This is perfect for me. I've kept fish all my life (I'm now 70) but I've never had a saltwater set up. I'm going to start with something along the lines of what you're doing. I don't want to spend a fortune, but it's got to be right. Thank you for all the information, I look forward to following your journey.

It’s really fun with a saltwateraquarium! It is a lot more expensive than freshwater but I try to keep it as cheap as I can but still get the most important stuff like the lighting of good quality. I will go more into what method I am going for and all different additives and more in upcoming videos aswell. Thank you very much and I’m glad you like the video 😊

A hex makes a great reef tank. I have a 42 hex, I built an internal overflow wet dry that puts the water level at 18" (42 hex is pretty deep) I can put the light right on the glass and still have some spread before the waters surface. I have an 8" wood canopy that hangs down just past the water line so you can't even tell there's 6" of empty tank. And a single light provides great lighting for the hex shape. I'd like to get a bigger hex or a 24''x24'' cube. Your tank looks great...!

Thanks! Agreed, a hextank is perfect, the only downside I found is that it can be a challenge to fit all the equipment. I try to keep it simple, but there are still a couple of stuuf, like the hang on filter and the skimmer that takes up quite alot of space. The skimmer is way overkill though, at least now when it´s new, but still want to have it and I run it for a couple of hours now and then when there is actually some organics to remove. Not optimal, but so far no corals seem to care the slightest when I run it. I´ve read that it can be bad becouse of the added extra co2, but this seems to have minimal effect.

@@MNAquariums Right, My hex is large enough that I was able to build the internal wet/dry 4''x8'', it holds a LOT of media, so much that nitrates are 0 all the time... I even took a 1/3 of the media out just trying to get a nitrate reading, (0 nitrate isn't ideal) But still 0, I only have 4 corals and a Yellow Watchman Goby/Pistol Shrimp pair, and no overfeeding. If you got an oversized canister filter instead of the hang on, you could probably not use the protein skimmer. Protein skimmers work great, but they strip everything from the water bad and good... I subscribed and will watch your journey. Best of luck brother. (I have a few videos posted)

My goal is close to 0 nitrates. Going for that ultra low nutrients probiotic method. Will keep the skimmer in and run it for about 1,5 hours every or every other day just to make sure I keep organics low. Will talk more about the method I’m going for in a future video. Cheers!

You can do a simple saltwater tank without needing all the "gadgets". It's not that difficult, it just requires regular care and maintenance... There's a lot of information out to help you. If you love it, it's very rewarding..! But if you just love the idea of it... it may not work out to good for you. You really have to enjoy doing the water changes and cleaning maintenance that NEEDS to be done on a regular basis. But do LOTS of research and learn all you can about "Easy" level reef tank and what type of life to keep so you don't waste money on fish/coral that require a higher standard of reef keeping... It's not that hard, you just have to be diligent about doing the upkeep. Best of luck to you if you decide to do it...!
