I totally agree with you. Back when I was addicted to oxy and morphine sulphate pills are 60 mg of oxy a day ( more if I could pick the lock of my husband's safe, which I did all the time and he would have to replace it.. Almost ruined our marriage) and 80 mg of morphine sulphate...I ran out often before the next refill and the withdrawals were pure hell. Even though it's been 12 years since those days I still remember the withdrawals very vividly. I got clean with the help of suboxone. I'm down to a 1/4 a pill a day from 3 8mg pills a day. Never ever will I go back to my old life.

I feel like they are often dehumanized and by watching your videos you can see a pattern of unstable family structures and behaviors during adolescent or formative periods of their life has given them little to no chance at the outset to be programmed to succeed in modern society. Brilliant work. Am definitely a fan. One thing to see pictures of downtown LA...another thing to experience the faces and sights and smells of this unfortunate catastrophe unfolding as humanity slips into a void with little to no help. He’s so intent on being able to say he came off “cold turkey” and needing to justify that he’s using subs for pain in his prosthetic knee, back, metal in his jaw... ITS OK, you’ve made a first step regardless, all good however you’re getting to sobriety. Mark wasn’t minimizing his act of sobriety either, simply trying to sort out all the facts.

Great point! But straight up, as you may know it's one hell of an accomplishment to come off dope especially Fent without any help/meds to help you along. As he said, a great reminder of why you never wanna go through it again, right¿. Cold turkey will be at the forefront of your head forever and a day. Fuck Done and fuck Subs long term. But hey, if they're needed and keep one off the shite, so be it.

@@1luckystrike Yes, exactly! Coming off opioids in ANY capacity is an achievement. Coming off cold turkey is considered by most to be even more of an accomplishment because of the struggle mentally, emotionally and physically which is why most want to have the title of “Cold Turkey” which is what he originally stated but once Mark clarified he didn’t actually quit cold Turkey. He stopped using opiates and began taking subs as soon as withdrawals kicked in to assist him in his detox, which is great, there’s no shame in that at all!

Mark's not a racist or an exploitative person - he may have removed a couple of my comments when I post before I think and say something stupid but overall I think he should be the World's next living Saint. What he's doing for humanity in one of the armpits of the Earth is way more than any suburbanite outreach program or anything. I bet his donations to keep people clothed, fed, maybe a phone - hell even money for drugs if it'll stop them from harming themselves or others - for the year 2020 was probably more than any bigbox company claims they give to charities when you buy an extra box of cereal. Love this channel and always the first video I watch every morning when I wake up.

Yes! Doctors in recovery have retrained in a different specialty, not involving opioid prescription. I wish that option was open to people not previously in the field. Even better, I’d love to see the US expunge more nonviolent crimes after rehabilitation. Or, at least, expand the use of drug courts to non first-time offenders, and without automatic incarceration for struggling. (If drug court is successfully completed, there is no criminal record for that charge). I was very fortunate to have a treatment counselor who didn’t report positive tests to probation every time. If you stayed in the program, she gave many people another chance (taking the charge into consideration…if you were in for reckless driving or vehicular homicide or a violent offense, no).@@nurseanastasialiberty

Damian- you my brother have far more figured out than most. You are a teacher amongst students. You WILL accomplish great things my man. Taking your struggles and offering them up to the masses will certainly guide someone in a different direction. Even if only one listens you will have not lived in vain. March on soldier. You havent lost faith in humantity quite the contrary i feel you could help restore it. It takes all of us to collectively make this happen...im on your team brother.

I haven’t watched any of Damian’s other interviews, just this clean & sober one. But it’s quite beautiful to see a person turn away from using in a place where most take the road of least resistance-even the cops who watched him get robbed. The longer you stay sober after living thru the slavery of addiction, the more wisdom that follows, and with that, the burden of sadness that comes from seeing how many people waste their lives-not just on dope but on other material & temporary pleasures.

I think more than half the battle is getting off street drugs, the lifestyle and the endless dirge of maintaining addiction. Damian's pointed himself in the right direction. His comment about having all the time on his hands reminded me of early sobriety. I went from being either drunk, hungover or getting drunk... to owning a business in Manhatten three years later. Ironically, I was seriously injured 20 years ago and have had chronic pain ever since. Among the treatments were fentanyl patches, which were honestly a living hell. It quelled the pain, but I could barely function. Even after finally finding the right medications, the transition from one to the other was horrible as well. Along with the stigma of using pain meds generally. By staying titrated you avoid the "high", and keep the pain moderated so you can function normally. It's a fine line between dependence to live, and addiction with all that represents. I knew exactly where my life would go if I crossed that line. I hope for the best for (you) Damian, just remember which side of that line you want to stand on.

So glad I randomly discovered this channel. As a person who has never struggled with addiction I had no clue what it was like. Now, after watching many of these addiction stories, I have come to realize that but Gods grace on me, I could have been in the same situation. I feel like this channel is giving me more compassion for those poor souls struggling with addiction. If you read the comments Damian, Good on you Brother. Stay strong and just remember you are worth it. God Bless!

Thanks for your compassion! I’m glad Mark does this, to increase empathy and awareness. It’s very hard to understand addiction, if you haven’t been through it! I hope this kind of education becomes more widespread, as well as the scientific findings. ❤️
