I have watched the show before the book (it was the show that convinced me to start the book tbh) and although I knew the ending and the story in general, I sadly ended up being disappointed by the book. It wasn't bad, but I still didn't like it either, which leaves it in this weird state where I don' have only negative thoughts about the book, but the few positives I have are overshadowed by the bad, which is all I remember. But mostly my problem was the writing style. Unfortunately the way Rooney writes is not for me, which is fine and I'm happy other people can enjoy it. I don't think I'll ever read another book by Sally Rooney but I am not opposed to watch the adaptations, if they are all as nice as I though the show was.

This's insane i am too currently reading normal people. I read conversation with friends last year and i loved it.

I've read this book this year, because I heard so many people recommending it. But I was kind of disappointed after reading it. Unlike most people, the writing style was the thing that kept me reading. I really liked it. But I think by the title, I expected the story to be more about..well, normal people...but for me the whole story somehow had this over-dramatic but precictable Hollywood vibe, and was not really relatable somehow. And I agree with you, about eating disorders being romanticised in the book. Nevertheless, I have to admit that I read this book in one day because I couldn't put it aside :D And I still want to give Conversations with friends a try, too.

Oooh I can see where you're coming from though! I interpreted the title as Sally Rooney wanting to normalise mental health issues and to really shine a light on that subject and how everyone has to deal with their own trauma/mental stuff. And it is indeed a very easy read!

It's always a struggle when there's not much plot in a book, because how do we know if we wanna read it?! 😅😂
