    Reason and Reaper are the only DAWs out of the dozens I've been through that I find straightforward and whose layouts are nonconvoluted and sensible enough for me to be able to use them second-naturedly without having to babysit a DAW rather than being free to mainly keep my mind on doing tracks.

    Tio be completely honest, all that was demonstrated is all posible in old classic reason devices, this is basically a more modern approach of how we use to do things back when reason was a simple rack, in order to achieve some of this results you have to do some wiring experimentation and some CV as well, but for me the sweeper tends to do be more experimental and more flexible than the new flanger quarted witch is nice that they included a frecuency especific section.

    Good video. In my opinion, Reason would be way better if it included stuff like limiters, better maximizers, direction mixers, multi-band compressors, sub-bass effects, etc. Logic is way better for mixing and mastering. It has a lot of stuff that you don’t get in Reason. However, these past two years .... it’s incredible how much I’ve been getting inspired to make beats in Reason. I’ve been using Reason since version 2.5, and I’ve made hundreds of beats over the years. I was nearly going to stop using Reason when I was using Reason 9, but when 10 was released I was very inspired to carry on making beats. I wasn’t that impressed with the new features in Reason 11 though as in DAWs like Logic Pro, all of that stuff could be done since Logic Pro 7 ... hell even in versions before that. Reason still has a long way to surpass Logic and Pro Tools. I prefer using Reason for making beats ... and Logic for recording, mixing and mastering.

  • @PaulOrtiz

    Thanks! Whatever workflow works for you is the right one. I know people who write in one DAW and mix in Reason, or vice versa. I don't think the intention is ever to match the likes of Logic any more than Logic has any intention of matching Reason. Just different tools I guess. That said I hear you on the built in multi-band compressor! Obviously you can build, or buy one. But it'd be nice if there was a dedicated device. With ya on that one :)

    I totally respect your opinion. Your videos are excellent. I'm just confused how Reason could be your favorite sequencer. The rack? Awesome. Mixer? It's good to great. The sequencer and overall DAW features seem pretty far behind options like Cubase, S1, Logic, Live, etc.

  • @PaulOrtiz

    @PaulOrtiz

    4 жыл бұрын

    I think it depends what I’m writing. If I’m using CV sequencers, Players, pattern devices and lots of automation the integration with the sequencer is just so fluid and easy (Reason’s automation is so much better than Cubase with clip behaviour and static values). There are some things where obviously Cubase is a more sensible option (if I need things like expression maps for example). I’d say the main things I *need* in Reason’s sequencer are folder tracks and MIDI note chase/preview on nudge. Honestly that’d be all I’d need. I don’t do a lot of audio editing. And Players fill in a lot of the gaps like auto theory, step recording, etc. Hope this explains it a little better! But totally agree there’s room for improvement :)

  • @2chrisward

    @2chrisward

    @@PaulOrtiz That does explain, thanks. There isn't something that has Reason's weird mix of CV, interesting rack extensions, and the players.
