Re-Refining E-Waste Gold

Ойын-сауық

A customer sent in apx. 150 lbs. of e-scrap to a refiner who specializes in recovering the precious metals within. Then he sent the recovered gold to Lithic Metals to refine the material to .999 fine. Afterwards the gold was used to create a small collection of Lithic pieces.

    The first time, I had over 10oz of gold in solution I suddenly found myself a bit panicky when my mind wandered to the thought of the beaker breaking. "What am I doing?!"... 😆

    @@LithicMetals I’d be afraid of it ending up the most expensive carpet stain in history. I suppose with enough chemistry and ingenuity you could always get it back but I can’t imagine trying to refine your carpet, padding, subfloor and drywall to get your gold back.

    10:00 Hello. Thanks for the video, very interesting. I have a question. I noticed that you don't neutralize the nitric acid before adding SMB. How does SMB precipitate gold if there are acids, aqua regia? 😊Thanks in advance🙂

  • @LithicMetals

    @LithicMetals

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi! I'm generally very careful to only add just enough nitric to get the job done. Then to make sure, I usually evaporate the AR down a bit to burn any excess free nitrates off. Then rehydrate.

    Also, how do you dispose of the waste as I would imagine it’s highly corrosive, so you can’t just pour it down the drain.

  • @LithicMetals

    Glad you enjoy them. I'm not sure what you are referring to in regards to "measurements"... if you mean what size bars I pour, it's currently 1/2oz, 1oz, 2oz, 5oz, and 10oz gold bars. I process the waste solutions in batches. I drop all the copper and traces of precious metals with iron. Then, adjust the ph until it is rendered inert. Then, it can be safely disposed of. Thanks for watching! 😁

    Amonia rinse? Never heard about, what is it good for? Understand HCl, water, I have seen H2SO4 boils, but not amonia. Just curious question.... could form amonium chloride... but why? Surprising was the collor of the second refining liquid. looked the same as the first pass. Isnt some colloidal gold still in it? does not show on SnCl2 test. No idea, how to get it, to be honest. Or some junk from tap water? Here we have iron, mangan an all kind of minerals as my town is known for mineral water... And that was some very impressive gold powder... Great looking gold... Greetings from the Heart of Europe

    In short, the ammonia cleans the precipitated gold extremely well. Scrubs the remaining traces of solution off of the precipitate. I use filtered tap water mostly for diluting the AR. After that I generally go back to distilled.
