ABOUT SIMON LAWTON
Following his own Pro Downhill mountain bike racing career, Simon Lawton (Owner and Founder) has spent the last 25 years analyzing the top riders in the world to understand the tiniest details that contribute to their greatest successes, and also any weaknesses that are holding them back. With an exceptional understanding of kinesiology, Simon has developed his own teaching curriculum that explains the incredible relationship between human and machine. He has trained top pro mountain bike racers across the world, and his foundational techniques apply equally to beginner riders. His on-bike drills allow you to break down complex skills on the bike and develop correct techniques.

ABOUT LINNEA ROOKE
Linnea has been racing locally in the pro category, but until this year she had almost no formal training and was held back by major gaps in her technique. While she was able to carry speed well on straight downhills and high-bermed turns, she lacked foundational cornering skills and was timid in the air. In Feb 2020, she met up with Fluidride to help with a filming trip in Baja, and was fascinated by Simon's teaching methods. Wanting to be part of this mission, she left her career in healthcare in July 2020 to officially join the Fluidride team as COO. We started filming this series to document her journey of cleaning up bad habits, adding new skills to her toolkit, and chasing her dream of riding with style.

This is such a great series. I really wish I had youtube when I was learning to ride! Instead we got to watch Wade and Dan kill it on video and then we would head out and crash on the trails. Filling in the gaps was...difficult.
Until now (this video) I haven't really understood or even realized the difference between drops and step downs. Thanks!
Wish we had features like this by me.. looks like so much fun. Nice work again, Linnea!

Another veeery very good one! Pointing out the difference between drop and step-down once more is really helpful. Btw. it really helps when the text is shown for as long as in this video. Editing improved!👍🏻 We can really see how you're making Linnea ride better each episode. Great!👌🏻😎🤘🏻

@@Fluidride Simon. I feel more confused than ever. I think I would have pulled back like a bunny hop for that step down. Is that similar to what you are saying? I don’t want to be caught front wheel heavy here and start diving as soon as the front comes off the wood or lose contact with the pedals by not pulling the bike back into me. ????
@hopnglo680

I think i saw you do a very slight pull back, just to keep the pedals stuck to the shoe.
@Fluidride
3 жыл бұрын
@@hopnglo680 In that instance I didn't need to pull back like a hop. I just didn't need that kind of height over and above what the terrain offered, so I just pressed straight down for distance. Had I gone in too slowly, I might have done more of a hop. I hope this makes sense. Just a straight up press through the legs. -Simon

@@Fluidride Thanks Simon! I really enjoy your videos. You have an excellent way of teaching and communicating your knowledge. I’m about where Linnea is in terms of skill, so the instruction really is helpful. Thank you!
He's like the Laird Hamilton of mountain biking. I'm sure he's heard that before.

hey Linnea, I love how your bike looks!!!.. I have the same color scheme. By the way You always improve a lot!! happy to see you doing it!!
Hey I have a tough time leaning my bike over to engage the cornering knobs of my tires. Any drills to help get me more confident doing this?
How much does your trail bike weigh?
Another great video. That park looks great, I'd love to go there one day. What is it called?. Linnea's riding's looking so smooth.

@@Fluidride Thanks. Once all this covid stuff hopefully gets sorted I'm thinking of spending maybe 5 or 6 weeks (possibly more) biking in the U.S & Canada (I'm in the UK). If so I''ll definitely be looking at having some classes. What is the best time of year re; weather? I'm guessing spring / summer.

@@Fluidride Where in the Alpes? Same place each year? I go to the Alpes 2 or 3 times a year (normally) snow boarding but never biked there yet. Again once Covid isn't an issue I plan to get to Morzine & / or Tignes with my bike 🤞.

Looking forward to the hips 😜
that little kid was funny
I just watched this video again & have a question. Re; the drop that you're treating as a step down (due to the distance required to clear to landing) Would it still be "wrong" to treat it as a drop (using hip shift rather than compression) if you had plenty of speed coming into it & so compression wasn't needed to gain the distance? Or should it always be treated as a step down & compression used?
@Fluidride
2 жыл бұрын
You could certainly do that if there was enough speed offered. This would be safe as there is no lip on the edge of the 'drop' or 'step off space'. If there were a lip, using drop technique could become dangerous as the rider would be pulled forward. Great question!!
