Reducing High Phosphates in My 200 Gallon Reef Tank- 2 1/2 Years of Lessons to Get to This Point

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I have battled high phosphates in my tank for years and have been unsuccessful…..until now. I finally did a wholistic approach to my tank and said I’m going to solve this issue. It has been a long time coming but I’ve learned lessons in the way.
Hopefully you will learn what I have learned on this journey.

Great video and advice on phosphate E. I was dosing it directly to the display the few times I did use it. I will now use it in the external overflow 😎🤟🏾

Glad I could help! It definitely is much safer to do it that way since it will go into the socks and then be skimmed out.

I too am am also dealing with high phosphates. I'm dosing waste away bacteria and running my skimmer on a cycle. I realized it's going to take time to get them down. Great video

it’s very easy to get rid of cyano. no chemicals needed. take a sand/gravel vac, place the other end into your filter sock, roller etc. be careful when using phosphate e-. i suggest you drip it into filter sock or even into the skimmer outlet. that product is quite strong. and you need to use one step each week. don’t throw it all in there. sometimes it may even take more than weeks depending upon your tank volume. 0.17 isn’t bad at all. it’s manageable.

Thanks for the tip! I manually siphon out as much cyano as I can during water changes and blow it off the rocks to get into the overflow. I put phosphate e in the overflow so it goes through the filter sucks and skimmer and never in the tank. Before this video my phosphates were at 0.3 which is way too high for me. I wanna be below 0.1 I can already see a difference in my corals now that my phosphate is at a better range.

@@shallowreefing i learned the cyano siphon technique from the guys at mack’s dino group. it worked quite well. that way you maintain similar water parameters while removing the bacteria straight into mechanical filtration. it’s gone within a day or 2

I get this lowering phosphate approach is fine if u have acros but even adding that phosphateE It’s still a bandaid. Still something else causing your phosphate levels. Either way lanthanum works but does have its drawbacks. What I found that’s helps is 3things : Algae scrubber Decent skimmer More frequent water changes I have a few videos of my 1+ year system on my account. When I checked phosphates the other day, they were pushing .4 (not .04) , please observe my acros as they are all happy and colourful with no STN. I think the whole phosphate thing is highly debatable.

Bacteria is also important as they consume phosphates and feeds the corals.

@@jbreefer148 💯 Fauna Marin has played right into peoples struggles with phosphates, nitrates, supplemental bacterias, dinoflagellates, etc etc. I think when u put in dry rock you are destined to get Dino’s , some to a higher extent, others less. The best thing is to get over the 9 month mark, and add coral! The coral eat the nutrients. Also u get different diversity by adding different frags.

U gonna luv Phosguard. 1 cup = 150 gals. Once a week or more. Put it inna mesh bag in a reaction chamber. Say goodbye to your filter socks and get a Red Sea Roller Mat. You'll wunder why you waited so long ! Phosguard and 11oz Chemi Pure Blue fit nicely in the Roller Mat's slide out basket ! You have a 1st Class tank. Don't sweat the small stuff ! 😂😂🎉❤
