Refining and Pouring Over 10oz. of Pure Gold/The Making of a Lithic Collection From Start to Finish!

Ойын-сауық

I filtered through apx. fifty hours of content, and then crushed it into an hour. I started with a customer's scrap gold. A collection he gathered over many years! I melted and inquarted the scrap into an alloy, and then began the refining process. I left out a lot of details, but we still get a decent look at many of the various processes. Once I had pure gold, I separated it up into batches and one by one created each piece. This new collection has at least one piece of every series I'm running currently, apart from the 5oz and 10 oz gold bars.
Refining precious metals is a challenging but exhilarating process. It's also very dangerous! Please do not attempt any of these experiments without fully grasping the fundamental knowledge it requires. Your safety is paramount, and without the proper safety equipment and instruction... you could cause yourself, someone else, and/or the environment great harm. Remember, this stuff wants to kill you. I want you to be safe!!

It just dawned on me that I could store a jar of that granulated gold right in my kitchen on the counter and no one would have a clue what it is.... probably the easiest way to store gold. Folks would walk right buy it and think its like cocoa or cornmeal or something. Well maybe not in your house, but in my house. ha... Great video as always.

Hey Jeff, Great job. You've become Rob Ross of refining gold. I have a question. Why do you need to alloy gold with silver to remove the silver and other metals out of the gold again? Why can't you just start refining process and get other metals removed from gold without alloying with silver in the first place?

First, let me say I absolutely love your work. You have elevated the creation of gold bars to something between a craft and an art. At some point, I would love to commission one of your bars. Second, a minor question: Why do you refer to silver, when combined with gold, as a "base metal." I thought "base metal" referred to an inexpensive metal, such as copper, tin, zinc, or lead, and not a precious metal, such as platinum, gold, or silver. Am I misunderstanding something?
