Hello again my friend. I was very lucky on this day, with the weather, an actual parking spot (like gold dust at this location) and the most important of all... the Kites turned up. The red kite is the most beautiful bird of prey of all, my favorite. I like to watch them often. Once I saw about 30 red kites circling over a farmhouse, which was very impressive. They are wonderful aerial acrobats, unique. Thank you for sharing. 👍

I agree with you that they are indeed a stunning bird of prey and I only wish I could see them closer to home, as opposed to around a 100 miles journey... but well worth it for the fabulous day(s) I had at this location. Wow! seeing 30 at once must have been amazing! I am considering going to the farm in Wales where they feed them and I would hope to see 30 or so myself. I was very impressed with their skills and how they use their tail as a rudder and effortlessley glide silently, surprising their prey. Hi Anita, I hope you are well my dear friend. I was pretty lucky on this day that the Kites showed every half an hour or so and there was rarely nothing nice to see. It is funny as I was stood behind the only tree and as I was filming the Kite, there was a Goldcrest hopping all around and up and down the ivy covered tree trunk. That was until I stopped filming the Kites and it took off at the same time, lol. It is right up there with one of my best days out last season. Hi Gijs, they are a bird i have only seen twice within 50 miles of my home, so I rarely see them. I wasn't aware they had these in flight acrobatic skills until the day I captured the scenes on film either, so I was very happy and it is always great to learn new things. It seems like I saw that kind of animal in the movie but I really like how you manage to film than kind of flying animal straight! Indeed their acrobatic skills are truly wonderful and to be honest, I wasn't aware they could tumble and swoop as shown in the video, something I have not seen in other videos I have watched. BTW my friend, as I know you visit Marton Mere, i can tell you an Otter has appeared and I saw it last week and it has been seen a few times by others too. Marsh harriers have been visiting regular too and it is a great photo opportunity as you don't often get so close to them. I hope you have some luck and a great time, when you are next out in Nature my friend and thank you as always. 👍◕‿◕

Quite amazing!! Never heard of this and certainly never seen it it Jane. Stunning capture. I had no idea that these birds caught prey in the air although it seems absurd to think that they wouldn’t. It’s always fascinated me how Red Kites will normally eat Worms and bugs and only sometimes eat other prey. A big Bird of Prey that acts like a Corvid has always interested me as to why. It could have been displaying as other Kites around. And I saw what I thought must have been a Hen Harrier. Was going to ask then read the description Amazing footage as always. Love it.

Hi Dave and Sue... you guys have been on so many trailvan adventures I see you making videos several times a week! I'm glad you found time to watch this and I'm pleased to be the one who shows it you for the first time. We hardly ever hear of any sighting in Lancashire, so I went to Yorkshire to film these and what a wonderful day I had there... I have been back a few times but nothing matched this 14 hour day. I was there from around 7.30am until after 10pm and didn't get home until after 1am, totally shattered, lol. And how many Beetles and Worms would it take to satisfy one of these huge birds of prey, I wonder? I agree with you that it was displaying and perhaps showing off his hunting skills to attract a mate. 2 other Kites appeared to show interest in this guy after the 'show' he put on. I'm guessing it was a male, as they are almost impossible to tell which is which... they say 'without a blood test'!!! There is also a Hen Harrier appears on the moorside in the background for a few seconds. On this same day and location, I filmed a 'Little Owl' and Tawny Owl... what a day huh. Hello my friend, I hope you are well. I find it easier to follow the bigger birds, especially when gliding along. Other than that it is often hard when you are zoomed as close as you can. I was thrilled with what I managed to capture and I am not often so pleased with my own footage, but usually think others do very well. I used 2 different tracks of music and stitched them as one and they turned out well. thank you as always for your positive comments and support. 👍◕‿◕

@@WildlifeBirdsUK Yes, you did a very high quality job. Often, when you photograph birds in flight, focus is lost due to the difference in the distance to the lens.

Hello dear Jane, as You know I am very familiar with the Black Kites we have here and I was very curious about this video! How beautiful the Red Kite (that I saw in Italy just a few times) is! I have had many chances to observe the slightly smaller Black Kites but I can tell You that they are easy to spot but is is difficult to film interesting scenes and You did it greatly! I am used seeing those movements but in my case the Kite was catching Dragonflies and/or Cicadas. I have never seen one catching a small Bird in flight. Your main scene looks very interesting and shows how interesting is Nature when we take some time to observe it! Have a great week dear Jane and thank You for Your wonderful comments! ^ ^

Hello Andrea, I hope everyone is well and life is good at your end, my dear friend. For me to be able to put such a video together, usually means a full season (or more) of building up short scenes, perhaps filmed over many different days. But most of the better scenes were all filmed in a single day, which was amazing! I have not seen a Red Kite since last July (ish) but I am so looking forward to returning to this location, as there are other nice birds around there too. I do love your Black Kite videos, especially the slow motion scenes.... are Cicadas those amazingly noisy Beetles? I came across these in Spain but each time I got closer to them, they went silent and disappeared lol. Thank you as always for watching and for your thoughtful comments Andrea. It was only when I was last on your channel that I noticed all the 'shorts' videos you have.... I do not get notifications for those and nobody gets them for my shorts either. I was disappointed with the views from the shorts and it seems like a waste of time but if you have a short scene that can't really be made into a full video, then it is better to make the short, I suppose. Anyway, I will have a watch of another of your videos now and I will get through them all soon my dear and much valued friend. *Big hugs*

Maybe it had a bellyful of earthworms and was playing with the bird like cats do with mice. Great footage of the bird in flight. You followed it really well👍

Hello there, indeed you could be right. When the kites were just gliding they were easy to follow, but they do make unexpected twists and turns and i try to anticipate which way it will go.... then lose it lol. But not always. Hi Rosco, I hope you are well and things are all good. Yes, the location is great for birding and especially for birds of prey on the edge of the moorland. Having said that, I have been there and seen next to nothing with no B.O.P. I have had 3 good days to one ok day there, but each time I have truly enjoyed being there. There's hardly ever a sighting in Lancashire, so it was a 2 1/2 hour drive to Yorkshire, close to Leeds. I'm sure they will spread out more yet, as they seem to be down South, as well as in Scotland. I absolutely loved watching them for several hours one day, as it was all new to me and I love to learn of bird behaviours and how they hunt their prey etc. I am very busy as always and am working through the various pains, but am doing well at the moment and making progress. @@UKSTAGROSCO Warmth? what is that' lol. Still no carpets down and now 2 doors are off downstairs and the fire is broke, plus radiators off the walls... so it is bloody freezing and we are using electric blow heaters which cost a lot to run but they are on around 15 hours a day or we will freeze, lol. You may be right with the Red Kites, as Lancashire has so many suitable places for them. 👍◕‿◕

Wow, I've never seen a red kite bird before; it's absolutely magnificent! The way it glides through the air is so graceful. Nice capture at 4:50. I guess that's the way they practice their catching skills 🤷. I'm always amazed at how well you manage to capture flying birds, keeping them in focus and in the frame! Like 19. Cheers 👍

Hello my friend, it is a huge thrill for me to see these fabulous raptors as I do not see them within 50 miles of my home and for these it was over 100 miles and a 2 1/2 hour drive. But as you see, it is easily worth the journey to hopefully see gthese birds. Keeping the birds in frame is tricky, depending on the speed, size and agility of the bird... with a bigger bird often the easiest. Most of the time, these Kites were fairly easy to film, but you have to be in the right place at the right time and tucked behind a tree or wall etc so as not to continually catch the eye of the raptor, which could spook it away. I found practcing filming Gulls in flight really does help to develop your skills and you can never get enough practice. Thank you as always my friend. 👍◕‿◕

@@hungrybirds_aus lol, I think you would be better with a palm held camcorder. I used one for the first couple of years on this channel and still use it occasionally. They are not too expensive either and on eBay probably less than £100 GBP. And you just pop it in your pocket and nobody knows you have a camera with you. 👍◕‿◕
