Ready for China: RAF joins US & Australia for largest Allied air exercise ever

The RAF has joined the US and Australia for the biggest Allied combat air exercise ever designed to ensure the forces are prepared for the threat posed by China.
Operating from Nellis Air Base in Nevada on the outskirts of Las Vegas, an RAF detachment of around 300 personnel has been honing its cutting-edge air combat skills.
Exercise Red Flag is the pre-eminent annual air combat training exercise run by the US.

China is preparing to take Taiwan thinking putin's move on Ukraine is going to keep America divided. We are almost having a repeat of history again. The past balloon spying incidents and the recent one is to try and access the over all might of America's nuclear arsenal including their precise locations. What happens if you attack nuclear silos of your enemy before they strike? You cripple them instantly before the fight begins

I cringe whenever I see in this and in similar military videos involving important US, UK, Australian or any other Western nations showing full names and faces of military personnel (e.g. pilots). Did it occur to anyone that unfriendly governments (e.g. Chinese communist party) might (and probably will) absolutely make good use of them, e.g. bribery, blackmails, even paying them to have them come over to their country to teach them experience, strategies and tactics to their own pilots? If you are tempted with an offer of $500,000 or $1,000,000 to teach for another country, staged as a vacation, who wouldn't be tempted to take such an offer? Or you find out that hackers suddenly have gotten access to your bank accounts, emails, your entire digital life and wreaked havoc during war and you are supposed to participate in an important mission, who can still perform at their 100% in the face of such devastating events in his/her personal life? Western democratic nations need to be smarter and stop being so callously transparent with government and military personnel - it is not smart at all.The communist Chinese govt would never make such foolish mistakes.

I don’t care what people might say, there’s a bond between all the countries in the anglo saxon sphere. We are allies and will continue to be so - you can see how we’re pulling together to stare down the aggressive behaviour of the Chinese - 5 Eyes, AUKUS, huge military exercises like this- not to mention the broad adoption of the F-35 gradually becoming the predominant 5th generation fighter jet in our air forces. The UK contributed 20% of the development costs and were early adopters in agreement that its availability to be bought by countries outside of our alliance impossible. I know I’m partisan due to being dual nationality (UK & US) but I couldn’t be prouder of both - long will it continue.

@@al28854 You'd be surprised at the resolution of certain defence related cameras. There's a lot of old technology that gets through the cracks and isn't seen as worth the cost to upgrade because it would sound ridiculous to justify in front of a committee investigating procurement decisions. This goes mainly for upgrades or refits to existing types of gear. You know the way some people complain about video game sequels when they say that the developer just needed to make the same rough formula but just with new engine and graphics, instead of using a new formula? Most military equipment works like that by DEFAULT. Things like missiles, tanks and even aircraft. The reason why Voyager has a decent camera is because it was essentially 'created' in 2011. The aircraft itself is an A330 which is 80-90s tech but obviously Airbus didn't make that refuel cam for the A330. The military, industry and figures usually call this practice 'buying back margin' 'designing back margin' or 'rationalising'. It's harder to do than introducing new features or capabilities to a weapon platform(which introduce weight) and it's still quite costly to do and depending on the system could involve a lot of development and testing. However, this phenomenon has gotten A LOT of attention in defence and government in the last 20 years, so now, it's becoming more and more common to see development programs have buying back margin as a primary goal. Which is great, because people underestimate how far material science has come, material science enables most of the other technological advances we make.

Deterrence is a delicate balancing act, a game of psychological warfare waged between nations. It's about creating fear in the mind of your enemy and convincing them that the consequences of attacking you outweigh the potential gains. This fear acts as a shield, protecting you from harm and ensuring peace. Sterling Hayden captured the essence of this strategy perfectly in his quote. The art of deterrence is about making your position secure so that the enemy will never even consider launching an attack. In today's world, deterrence is more important than ever, as tensions continue to rise and the threat of conflict looms large. By understanding the power of deterrence, we can protect ourselves, our families, and our nations, and ensure a more peaceful future for all.
