This looks like a great show! A lot of people are commenting on the entirely white cast, but there are entirely POC casts on Broadway right now that are amazing, so there isn't really a difference.

I just saw this show in theaters and it was enjoyable I was just very confused by the lack of black people.... considering it’s a jazz band in the 40s... idk I’m just thinking about history. Also did no black people fight in WW2?

Someone explain to me why they're drawn to this piece- besides the two leads, which based on this video, frankly, I'm quite underwhelmed by... Also, if they're doing a musical about the 1940s jazz/bigband scene, they should have found singers whose voice had some flavor from they era. Corey and Laura have such typical, clear, MT voices that it pulls us out of that world, in my opinion. They're both wonderfully kind people, just wrong for the piece in my opinion.

I'm honestly quite confused too, is this a revival?? an adaptation from a movie?? or are people just atracted to this just because of the leads??

Mariana Barbosa do you see this choreography?? Do you hear the amazingly wonderful jazzy beat of the music?? That's what makes it amazing, not just Corey and Laura

Your comment certainly makes it seem that you have not actually seen the show. So, yes, you can comment on this particular video and what is contained in it, but it's more than a bit too far to opine that Osnes and Cott are "just wrong for the piece." You haven't seen the piece. And, while this video gives glimpses of various numbers, in rehearsal, without sets, lights, costumes, styling, and the flow of an entire show/story, from beginning to end, it does not represent the experience of seeing the actual, entire show. For myself, having not seen the show, what first attracted me (besides some extremely positive opinions and some reluctantly negative ones, all expressed on a theater discussion site, by discerning folks, whose opinions I value) was the performance they did on the Tony Awards show, and then a few clips here and there. But, having finally gotten the cast recording and listened to it several times, the music and performances are what really intrigue and move me. From reports/reviews of the actual show, it seems pretty evident that BANDSTAND had problems, and didn't quite gel successfully as a piece. Nevertheless, I really wish I could have seen it, and I hope it has a future being performed, and maybe even with more work that might rectify somewhat the elements that didn't work.

I’m drawn to it because of the representation. As someone with ptsd, minor ocd and a lot of problems that are shown through these characters it’s nice to see people like me. People who are afraid of loosing the good things they have and people who use music to cope. The music is beautiful along with the choreo, the actors do an amazing job with being realistic with their characters. I haven’t seen such an honest show in a very long time. And I have only heard of Corey and Laura before this, I’m definitely not listening because of them

well.. I mean, it's 2017 but the musical is based in 1945. The show is about the service men who came home from WW2. Not surprised about the male leads.

CandyReviewer4427 hundreds of thousands of people of color served in the military during World War II. And this kind of music and dance was invented by black performers. So, no, it's not particularly historically accurate.

  • @HermioneLMS

TheMrGothics if no people of color auditioned it's because the production team called for only white people, no other reason. Hundreds of people attend calls for Broadway shows. They are not all white.
