This is actually an "hungarian-style shield", not a Captain America (rotella) shield :) But still, it's arm strapped. It's supposed to be used as a side-arm.

I believe a more accurate test would be using 2 of these Shield/Gauntlets. In addition, the shields could transform into larger European kite/Heater shields

Looks better for use in a brawl and less in a fight with other weapons. As another said, you needed a weapon in your other hand.

Ypu guys should test out a sword and buckler combo against some sword ootion. Maybe even a jian or dao, or a nodachi.

It's about the shape of a dog trainer's bite shield, so it could be used against animal bites. Or zombies. Not so much swords, unless you at least have a weapon in the other hand.

Seems like it would be really handy for someone who practices panantukan, a variant of unarmed Filipino martial arts already uses the arms as shields against attacks in a way that would be very conducive to the size and shape of this shield.

This is not Caps normal shield. His normal shield is about three ft in diameter and all but indestructible. As others have stated, this type of shield is best used with another weapon in the other hand.

If it's a shield, it's not meant to be used alone. Shield on left hand, short weapon in the right hand, vs 2 handed shinaï would make more sense. I'm having doubts on the spiky racks though. They make this unsafe for sparing. When you spar with shield, you often end up in wrestling distance, which gives you advantage because your weapons are shorter. I don't want to wrestle with these nasty spikes raking my friends' skin off.

It's not weak but because you are not Capt. America.

That is not Captain Americans shield however it's a good shield

Ehh....probably gonna be a few that say this...but you're using it wrong. First, having just a shield, yeah you're gonna lose unless you just tackle and duff. You need to use it in conjuncture with other weapons; either a one hander to actively open up the opponent and attack with the sword, or a two hander and treat the shield as an extended gauntlet. Second, you actively need to meet the opponent's sword and parry it, use the shield to open their stance and get inside for an attack. Backing off with a shield is the last thing you want to do; It's meant to foil an attack and allow you to close distance, not create more.

I think this weapon is meant to work more like the wrapped hand in the African martial arts, Dambe. I think it's meant to be more offensive. Used to defend only a bit.

Seems like an active parry type of weapon. I.e. you have to block AND advance at the same time as your opponents strike. That sounds extremely hard, impractical, and dangerous, But MAN would it look cool 😅

Distant is issue. The shield holder dun know why he hold the shield for, keep run away or closer to. Not just stanting

Interesting. It's too bad you only have one. It might work better with two, like the Thai weapons called "mae sawks." It would be even better if you used it in the left hand, with a sword in the right, similar to "Hungarian shields."

I feel like it'd benefit from having a weapon in the other hand. You know... kinda like Sword & Buckler.

How would it be combined with a blade? A sword and buckler (tiny shield) was considered a very effective combination in the west.

I think you would have to look at African martial arts like Dambe to understand how this shield is to be used. I don't think it's meant to be a defensive weapon or at least only marginally.

You should practice some triangle footworks from FMA

A good way to use a shield against a knife attack is to use it to cover your torso vitals, while the other hand deflects. HEMA has techniques with the buckler fart out from the body, but if you're not trained, your wrist may get slashed, so if you're not trained with shield, dont use shield like objects as a buckler Also there's a reason why viking round shields and bucklers exist and why they are different

A buckler is similar in area, but oriented 90 degrees offset to enable you to block incoming thrusts at range. Attach it to the forearm and it would be equally useless
