‘Enemies to Lovers’ in romance books should really be ‘People who aren’t super fond of each and the girl is holding a grudge about something minimal that happened years ago and actually the guy has been in love with her the whole time to lovers’.

My biggest romance book ick, specifically, is when the main problem of the book arises out of the two characters NOT COMMUNICATING. Why the hell is every romance couple out here acting 12 years old and incapable of sitting down and having adult conversations. And if that is the only way that the author can think of to cause tension... they need to go to writing school.

I just couldn't focus through the first 40 pages so I never read anything. But I have to say, an ick for me is... full on hook ups in the morning before they brush their teeth. Since I feel like sometimes we forget ourselves and end up saying things we wanted to keep only in thoughts, realizing it a moment later. But most of the time it still feels so forced haha. Just to move the plot or reveal something that was supposed to be a secret.

Ok. I totally get your point on enemies to lovers, and I think it’s been really badly done in recent romance books. HOWEVER, my all time favorite rom com, Pride and Prejudice, is definitely enemies to lovers. Sure, Darcy didn’t kill her entire family, but he did ruin the chances of her sister marrying well in a society where that essentially defined your future. Additionally, she (mistakenly) thought that he cheated her boyfriend out of an estate he supposedly inherited. And there was nothing she could do about it because of her station in life, and he taunted her for it… Yeah, I’d be pissed too.

I may get alot of hate for this but oh well I feel like it must be said: My book ick is how in romance books especially there will be a scene where a character is casually SA'ed and then it's just brushed off and never acknowledged. Ex: randomly kissing a stranger you don't know/doesn't know you or using SA as a plot point like they did in Love & Other Words w/ Elliot and that girl. Mine is a weirdly specific one, but whenever foods are used in comparison to one of the characters. Some of the worst ones were "he was so hot you could fry an egg on him" (I'm not even kidding right now, some author and editor looked at that line and saw absolutely nothing wrong with it) and the ever-popular "the mushroomed tip of his . . . I dislike how many books end in proposals or have epilogues where they get married. Not every relationship ends in marriage and not every story needs that epilogue. I don't know I get a little annoyed at it to the point where I won't read the epilogue so I won't ruin the book for myself

Everything written by Ali Hazelwood gives me the ick. Her entire writing of the character Bee from Love on the Brain? I rolled my eyes so much. Like at one point Bee got too excited and wrote something in German and “didn’t realize it.” ????? she isn’t German. English is her first language. BFFR.

9:18 honestly never thought this was possible too especially when you’re conscious and literally sober but it happened to me without realizing because there was just so much going on in my thoughts during that time and I accidentally blurted it out loud. Still so embarrassing thinking about it rn because mind you it was during a prayer while in church I’m pretty sure the ones standing next to me heard it. I don’t know how I ever recovered from that embarrassment. I never did tbh

I hate it when characters parents sell them off into marriages. For example in Neon Gods when Demeter sells Persephone to Zeus (a 60 years old man that killed his last 3 wifes) or Scarletts father in Caraval that is like "well I sold you to him so you now go to his bedroom with this men you never met before and let him r*pe you to make up for your misbehaviour". It makes me sick

Also The real people cover was certainly very normal in the early 2000s cause i loved the Gossip Girl covers but now it looks so cheesy! I loved this video! I also Crack my book spines it makes me feel more comfortable when im reading😊

Hi! I love watching: Haley Pham (and Haley Pham Vlogs) (reads similar books to Destiny, is also fun of energy and joy) www.youtube.com/@haleypham and www.youtube.com/@haleyphamvlogs Sara Carrolli (also similar video style to destiny) www.youtube.com/@SaraCarrolli *e m m i e* (reads more classics, but also romance and fantasy. Videos are slightly on the cosier side)(try her little free library videos) www.youtube.com/@emmiereads Alexandra Roselyn (reads more fantasy, check out her cosy fantasy book recommendation videos) www.youtube.com/@alexandraroselyn cari can read (reads a range of books including lots of fantasy. I like hearing different book recommendations from her)www.youtube.com/@caricanread Rachel Catherine (Australian, similar reading taste to Destiny. Also makes vlogs) www.youtube.com/@RachelCatherine

Forgot to mention: Jack Edwards (he reads quite different books to the above, more literary fiction I'd say. His videos are always funny though and it's fun hearing different perspectives on popular books) He has two channels - Jack Edwards www.youtube.com/@jack_edwards - Jack in the Books (more informal type videos) www.youtube.com/@jack_in_the_books Other honourable mentions Daniel Greene - Daniel puts out fantasy news videos, they are slightly more high / adult fantasy focused, but also very fun to watch. I found him through his paperbacks vs hardbacks video (kzread.info/dash/bejne/ia6aq9GedqrFoqw.html) and continued watching due to his bookshelf roast videos (e.g. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqR1w6pxZ9yok7Q.html) Carolyn Marie Reads - Carolyn reads slightly different books than Destiny, more classics and literary. She makes lovely relaxing videos and also sells author portraits.

okay wait here's another MAJOR book ick 4 me: when you meet a new character and the author doesnt describe what they look like and so for like 3/4 of the book, im picturing (this is totally random) a blond white guy. and then like, just out of the lue the author throws in, "even with his dark skin, even with his black bangs covering his face, i could see him blush." ........................................................................like, what? WHAT? WHATTT!!!????? and then its so hard 4 me to change the image in my head
