Realistic expectations from an entry level firewood processor

Ойын-сауық

I’ve sent hundreds of cords through this little machine, I’m still thrilled with it. I have a few more little upgrades planned though. Stay tuned.

Hi Jeff!!😀😀 Have you possibly considered using a dremel to sharpen your chain with? They work really well and you can do both sides at the same time. Also when your wood is dirty. Try to make sure the dirty side is toward the saw so you aren't pulling the dirt through the cut. The chain will stay sharp so much longer. Have you tried cutting more than one small piece at a time before you run the splitter? It should push 4 pieces through at a time with no problem. I always like watching your processor at work. If I were to get a entry level processor. I would like to have one that the in feed belt goes all the way to the saw so I wouldn't have to push the last couple blocks through by hand. Take care my friend!!😀😀👍👍💚 Logger Al

Hi Al, I always appreciate your input! I’ve got a dremel but not a battery operated one- it’s about 400ft from my shop. I try to watch where the dirt is and if I can rotate the log without hurting myself- i do, sometimes. I bought the rest of the hydraulic I feed last week for my machine- it’s supposed to be here today- but I’ve not got a lot of faith in tracking numbers or their accuracy. I often cut all 6 pieces from an 8’ log and let the splitter push them through in one push if they’re small, the splitter wont activate unless the saw bar is fully home. Thanks again for watching Al, I sure appreciate you! Jeff

Couldn't you just use the next log to push the first forward so you don't have to push by hand? Also a cordless Dremel is pretty cheap I'd say it's worth it

In your experience, what size logs would work best with both the 4-way and 6-way wedges to make campfire/fireplace sized firewood without resplitting?

Ideally, I like to see 10-12” straight hardwood- oak- maple- ash rot run through this machine with the 6 way knife. Any bigger than that sometimes need to re-split the larger pieces. The 4 way is good for up to about 8”. That said, I run 90% of all the logs through the 6 way for a good variety of wood sizes.

When you slice a big pizza in 6 slices the pieces are big- when you slice a small pizza in 6 slices- the pieces are smaller… same applies to firewood! My commercial processor has an 8 way wedge- it’s a little better. A 12 way would be perfect

Looking at the Ecopro 300. California wood here. I have outlets for firewood/campfires and have outlets for around 6 cords a day (seasonally) for oak. Lots of bigger oak, come my way. Possibky get a wood splitter with a table and a conveyor, or can this company accomodate me?

There’ll be no possibility of doing 6 cords a day with the Ecopro300… my best day ever was 4 and that was with perfect wood. Plan on 6 face cords- that’s realistic- I suggest a bigger machine for that volume. My other processor is capable of producing 2 cords an hour in ideal wood.

Do you service campfire wood customers? Campfire and fireplace wood burners are my customers, curious as to how you do resplits to service those customers when handling bigger logs. Or do the wedges you have combined with the size logs you get eliminate resplitting? If you have the log lift instead, any thoughts on how to set up a set of bolt-on wheels to move it from row to row of logs?

I sell softwood in 1.25 cubic foot bags at a local rental/hardware store for campfires, it’s a good fit for them too they sell a lot of propane and we have a few beautiful provincial parks. It took a while to get the word out, but we see a steady increase in sales week over week. The logs I use are scraps from my sawmill business- so they’re small to begin with- plus I don’t use my processor for them, just a chainsaw and a split fire splitter. I thought about the log lifter but I decided to do with the live deck instead- but I have a decent little tractor to move the logs. If I had to put a mobile one together- I’d use a simple axle at one end and buy a trailer dolly for the other end to move the lifter frame to my next log pile. An hour with a welder and some scrap metal would be all you’d need. Thanks for watching! Blessings, Jeff.

Not really, just assemble it with as much care as you can- most of the issues are quality control- and just like any other Chinese made equipment- the end user is responsible for that.
