The Oscars used to be so classy!
This was Lucille Ball’s last public appearance. She would be gone in just a few weeks after this ceremony. Her gown looked wonderful on her, such a shame there aren’t “stars” like her anymore. She’ll make the world laugh forever.
It sounds like a Disney parade is about to start 😂

A time when movies were still good and the Oscars still glamorous ⭐
WHERE IS RIVER PHOENIX... 🙆🏼♀️
Everything had so much quality in those days. People cars clothes energy and family standards. Just so much quality and I hate how it went away so fast. The last of the truly glamorous and individuality. At least up into the 90’s.
@CosmosZeroX

family standards? cars? I agree that the 90s had much more quality but not because of family standards but because back then movies and music was 100x better than nowadays. Better movies, scripts, actors etc. and the same for music. It's sad how things have become....The 90s were the best decade in humankind history for sure, 90s and then 80s.

For some things yes, not for a lot of things though. Today we are able to easily know what goes on in the world more. Back then there was a lot of racism, misogyny, bigotry, abuse, hidden horrors, etc. that Hollywood and the world hid and lived in denial about. Music was definitely better with much more real talent. As for families, today’s are better because more are aware of the physical and mental health effects for their children, but still an issue and always will be. Today we are more aware and educated about a lot. But social media can overwhelm many and cause health problems alone. So lots of good and bad back then and today. I think the nostalgia of youthful fun times back then plays on lots of people’s minds too and rightfully so if it brings good positive things to mind. ❤

So sad to see such stars as Lucille Ball, Robin Williams, Gregory Hines. And others who are gone RIP
This was the Oscars with that VERY infamous Rob Lowe/Snow White opening, the first to implement the phrase "And the Oscar goes to...", and also the first with Jeff Margolis as director (a role he kept for seven more years). And your announcer? The late, great Charlie O'Donnell!!!
"One man, NO baby....Tom Selleck" 😂😂😂 lol

Everybody looked so stunning that night, both actors and actresses around that time! 😎
Notice how no one else is introduced as a “legend” except for Lucille Ball. She was one of the most powerful people in Hollywood until she died one month after this took place. And she still looks gorgeous at 77 years old. That’s a real star ⭐️👍🏻

When class was a must in the red carpet...
Tom Selleck was one handsome stud.
Jesus that first minute makes the late 80's sound like a hundred years ago.
Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith were indeed quite the "best friends"... They (re)married 2 months later, in June. Dakota being born on October that same year, Griffith is likely to have been 2-3 months pregnant when this was shot, i.e. in March.
PLEASE, ACADEMY , POST THE OLD 1950´S AND 1960´S COMPLETE CEREMONIES YOU STILL HAVEN´T POSTED. THANK YOU VERY MUCH
2:06 Despite never marrying, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are one of the longest-standing couples in Hollywood and have been together since 1983. 👏🙏 It's their 40-year anniversary this year!!💗

3:28 I do miss when the Oscars of old were held at the beautiful Shrine Auditorium. The legendary Lucille Ball in her very last public appearance, the following month passed away due to heart complications.
I never knew until I finally saw it: Merv Griffin performed "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" during the infamous Rob Lowe/Snow White opening. Bet you anything the appearance of this song in The Lion King was no accident.

@@MilesCraft1 you had to choose the worst list, Hemsworth? Holland? Seriously? Some of the ones you mention are from the 80s, and the others have one or another remarkable work, nothing more, today they are more famous for personal drama, for being of a race, gender, etc., than for true talent. It's not that the 80s were perfect but it wasn't all controlled by identity politics and political messages
Fantasticoooooooooo! Hollywood I love you!
Sound like SALE OF THE CENTURY lol
When you see Lucille Ball it really brings home to you the difference between a star and a celebrity. Lucy literally shines in an aura of her own. Once upon a time we had stars, people with the 'it' factor, these days we just have celebrities, manufactured by the industry, they just don't have that buzz about them.

Lucille Ball was in over 60 movies before going on radio 2/12 years with My Favorite Husband which then let to the 1951 classic tv show I Love Lucy (1951) followed up with 3 more Lucy shows. Always a wonder and a pleasure to see. I do love Lucy and will forever. Thanks for all the laughter!

The First time when the Oscars on ABC had no host, all thanks to producer Allan Carr. Plus, Mel Gibson did not host the Oscars, for the first time.
25 years is hard on people, even if they are rich enough to have all the work done. Most of those folks look way different now.
I love how it's all actors. No celebrities, influencers, tik tok stars. During this time it was just talented respected actors. Once they started inviting the likes of Kardashians into this, it dimmed the elegance of the Oscars.
according to Gene Siskel, he'd never seen a bigger reaction for any star ever than with the people there - media, fans, cameras, interviewers - all waiting over 15 minutes after everybody already went in for Tom Cruise to arrive. the way he's barely mentioned here speaks volumes, i think, about the amount of bias there was at the time towards huge stars like him. he's barely mentioned! even though _everybody_ waited for him to arrive. no wonder he didn't win. the Academy hated him. probably still do. didn't even give DiCaprio an Oscar™ until _The Revenant,_ for a performance he didn't deserve it for. The Oscars™ have been - and always will be - _hilariously_ behind the times. Martin Scorsese was only reluctantly handed an Oscar™ over *35 years* after knocking out masterpiece after masterpiece. he deserved Best Director™ for _Hugo,_ too. never MIND _Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver,_ etc.

Agreed.. How he was never nominated for rainman actually is mind blowing. Between top gun and rainman he made huge amount of money for Hollywood.. . I still think they saw him just as another pretty boy.

LOL, who are you talking about? They still have 20-30 years ahead of them.
Yes. They have the Red Carpet opening and the introduction by Ton Selleck but the infamous opening number with Rob Lowe (and Alice Faye, Vincent Price, Cyd Charisse, Dorothy Lamour etc.) is absent. If I'm not mistaken one of the 'requirements' of the Disney settlement was that it never be shown again. A pity. It really wasn't all that bad.
