Real Men Are… Integrated (C.S. Lewis vs. Relativism)

Ойын-сауық

"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful."
These strong words came from C.S. Lewis in what would become his acclaimed work The Abolition of Man. Today, Bobby Angel uses C.S. Lewis' thoughts as a springboard to combat relativism, identify some of the issues modernity is assailing us with, and point us in the direction of true integration.

This video is so timely. The modern time is so confused, and failed to grasp that certain characteristics and virtues cannot be divorced from traditional values, which are mourned upon nowadays as "old-fashioned".

I just read this book last year in my political philosophy class and I enjoyed it a lot. It's not an easy book to read. Even though the text is big and there's not a lot on the pages, its thick with thought provoking ideas; you really have to dissect what he says in some parts. Such a good book!! Thanks for making this video!

Such a beautiful book; I especially appreciated his contrast of education as either the propagation of humanity or the propagandizing (and and thereby death) of it. One could take the ideas of this book and begin to understand the feeling of unhappiness and un-ease stemming from so much of humanity (perhaps even the majority) being held captive for generations on end; enslaved by the ideas of so few... not even subject to their own bad ideas.

A truly interesting video and presentation of a what I humbly try to live, not a great scholar or religious theologian, but read and listen. I don't understand the self validating faith stance people are rallying behind to justify acceptance. This is disturbing, not right or wrong, but what "i" believe to be justified based on "my" political belief aside from blatant moral egregious actions. But I will continue a walk of faith and action that quietly affirm a faith in Jesus, not a faith in my opinion. Battles may be won by the bravado of power, but wars/world's are survived by the humble warriors who give not for themselves, rather a quiet belief and faith for all.

I don't know much about C. S. Lewis. I didn't know he went atheist for a time in his life. It intrigues me when people can go from Christian to atheist. I got duped into protestantism for a time before I got Sober, but I can't understand existence coming from nothing.

CS Lewis was an extraordinary man, but it’s important to mention he wasn’t a Catholic so as not to scandalize the faithful. I haven’t watched the whole video yet, so maybe you did say that. Just wanted to put this comment here in case anyone saw that and was wondering.

In 1978, I didn't try to introduce a young Jewish man to Jesus, because the man was already full of courage and manliness, and Christian men in those days seemed to be passive, weak-kneed, pushovers who humbled themselves before the world.

Fr. Mike. Do you have a you Tube show on how to help someone who has left off going to church due to disagreements with church direction. Example the church’s support of Covid vaccine? This person is all hung up on their belief that aborted fetal tissue was used in the making of vaccines during the 70’s and stopped attending mass as a result, first due to not agreeing to attend wearing a mask and now due to this issue. The person I am asking for is my younger brother who has always been very faithful and I am worried he will loose his faith in our holy Catholic Church! Thank you. Yours in Christ, Julie.

I remain painfully and stubbornly agnostic. But no sin does surely mean no virtue and the loss of dignity to the human individual. I’m increasingly convinced though that no traditional religion/culture has THE answer. Although I confusingly mourn the decline of Christianity

The reality of man, the best Man there is is Christ Jesus our Lord and God and Savior. We have to know him and imitate him, follow his commandments of love and total obedience to God. The Holy Spirit will guide us and show us the way to himself. He doesn't leave us orphaned, as Christ has said, "Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you." (Matt 7:7)

John R.T.B . You are right . I have experienced too how Jesus is the true and real Man , who walks by yourside, who you can always trust ..He will never leave you or forsake you, like the men of the world . The men of the world are usually following after Adam and his falling. Jesus only knew to love . Mother's have stopped loving Jesus , therefore they fail to bring up good men in Christ .

Few if any people are actually relativists, but it sure was nice of c.s. Lewis to tackle that strawman. Between this and his trilemma, the worst and most vacuous apologetic since Pascal's wager, he was certainly on a roll.
