    Davey it took me forever to get this timed just right , it is 8 clicks , you have a good ear. Sounds really good now and I finally got my strings down by moving my truss rod a little each day and letting the neck rest overnight. I couldn't bring myself to shim the neck and I thought about it a long time but separating the neck from the body freaked me out.

    "Flea exposed!!!" Should be the title of your video. Or "It's takes a guy from Cambridge to decipher Flea"s bass moves".

  • @bryanallenguitar6714

    @bryanallenguitar6714

    7 жыл бұрын

    David Krueg um no. "flea"s playing is ANYTHING but technical. he is probably the most overrated musician of my generation. i *like the music* he composes. and some of it has become wildly popular. but a great *musician* that does not make. trust me, you walk by someone on the street each day that is a better musician than Flea. and HE WOULD BE THE FIRST ONE TO TELL YOU THAT. His popularity is on his knack for coming up with simple but catchy bass parts which frusciante then composed simple but groovy tunes around. and Flea also takes a *punk* attitude and applies it using some tools used by funk players. However, he has BAD technique (again, ive heard HIM say that even in an instructional video). So he is not "technically" good at all.

  • @bryanallenguitar6714

    @bryanallenguitar6714

    7 жыл бұрын

    all that said, i do want to make it clear that ive been a fan of the Peppers since the late 80's and i think theyve made some really groovy records. I do enjoy the style of Mike B (flea)... but that doesnt make him a great *musician* just because he comes up with groovy stuff. Hell, Lennon came up with groovy shit and he couldn't play his way out of a paper bag. I evem like Kurt Cobains vibe and he is the worst "famous" musician you could ever imagine. Being a great "musician" is something entirely different from any of that. It doesn't mean i dont like their vibe, or their groove, or their tunes. But put any of the aforementioned players out of their comfort zone and they would never distinguish themselves. They aren't going to wow anyone with technical ability.

  • @xerospacious4024

    You try playing this then, it may not be technicaly advanced but it certainly is difficult.

    I have both a music degree and a journalism degree. I play bass and guitar, and I have photographed Flea as recently as Bonnaroo 2017 and I have seen the band live 4 times. Your statements about Flea and John Frusciante's parts being "Simple" and "Not Technical" are absolutely ridiculous. Maybe they aren't wildly difficult and nearly impossible to play like Steve Vai or Victor Wooten. But being able to jack off arpeggios, indulgent solos, and complex key changes all over the crowd doesn't make the music more enjoyable either - it just displays virtuosity. Flea and John Frusciante's parts are actually quite difficult to replicate accurately in spite of technique, and yet they make those intermediate to hard musical lines look ridiculously easy onstage. Also, they improvise extensively live and many of the riffs become more complex as a result. Only a guitar teacher who is miffed that they aren't famous even though they spent 5 years learning how to play Joe Satriani's latest song from memory would think this band's musical lines are "simple" and "not technical" lololol

  • @timothyborland4847

    @timothyborland4847

    7 жыл бұрын

    Kurt Cobain is the first musician who you have mentioned who actually has "simple" parts. Even John Lennon's parts, while not virtuoso material, are not easy

    If I play this riff on a guitar I would change it slightly. Play mutes wherever you like, they will have more body/thickness on the lower strings, also depends how good your picking is. I presumer you're using a pick and not slapping the guitar?

I have one question if you don't mind answering. when I'm slapping down and plucking I hit my bass with the nail of my index finger, making a rather load noise. Is his something that I should try and avoid doing or does it not really matter if i have my bass plugged into an amp. Thanks again for the great lesson.
