English Conversation: Are YOU Using Contractions and Reductions Correctly?
I made a FREE guide for you on all the sounds in American English!: rachelsenglish.com/cheat-sheet
English conversation is different from written English, and I can show you how to master it! When we’re speaking English we use contractions and reductions to gain a smooth pattern and fast pace. I’ll show you how these two elements work together to make English conversation sound natural and comfortable. By using reductions and contractions when speaking English the texture of the language shifts. In this video I’ll show you a comparison of natural- and not-natural spoken English so that you can see and hear the differences! If you’re an English student seeking help with English conversation this video will really help you. Speaking English like a native speaker takes some practice and training, but don’t worry!...I’ve got your back. I’ll help you master contractions and reductions and you’ll be sounding more like a native speaker in no time. I’ll teach you how to make your spoken English sound natural and smooth and provide you with lots of opportunities to practice.

It's been many many years I learnt English, its not until i come to know Reduction skill in spoken English I hardly understand any movie or serial what's the characters talking about. No teacher ever taught us
thanks for sharing those tips with us Rachel . thuth to be told i have a lot of time watching your videos on KZread , i didn't know the importance of reduction in English , i my country i used to speak accurate English . On JUly i moved to another country , i wanted to work and applied for some companies , i've been rejected so so many times . after 1 month watching your videos on KZread laugh laugh good news , i got hired in two companies at the same time cause my English has improve a lot . now i wan to go in depth with you by join your academy . Rachel , you're a gift coming from the heaven . I love you !
I love these videos. As a native English speaker, they really make me realize why understanding conversational speaking in other languages is so hard for me to learn. I've studied several languages, and I get to a certain level and then progress slows way down because my ear is not used to the way natives speak. The shortening of words, swallowing letters, combining words, etc. It takes a lot of exposure to this kind of speaking to actually progress to a high level of fluency. When I hear certain languages, I find it hard to hear the separation of words. It often sounds like mumbling, and that's because my ears are not accustomed to it. For native speakers, your brain pieces fragments of words that are not pronounced clearly into what they are supposed to be and you just naturally understand. This is a hurdle non-natives just can't easily get past.

I was a journalist from 1982-2017. At one of my gigs as an editor for five weekly community newspapers, my boss would not permit any contractions in any of our 24 papers. Of course, the reporters would sometimes forget and use contractions, so I had to change them all in their articles in addition to my regular editing. What's strange is that I wrote and edited for many other much more complex publications where contractions were perfectly fine.
