Lol I was just thinking the same thing
My neighbor in my old neighborhood had a Lotus just like this only it was silver and black. They are cool cars but I have an aversion to any European car. I am a Chevrolet - GMC guy. I am so stoked that you listened about sanding on fiberglass with a respirator. Dust masks just don't cut it, and fiberglass fibers are just as bad as asbestos fibrils but they are not regulated. You guys do great work! I never want to see anyone who worked hard all their life suffer because of not taking safety precautions. My dad flew airplanes for over 30 years. He wound up almost deaf from the loud engine roar. They did not use headphones in the old days. God Bless and Merry Christmas to you and your families!!!
Neat watching the time-lapse repair.
The Lotuses have very specific jacking points and differ depending on the application. You really need to look this up as you can damage the chassis or have a big accident in the garage if you do it wrong. Do not lift the car using the jacking points which are infront of the rear wheels, you must use the ones behind the engine (under the diffusor). There is a big risk of it falling off the lift as 60% of the weight is at the rear! The jacking points at the rear side are for a trolley jack and will lift the whole side of the car up.
Glad the inertia switch was the fix. I mentioned that was probably the problem when I watched the 1st video.
The best part It's Ivan's favorite color

Oh ya
Great job Ivan and something different 👍👍👍😎
awesome little pocket rocket
Ivan is like a kid at Christmas! Oh boy I can’t wait to drive it! Great progress on this project! Thanks for sharing your videos!
Ivan, as Jinan0014 correctly commented, there is an exact method to fixing the damage which involves grinding a “V” of the correct depth and width in the crack and filling with successively larger pieces of fiberglass of the correct weave and type, using the correct resin to work well with the stuff that Lotus uses…otherwise the cracks will come back big time and ruin your paint and primer, or even worse cause a safety issue at speed. A little online research will give you details on how to do it right and what materials to use, or a good fiberglass supplier will be able to point you in the right direction. Don’t mean to be negative at all, it’s going to be a cool, fun, car…but I’ve been bitten by repairs done incorrectly on fiberglass boats, cars and airplanes over the years…and the end result is not pretty.

you need in behind those cracks alright and layer up. Its strong now but once you sand it back flush there will be nothing really left to add strength. you can only do this from the back. It will defo crack again otherwise. dont be shy on the back either. lash it on there
That's a fun looking car, looking forward to the finished project!
Should gravel where you wash your cars, ends up dirtying the shop. Keep up the good work👍
you can't just overlay ....the cracks ...you must "v" out the cracks...and also try to get in behind the cracks....to apply the mat and then, uee the resin.....otherwise, they repairs you are making...will crack again....not if...it is only WHEN
Ivan you do very nice work for sure,
I’m still laughing, Ivan says, ‘this is my car and I can’t wait to drive it. I probably won’t let Micheal drive it’! Just like brothers, lol

For sure
Awesome to see you working with your mask while sanding the fibreglass bit eye protection my friend only one set of eyes
Good Job Ivan,.. yes you are "itching" to get 'er done..Merry Christmas and a great/successful new year!
Cool little car
Hello from Siesta Key Florida
I hope you figured this out already, but you can remove the front and rear clsmshells in just a couple hours. That would allow you access to all those cracks from both sides. It will also help if you need to replace the radiator or oil coolers in tbe front. You will also then be able to see both subframes and most of the tub to check for damage.
Being the self proclaimed fiberglass expert that I am I’m glad to see you using the cloth and resin verses that stupid kitty litter crapola. Keep up the good work.
getting better BUT you need safety glasses when grinding fiberglass. Cheers
Ivan I was itching and remembering the Corvettes we used to work on when I was a young man! However your Lotus is cool and I think you will enjoy it! I am looking forward to seeing you get it back on the road!
Glad the engine fired up once you found the switch! All that protection film was a bit of a pain to remove, don't think I would put that back on personally. Coming on well though Ivan and please leave Micheal alone, we love him.Merry Christmas Brothers. 🙏👍👍
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO NIKO BROTHERS FROM NORWAY ... 😊👍🏻 Nice car i like the yellow ... Michell. Norway .
Ivan that was Funny Mikey to big to fit in the Lotus......😹
You're a great body man Ivan.
LOVE the original Lotus yellow, personally I would not change it, and I would go with originality. The Exige is a fabulous sports car, I've watched them on the track numerous times and they are a joy to see them in action. I can only imagine how fun they are to drive.
Safety glasses, don't leave home without them!
Great videos, I really enjoy watching watching them. I am no expert when it comes to bodywork, but I think it is a good idea to drill a small hole at the end of the crack to prevent future spread and then apply your fiberglass. Again, I am no expert, I am a licensed Refrigeration Mechanic that grew up loving cars and dirt bikes, and have worked on a few cars mechanically and body work. I am more of a Ferrari guy, but it is a good find you have there and will be a nice car when completed. Toronto, Canada
I agree, don't let Michael drive it! Haha! You will have a blast driving this car and low cost every day driver for sure. Looking fwd to seeing your lotus flower all spruced up!
I always wanted to buy a damaged Lotus but i was nervous about the fiberglass clam shell. This video released all doubt i had about the fiberglass work. Can't wait till the next video
I really enjoyed your video and good work on the Exige. one comment to make is when you had the car up on the 2 post lift it appears you lifted it with the rear jacking point, with the weight in the back this can cause the car to fall off the lift backwards. there are designated lifting points which require the rear underbody panel to be removed and its more rear/center of the point you are using to lift the car.
You guys do great work. Keep it up
This Lotus is a nice car, is not so bad, needs a little bit of love and some fiberglass job,, some suspention parts, the engine runs pretty well, new wheels and tires.
Love these cars... Can't wait to see what it looks like when you guys get done with it!!
Great work guys! 👍🇬🇧
Use lot's of baby powder on your body. Helps keep the fiberglass from sticking to you.
Love your enthusiasm Ivan, good to have one you really like. I saw a list of 15 cars they’re stopping production of in 2023 3 of them your familiar with lotus, challenger and Camaro. Thanks John from Arizona
Great progress I was happy to hear it start up and running it sounded pretty sweet!
Awesome repair,
Love the work
Love you guys!! Love the brotherly jabs, you guys are such nice people. Love my hat BTW, I have it on all the time!
I really like this project
Guys nice job. Nice Car. Still like the white corvette better, but that's me. The car needs a lot of TLC, and I'm glad to see you guys are willing to give this car just what it needs. Alot of TLC. 😊😊😊😊😊😊 Can't wait to see it done.
Cool cars. Fun on a road course.
Привет смотрю вас из России вы лучшие механики.
Keep up the good work guys love the car
Love it
allways wanted one cool car for sure!
Dude you got the skills that is one sweet Lotus better than a Winnebago any day
Nice subscribed. I did mine a few years ago and still love it. Be careful of small cracks in the gelcoat very hard to see until they flux and crack your paint 6 months down the line.
OK so listen up if you have all of the pieces to rebuild the light on the Lotus do so it will save you a lot of time and money because you can put the light back together with a plastic welder and with JB Weld clear apoxy To seal it shut and make it Waterproof it should be a simple repair and it will be way cheaper
I would paint the rivets or screws on the vents from chrome to black, to me it would make the car look more uniform. With the chrome on black looks like it was jus thrown on.
Cool👍👍
you should use epoxy resin for repairs to fiberglass it has a much stronger bond . Insurance will only cover repairs on fiberglass boat and cars if epoxy is used in the repair in Canada. love the car.
Great job Ivan, agree with you Michael is to tall don't let him drive the car. Great video !! love the channel. Take care thanks 😊
You should Aston Martin
Such a cool build - these are soooo rare - it's gonna be a head turner when it's done. I would seriously consider keeping it racing yellow - maybe with twin white stripes tip to tail. "It's too small for Michael!" lol.
Looking forward to seeing her rip!!! Dig the channel.....
great job so far boys lookimg good really how could some1 do that beautiful car theyu must have been mad atleast its in good hands now
Good looking car, love it in yellow! Not a real supercar though it looks the part. Prob really fun to drive, Lotus has always been known for their light, nimble cars with awesome handling!
Good job niko brothers. I'm from senegal
This will be a beautiful car when it’s all done ❤
In the UK the lotus is one of the most fun cars you can have with with your clothes 😎❤️👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
You can sort it out buddy. Good luck with the rest of it.
Good work. What about the roof misalignment? Is the frame tweaked??

It was in hooked there
What about the latest RV they you brought in with all the front-end damage? You guys seem to jump from one project to another without finishing the first one.
Get r done.
If you're going to repaint the whole car, a phoenix yellow will do. There's a lot of body work to do.
Great job, when I have done any fibreglass repair if there's a crack I will drill a hole at the ends to stop the crack spreading. Worth putting a couple of layers behind the repair if you can get to it, bumpers etc. Good luck mate.
@rickgalla3377

Agree with you, always drill hole to stop spread, and try hard to repair inside and outside for strength

@@rickgalla3377 Thanks man!
you can make bog by mixing fiberglass resin with ordinary talcum powder,
Fun to watch keep up the good work guys.
You need a good content car like a restoration job an old 60s or 70 muscle car would be cool something that you could get a lot of days content on instead of the quickies I know they're not quickies but you know what I mean
When deal with fiberglass dust from a grinder it goes everywhere in that car. Tape off the inside. I have rigged enough boats in my thirty years. That stuff gets into everything and a pain to clean out of ever
Out of all super cars, LOTUS is most reliable cause based on TOYOTA Camry or Corolla Mix platform the best in car business. Believe me once you’re done with this one keep it inside in few years triple it’s value. Please pay full attention detail to restore it. Good luck
a friend had an older version of yours and rolled it over, not sure how but it rolled and the body was a write off. they're a great little sports car to drive, good on fuel too. i like what you're doing with it, you'll love it.
i didnt like the car at first but its growing on me
Great VLOG! How do you sell the cars you repair?
Creo que lo compraron muy caro !!!
👏👏👍👍👊👊🏆🏆🙏🙏🙏🙏
It will be too late by the time you read this but try wearing the white zip up suit to keep the dust off you. Looking forward to the mechanical repairs and alignment process.
If the external panels are cracked, I'll bet there are cracks on the panel mounts and insides of the panels.
Is that SMC specific resin?
You should be able to remove the clamshells easy for better repairs Also the Exige should have a supercharged motor I would be very surprised if it’s not got one
@nedsgarage
Жыл бұрын
They make non supercharged Exige, the factory supercharged ones are exige S and i dont think they were available here until 2007. they have an intercooler that is connected to the hood scoop. the one in the video is a N/A exige.

@@nedsgarage I’m k in Australia they are supercharged The Elise s is too Obviously you guys only got the series 2 lotus as series 1 was Europe uk Africa Asia Australia (some were made in Malaysia) with the rover engine Good clips your doing keep up the work you’ll have a ball with this little rocket
Do you ever research what type of accident the cars have been in or talk to the former owner?
that film saved that car from a lot more damage bet they dont put it back on I install it on all my vehicles but it still sounds like a fart can
When doing Fibre Glass please use a disposable suit and Mask if not for your health but for your kids they would like to see you get old not dead with fibre dust in your lungs. lol great Vlog :)
I am VERY surprised that Copart left the plate on unless it’s your dealer plate.

Should of covered the interior from the fiberglass dust particles , Sorry , from Arm Chair Mechanic 🙃
You should have been using a hot air gun to take off thr protective wrap?
Did you notice that the Targa Top has a big gap at the rear on the passengers side? Is it not latched properly or damage from accident?
@smileyspeedster
Жыл бұрын
The hardtop is bolted onto the rollbar cover/rollbar. Some numpty with a forklift probably tried to lift the car via the roof. Hardtop needs to come off to inspect the damage (4 bolts). Then it's either a repair, or a new roof.

It was unlatched
I know one thing I'm not going to be watching that house build I'm not into that I am happy for you that you got a nice deal and admire your ambition to redo that but boring
Someone spend a lot of money on it 2 pice rotos, coil overs nice buy.
New slogan for T-Shirts "Lets quit talking and get to work". I wish a lot more youtubers would adhere to to that slogan. Maybe their projects would not take as long, if they would stop yacking and actually do some work..
Great job men
