    I hope this artificial director's cut hype scheme isn't a trend that catches on, Apple TV is doing the same thing with Napoleon. I agree, it's seems that studios have appropriated the "other-cut" physical media marketing scheme to their digital streaming networks. The gimmick is contrived and manipulative - a total turn-off.

    Oh yeah, slowly building up the lore, it is big and even the PG-13 rate doesn't make it less griddy and I love it. It is an entire universe in set-up, not a standalone movie, full characters development would be a 10 hours movie, but building them slowly with some flashbacks time by time is a way to not bore us to deaths.

    My biggest flaw with this movie was how carelessly they flaunted their rebellion-- let's just talk in full volume about this and expect no repercussions. Add to that how half the characters signed up for the fight without even a conversation or any sort of subtle teasing through dialogue to see if they'd be interested. Like "hey wanna take down these baddies?" "Sure, but let me do this boss fight first." No teasing out the mission and seeing if they bite, no "I hate them but don't want to fight" -- only djimon honsu had any sort of meaningful pushback but then he did absolutely nothing after

    I would say most of the places they visited was the outer realm of the Mother world, where they were far away from the central government. There is not much rulership of the Mother World there. The evidence is that you do not see any sign of Mother World solider or administrative organization nor policemen. Area like this usually do not really being loyal to the Mother world.

IMO, other movies which ripped off Seven Samurai, like Magnificent Seven (both the original and the remake), managed to do it better than this movie IMO. Even if he also had to cram in a whole universe, that's still on Snyder for taking that on, and failing (in many people's opinions, not all). Rebel Moon would have been better suited for a 6-8 episode season. I can see the world building potential that would work if it was done slowly with more detail. Seven Samurai. A Bug’s Life is Pixar’s take on Seven Samurai, just like Rebel Moon is Snyder’s take on Seven Samurai (or on The Last Starfighter, which itself is also a scifi take on Seven Samurai).

  • @markmillonas1896

    @markmillonas1896

    4 ай бұрын

    @@mabusestestamentYes. This is quite literally a Seven Samurai remake in a sci-fi setting. The Star Wars and many of their rip-offs are just homage level, but this is an overt remake of Seven Samurai, down to both the exact number of, and many of the individual characteristics of the space samurai. And even the “space bandits want the villagers’ grain and are coming back after the harvest to take it” plot line. That’s pretty much why dividing this in the middle doesn’t work. The most important part of the Kurosawa film was the slow exploration of the samurais reasons for helping the villagers and their back stories. They set this up but then cut off right before things start to pay off. At the very least the company that virtually invented the binge drop should have dropped both parts at once. If they somehow managed to get the character backstories and payoff into the second half people might be a bit more forgiving about the shallowness of the first half. But knowing Snyder he probably would ruin it anyway with voiceovers.

    I really liked it. Knowing that the movie was manipulated to capitalize on double dipping aspects just makes it obvious once again that studio greed is a great story killer. Instead of making commitments to a complete story arc, they tell only a small part and wait to see if they get enough viewership to warrant continuing the story. So they ignore the fact that some people won't invest their limited free time and money when there is no guarantee that they will ever get a satisfying ending.

    It almost lost me in the first scene with a vag shaped warp hole with a phallic shape coming through it, and again with the extended hug scene shortly after. Besides that and the gratuitous slo-mo riddled throughout the movie, it would have done better to focus on the villains a bit more than making the film a mini anthology hero collect-a-thon. The movie was almost good, I'd say 2.4 out of 5 stars.

Either build up that she’s gotten softer after being off world with Gunnar or show Kai manipulating her with some sob story. lol the 2h15m movie felt rushed

    Watched Rebel Moon last night. Genuinely love the idea, characters and where it’s going. Sadly some shoddy writing and plot development along with an unexplained loss of characters that would have been pivotal for the film so far. It’s passable but I am disappointed with a film that could have been much isn’t. Lastly, which idiot thought it was a good idea to have Charlie sport an Irish accent? At a couple of times in the film there was some shonky CGI. I hope Netflix isn’t trying to pull a fast one by making folks deliberately wait for the actual Synder cut.

    With that production value would have worked as a kick ass series, one episode each to introduce each character properly. Bring the team together. Have the end fight and then a prologue set up for season 2. Probably would have been epic! As it is, I had no idea what was going and didn’t care about any of the characters when they were captured or died. I actually laughed when it ended. Then watched (fast forwarded) thru 11 minutes of credits to see if there was an end scene. And there wasn’t. So I laughed again.
