After 15 years of running excursions on the Reading & Northern, the time finally came for the last runs of ex-Gulf, Mobile & Northern 4-6-2 “Pacific” #425. The pride of the Reading & Northern’s passenger department was steamed up for one last round of Santa Claus Special excursions out of Reading Outer Station to Port Clinton, PA. While this isn’t exactly the end of the line for the engine’s operating career, it’s still a bit somber to see the engine for the last time for a good while. Hopefully the engine will see service again soon, while in the meantime ex-Reading T-1 4-8-4 #2102 takes over the duties that the 425 carried for all those years.
