Reductions in English: Understanding a fast-talking American
Hi everyone 👋🏼,
In today’s lesson I cover “reductions”, phrases that are commonly shortened to sound like one word in English. It is hard to avoid hearing reductions in everyday conversation and it is good to become familiar with the most common. In this video I cover examples of reductions such as “I’m gonna”, “I wanna”, & “howyadoin”. I hope that this video helps! Please subscribe if you enjoyed this video and want to see others. Suggestions for future videos are always welcome. Thank you for watching!

We need more bro 😊
Captain English, I liked much this lesson!
Thank you very much. For me learning real english is like learning two languages at the same time !!
Your explanation about English reductions is so good, clearly and engaging. Many people in the US tend to speak so quickly and that's pretty normal but the main problem begins with having conversations with native English speakers for the first time. Many natives would have a hard time when speaking with non-native speakers because as a foreigner, I would never understand the strange way how most of them talk in informal situations. I could grasp what you were saying perfectly well after learning English for almost six years. Spoken English is actually very fast but I can understand many Americans, Canadians and Brits in formal settings and we should remember that English is a highly idiomatic language. Thanks a lot after all, that was very kind of you.

What Reduce city and can and don’t want to?
We want like these videos
Can you make more videos about reductions?
thx
you said many people use a lot of reductions all the time but would they be giving a bad impression if they used them in a formal setting like for instance talking with a potential employer?

I personally try to be as articulate as possible in professional settings or when I am meeting someone for the first time. I would say for a potential employer you should definitely try to speak as clearly as possible. Thank you for watching the video!!
Is the same for text messages?
you're so amazing

@@captainingles798 you're so late
How and why native English speakers use incomplete sentences to ask questions? For exemple, they say, "The lesson?", "The point?"
Whats the difference these questions: "have you eaten yet?" Or "did you eat yet?" Like you Said.
High
Nothing I can't do you asked me
I'mna eat pizza tonight.
North Americans disturb their own language 😂
