Regular Car Reviews: 2004 Acura RSX

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's not a Civic, except when it is, which isn't often (but sometimes).

If you get one, make sure it's a Type-S. It feels like it just barely has enough power, so I can't even imagine how slow the base model is. Throw a few bolt-ons in it to up the power a bit and you have yourself a nice little daily driver that averages 33 MPG if you don't drive like a jackass.

Japan got 220 hp and is still the fastest stock naturally-aspirated front-drive car in the world, and it went out of production a decade ago. If you're in the USA and need the fastest naturally-aspirated front--drive car you can get, buy a 05-06 RSX Type-S with the K20Z1 which replaced the 02-04 K20A2. Well the 06+ Civic Si might be faster, I'm not sure.

This and The Scion tC are both excellent cars in their stock configuration that make enough power, get good fuel economy, look decent, and are as practical as you can make a coupe. They last as long as you need them to if you take good care of them and are generally looked down upon for being front wheel drive and not making a million horsepower. If you are kind of a car guy but also want to do other things with your life, these two cars are the most perfect option I can bestow.

Casey Wise This Video is all too accurate cause I too own a 2002 RSX Type S as my first car. I wanted a cheap rwd platform but my parents were not convinced. Enter my RSX which in reality is an amazing car. Looking back I’m glad I got it. Maybe when I have money I’ll actually invest in a 240 or 350z. For now I can save and drive a reliable, fuel efficient, and fun car.

  • 5 жыл бұрын

+Sean Pittacora.. Im not really sure why people are so hyped on RWD.. For me, I love the challenge of FWD and I love the acceleration of AWD.. Built NA and boosted Honda's are just so much damn fun.. They hold power so well and are cheap and reliable.. My S13 was a money pit. Yeah its cool to do some drifting here and there, but they are shitty daily drivers and are terrible in bad weather. I drive my 240whp NA Type S all year round and I can have a blast in it at all times. Nothing like revving the shit out of an NA K-series..

@@hunteraltman4762 .. dont get me wrong, I like drifting, but yeah, there is no way in hell im buying an s13 to daily lol. They are terrible daily cars. Honda's give you the best of both worlds. Cheap, reliable, easy to build, hold power, and are driveable in bad weather like snow and rain. My s13 got me stranded multiple times in the snow. Its not as bad as a mustang, but its still RWD and they suck in bad weather.

Thank you so much for finally doing my car. I've got the 2003 RSX-S, so peppier motor with 200HP and a 6 speed manual, but everything you said applies. It's just a normal car that goes and promises a little, and delivers that little. Maybe a little more, but it's in that group of knowing what it is, and not trying to be anything more. I'm the original owner for all 13 years and 191,000 miles. Original clutch still working great. Original serpentine belt, looks fine. Original air filter, still clean. But I have decided to just not ever use 3rd gear because it grinds about 1/4 of the time I pick it. I also don't use 5th gear or the clutch to disengage to neutral most of the time, so maybe that's why my clutch is still good. It eats battery terminals though. I'm on my 4th. My A/C system is finally needing attention, but beyond that, I've replaced a window motor, a clutch master/slave cylinder and an A/C compressor. And that's it. Oh, and the CD changer stopped changing, so new head unit. I'm planning to just drive it until the engine explodes, but that's unlikely to ever happen, because this is the only car I've ever heard of that can operate without oil. Yea. I've run it pretty much dry of oil (about 1 quart remaining) twice, and once for about 400 miles, and it's still happy to go on 1200 mile weekends. It doesn't so much have an oil leak (says my garage floor) but the oil just seems to go somewhere after several thousand miles. No bluish smoke either. Probably the same phenomenon of where socks go from the dryer. I love the car. But it's not exactly exciting. It'll go, but it doesn't feel like it likes to. Plus, if I drive smart, I get 29-32 city and 34-35mpg on the highway. That's pretty impressive for a 13 year old car that was only ever rated to get 29 on the highway when new. I also really appreciated your miata reviews. I owned a 1995 several years back and regret selling it in 2010 every day. So much so that I have an order on the new 2016 that's supposed to be in my garage in about 3 weeks. If you're still in the Florida area any time in later October, you're welcome to do a Regular review of the new Miata. I mean, MX-5. They've finally done away with that fruity name.

Surprisingly fast for its time too. As for the fogged headlights, it was a constant battle in these. They would fog up insanely fast.

I love this review and totally agree. It is one of the few daily drivers that come straight from the factory that is already fun at base model trim. I used to drive an 03 RSX base with 5 spd and it revved happily whenever you wanted to and was comfortable and refined enough for daily driving. That leather wrapped steering wheel is by far my most favorite OEM steering wheels ever made.

Life is short, why waste any time in traffic I don't need to? Let's say speeding saves me even 5 minutes per day. Times 365 days = 30 hours of time wasted in 1 year. Multiply that by 20 years and that's 608 hours, or TWENTY FIVE FULL DAYS spent sitting behind some assclown that should have never been issued a drivers license in the first place. Thanks but no thanks. I think it's very ironic that slow drivers see us as dangerous because I find slow drivers far more dangerous. They hold up traffic and never stop smoothly. I love being forced to go 50 in a 55, then get the infamous 1 mile away braking, then the inevitable creeping stop at the red light. We stop, then they move up five feet, then we stop and they move up another 5 feet, and this just goes on and on. I go fast but at least I'm predictable - I never hold up traffic and I always come to a stop once and in the right spot.
