Thanks guys! Not from Chicago, but you're pretty close (can't tell you HOW close without doxxing myself) The hip has gotten worse-ish, now I have random sharp pains and random tingling, so I think I'm gonna go back to the doctor, and also ask my higher belts which P.T. they recommend. Thanks so much!

😂 had a big boy drop his shoulder into the ribs. Sensei (from Brazil, 5th degree black belt) said, "cartilage dislocated, take a week off"

Regarding the advice about seeing a surgeon, I definitely agree you should be hesitant about that. I injured my elbow in a fast arm bar and the injury plagued me for years to the point that I could hardly use the arm. Physical therapy didn't help. They couldn't find the problem. One specialist said to wait until it filled with arthritis and then they'd be able to see where the problem is. Another said he could open it up and scope it. Finally I went to see a chiropractor and he tested it in a could of directions and just popped it back into place. It came out right away but after a month or two of frequent visits it stayed in place and I have no problem with it now.

Hey guys. I know there’s a chance you won’t see this as it’s on KZread but I thought I’d give it a shot anyway. I’m 35 with 3 kids. I have full time job and manage to train 5x a week. I have recently competed in an in-house tournament and made it to semi finals. This is after 4 months of training. I’d like to compete more and at least make it to the podium in local comps, however I have issues changing my entire lifestyle in an instant. I’ve never worked out, eaten healthy, taken supplements, etc. it’s difficult for me to make all these changes and to be honest I don’t even want to make certain changes. I guess the question is.. if I’m looking to compete locally and achieve a podium finish, is it realistic to have that expectation by putting in the hard work but not going to the extremes like strict diet, proteins, sodium, etc. I love bjj but I just don’t have the will to change everything about my life for it. I’m trying to construct this message without sounding ignorant. I just spent my entire life eating junk food, not drinking enough water, or taking supplements, not working out,.. then I go to bjj and perform better than some guys who’ve been there for 2 years. What is your opinion on the absolute need of supplements or is it just something we can skip and not stress about. I feel strong and healthy, my endurance is there and my mental state is fine.

had a similar rib issue i believe, took 2 months off - went back full on and popped the same area in a week back. took another 2/3 months off and came back. Now i’ve been back 6 weeks and rolling full on with 0 issues but i do have some form of anxiety and try avoid anything that may hurt it in rolling such as driving into someone’s knee shield or playing half guard knee shield on my left side. hope old mate can come back asap but you just gotta take the time off - i plan on training for as long as i can so what’s 6 months out of a 20 year span ✌🏼

40 y.o. blue belt here (Philadelphia, Pa) want to weigh in on the first caller... I shattered my pelvis 15 years ago and have nagging pain in both hips. It has kept me off the mats, occasionally. YOGA. If I miss 2 weeks worth of yoga, I pay for it in jiu-jitsu. Try it out.

If anything hurts at all I just don't train. I had a kid step on my toe last Thursday and I just took off until Tuesday.
