch the Pirate road has been a wonderful one to travel. My wife and I had 2 girls and 2 boys, all grown now. They grew up on a heavy "diet" of this music, listening to it every night at bedtime and almost every day, memorizing many of the songs, and singing them in church and in our home school. Thanks, Majesty Music & "Patch," for being part of our special memories as a family!

Very special song, that God has used in my life so many times! I imagine that today “Captain Patch” has seen the Saviour already with his new eyes!!

When Jesus entered heaven from the cross, a thief came with him. Today, He welcomed a Pirate. Here because we just heard the news of Ron's passing. Patch the Pirate was a staple in my (Joseph's) growing up years. May God be a comfort to the Hamilton family.

My kids grew up listening to Patch the Pirate on 33 1/3 records and later I put the album onto a cassette so we could take it on our family travels and played it constantly. I never knew his testimony or even how he looked but my heart was blessed at the beautiful message in song and our family of 6 daughters and 4 sons was impacted and I am so thankful that I looked on the internet and found all these videos which we can watch. What a testimony of his family and beautiful singing of this song that he wrote.

Hi...I just read through Pastor Paul Chappel's blog that Mr. Ron Hamilton has just been promoted to glory. I feel sad for his demise, but rejoice to know he is now with the Lord. The first song that teaches me to be humble is "A Servant's Heart." And this song is the second one. Praying for Mrs. Hamilton and the family (Php. 4:4)
