I used to say the same thing... 8 years ago. They're still trying to catch up to Windows XP. At this point ROS is going to be surpassed by VM emulation of x86 on a web browser.

you should better try 0.4.15 version. They have nightly builds for it. It works much better

Yeah, that auto-focus is making me have a sever case of motion sickness. For real.

I wonder if there will be a top of the greatest games of all time of the greatest games of all time.

I think the pacing was the best it's ever been, and the actual video itself would probably be my favorite video yet, but the camera zooming made it kind of hard to watch. Here are some of my _very_ minor criticisms: 1. I wish a 4:3 monitor was used for the laptop running ReactOS, or if the video was scaled up to be the correct resolution (like it was in the Windows ME video). 2. At 0:04 I would have liked to see the video thumbnail and title on the screen. I know at 0:10, the analytics were shown, but just having the thumbnail and title on the screen when you talk about a video being made 5 months ago would still be a great complement to the video, especially for people who hadn't seen the previous ReactOS video (although I did). 3. It would have been fun to see you attempt Space Cadet Pinball on this OS. I give this one an *8.5/10.* I really wish I could give it a higher ranking, but the camera zooming made it too hard to watch. Past that, I still loved the video, and it would be a *9.5/10.*

Well, in order to do that, all you'd really need is a build of Java 8 that can run on ReactOS, good enough hardware, and potentially a few functioning drivers.

Yeah, all versions that are compatible with java 8 work. But it can be a bit of a pain to setup. The version of Java 8 in the ROS application manager does not play well with minecraft. I think Java 8u48 works. But the installer does not. You need to copy the files manually. Also the official launcher does not work anymore. You need to find a third party one that works

This is like the Duke Nukem Forever of operating systems.

It's funny to see that someone has much better success in running like any Windows software using vanilla Wine back in 2005 on any Unix/Linux OS than using a system which is supposed to resemble Windows as much as possible. What I find most funny about ReactOS is if someone ask "Why not use Wine instead?" and they are like "What if you want to run device drivers, good luck doing this with Wine!". Well yeah ReactOS can't run those either. While Wine has a fully functioning operating system with device drivers underneath it. Anyhow I still admire the work and mindset behind ReactOS and always like to keep track of it and what they are doing. Their work is still incredible and how far they have actually come in all those times.

I think Peggle and PvZ failed because you were running them from the CD, so it couldn't write any files

Retry the PvZ test, but copy it to the hard drive. It might be trying to write to the cd. I haven't tried actual games on reactos, but I think that might work.

Lol pretty much sums up my experience with ReactOS over the years. But it's to be expected with the project, they have a lot of low level system calls to reverse engineer and rewrite. Tbh the fact it just crashes the app and doesn't cause a kernel panic or BSOD I see as a major win for the project and better library support will come with time

no disrespect to the devs but after watching this project for like what, 20 years? this project has just been incredibly disappointing and linux + wine/proton has surpassed it in every conceivable way

- this is due to Linux Foundation and others like Red Hat and Canonical doing lobbies and getting endorsements from various entities. Although this means it strays further from Free Software principles. - Unix-like system are preferred by FOSS communities compared to DOS-likes e.g. FreeDOS and this ReactOS

Dude, please stop to frustrate yourself, your pain is my pain! Reactos is hopeless, it is like the girl that you loves desperately but she don't consider you to exist, at her eyes you are less than "s*it of dog", less than a shadow, less than fog! you are nothing to her. The same, you are nothing to Reactos. The solution? there is no solution! you simply must accept the reality and surrender. So, focus on other hobby! chesses, bricolage, gardening, whatever. If you still want to stay in OS field, turn to something that can give you satisfaction. Forget reactos: i follow it since 0.2.8 but i got only delusions. If really you cannot stay without, at least limit the damages: just do the same trick I do. Test ONLY when a new release is pushed out, not more often: this will save your liver.

oh wow it's that time of the year that youtube decides to remind me of that failure of an OS - well alright it's cool someone did it as a hobby but that's it not much more lol.

reactos is based on linux so everything thats able to windows apps is being ran through wine is not an emulator, so any game that works on linux via wine is able to be play on reactos, reactos is buggy as hell but when it works it works decently. also the reason you cant install any drivers is due to reactos not being a very stable os. to anyone confused about why its unstable do research please, because wine is not an emulator works on linux and macos, hell for all i know it could be using freebsd instead which is what sony uses on playstation, anyways every single os isnt stable well being built and reactos is still in alpha stage, i really do recommend doing research on reactos and learn what the projects goals are, its pretty interesting and wont be ready anytime soon.

@@academytopstav ah so according to my deeper diving on the misinformed google search garbage, you are correct according to the reactos wiki its based on the windows nt architecture which i dont trust wikis, but if that part is true that explains the very unstable nature of this wonderful os.

@@Ninetails94it isn't "based on NT" it is more specifically a full rewrite of the NT kernel from clean room reverse engineering. So a new kernel made to work exactly like NT but that is not actually finished
