I just have to say that the YESSONGS Live version of this song is RIDICULOUS. The Outro Solo is EPIC. This Song will always keep you coming back.

Masterpiece #3 on the greatest album ever created or ever will be. If you want to hear a great version of this song live listen to the one from YESSONGS, it's absolutely sick!

I was fortunate (like many of you!) to have seen YES live during the Close To the Edge tour and the Tales tour. They were a remarkable band. For me Close ToThe Edge is the best rock album I have ever heard.

I had the absolute pleasure of seeing these guys in Toronto. Top notch musicians, all of them.

About the time I start thinking this one of the most guitar-driven Yes songs, I realize how deep the keyboards are and then it dawns on me that the vocal harmonies are richer here than .... what can you say? It's Yes!

Squire and Bruford lock down the groove to perfection. Squire's bass is ever present and doesn't have any "quiet" time. He was a master at experimenting with his Rickenbacker to see what sounds he could make. In any particular Yes composition listen for him changing tones or adding effects, switching pickups as the composition moved from section to section. It was brilliant.

The first Yes song I saw live on the Close to the Edge tour - I went to the concert without knowing any of their music beyond 'Your Move' that had been a single. This one song probably converted me to being a Yes fan for life - maybe not my favourite Yes song but amazing live.

The album that introduced to Yes in the 70’s and they have been with me ever since. The title track blew my mind you have to listen to it

What can I say about this band and album? Psychedelic Progressive art rock. It’s beyond description.

After a bit of Stravinsky, this is the opening track of their triple-live LP YESSONGS, and it explodes at the beginning and the end.

Wakeman frequently plays more than one keyboard at a time, standing between them, arms outstretched. One of my favorites of many awesome Wakeman quotes, and I'm really not sure he ever actually said it: Why play one keyboard when you can play eight? This was the first song I ever heard played live at my first rock concert. 1978, Wembley Arena, 17 years old. Way to set a high bar.

Dont ask Geoff Downes to do what Rick W. did...Another great reason why YES should now retire , PRONTO!!!

I recently read an interview with Eddie Offord (the second unofficial "sixth member" of Yes) that the bizarre effects in the guitar solo were gotten by swinging a microphone in a circle on the end of a cable in the studio. Some items: 1) moog --> more like "moag" Rick says it was a gift by a guy who thought it was broken because it could play only one note at a time. Rick told him that's how it was supposed to work, but the guy let him keep it anyway. 2) Mellotron is the first sampler, but analog vs digital. It used a bank of tapes, each with a recording of a single note. Pressing a key selected that tape and played it. Samples could be of anything, say, strings. In concert, it seems like Rick had a bank of Jon's voice (possibly in harmony with itself). Just a guess, though. The samples are only a few seconds long, so it takes some additional skill to play. Needless to say, it was a nightmare to maintain, especially when taking it on the road.

You haven't heard this song until you've heard it live. Yessongs.

Yup. This is one of their classic openers and it does the job each time. Wakeman on keys is definitely good, and, yes, he's often playing more than one instrument at a time. When you hear the "strings" and the "flutes" - that's the mellotron. Think of it as an analog sampler in that it has a series of magnetic tape loops of, say, a flute, with each tape being a different pitch. By pressing a key on the keyboard, the corresponding "note" is activated by pressing the looping tape onto a tape head. It's nuts! I think the real stars of this song, though, are Steve Howe on guitars, Chris Squire on bass, and Bill Buford on drums. The rhythm section is heavy, funky, and jazzy all at the same time. Squire usually used a pick when playing bass which helped with his aggressive sound. Bruford as a drummer has his roots in jazz and you can hear him drop beats, anticipate hits and play melodic passages on the toms. Freaking brilliant. As for Howe on guitar - this is where seeing a live performance will blow you away: He would have his Gibson around his neck, the electric sitar on a stand in front of him, and the pedal steel guitar on a swivel stand next to it. He will be playing the Gibson, then walk up to the electric sitar and without missing a beat wrap his arms around it and play a riff, then back away, seamlessly transitioning back to the Gibson, then in a smooth move pick up the slide and play the pedal steel sections, then back to the Gibson. Just one of the reasons Howe was voted the best all around guitarist for I believe six straight years by Guitar Player magazine (I need to check the specifics there...) So, yeah. this is a straight ahead rocking funked out piece that is a perfect ending to the Close To The Edge album that can take you on a mind bending journey if you are up for it. Not my all time favorite Yes song, but always a strong entry. oh.... and Khatru rhymes with a-choo! (like a sneeze.)

I was at the Wembley gig and I remember it like yesterday. Roundabout was off the scale brilliant.

This is one YES song that grows on you and you will likely go back to again and again. Time has been especially kind to this, like South Side of the Sky, Long Distance Runaround, Machine Messiah, and Does it Really Happen? I keep revisiting them.

Literally. Played on an instrument called a Rock-sichord. Wakeman said it was liking playing a plank with keys.

From us old folks that grew up with this music and attended at least six shows lol we would argue this was and is Prog and only Prog. From the early 80s on your guess is as good as mine, call it what you want 😂 I'd call most of it Not Good and I love Yes

Love Siberian Khatru!!! It is one of Yes Funkier song which I love!!! Love Funk music!!! Close To The Edge song is the Masterpiece song on this album "Close To The Edge." Do it!!! React to it!!! Some of your younger viewers may get tired but we old timer who been with Yes since 1968 do not tire of Yes!!! I have the vinyls of Yes particularly this album and play them regularly. And you should that your audience is 65 to 70% Baby Boomers which means we grew up with listening the 60's 70's and 80's music and send those request to you just to see your reaction.....it has been good so far. My only complaint is that while watching your reaction there are many Ads interrupting the videos and your pause in the videos 3 or 4 times.....which was not like experiencing the music when it was first heard. Back in the day.....we didn't have pauses while listening to a song on the radio. I do wish that I can see a reactor's reaction listening to music without pauses which would give the reaction an authenticity to the music being heard for the first time.

You don´t know Yes in a whole when you have not listened to the studio versions of "Starship Trooper" and the ending (last nine minutes) of "The Gates Of Delirium". Highly recommended.

Keys To Ascension for a good live version in 5.1 surround. Wakeman is part of that version.

Not my favorite song by YES but it tells you a lot about where they were at in their becoming. Experimentation and risk taking was the norm for them at this point. And You and I is a great shorter song, Awaken is top shelf of their longer songs… don’t go there too soon, but make sure you get there!

Like his good friend Keith Emerson, Rick stacked and surrounded himself with keyboards and electronics.

Yes for the longest has opened up every show with this song after walking in with Firebird Suite.

"Metal for Yes", you might say. But yeah, the very best of Yes, making a long song feel short by taking a small handful of pretty basic ideas and then arranging them exceptionally well. So they'll give you a motif or melody which you can recognise when it comes back, but when it does, it's _slightly different_ so you stay interested. The title track of Close To The Edge does this so well, and holds you for 19minutes without boredom. This is also why Tales from Topographic Oceans *isn't* such a good album, because there are too many ideas crammed in, like making a meal with the entire contents of the fridge/cupboard/spice rack and not being selective enough.

Progressive rock is written with transitions in mind... usually.

I've been listening to Yes since the '70s. Back then, my favorites were Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Heart and CSN. Today Yes is my favorite.

My favorite Yes Song where Steve Howe’s genius is fully expressed.

With these songs you really get your money's worth. Yes was amazing at that time. I saw them live in Brussels in 2006 or there about. Especially Khatru was just fantastic. You could feel Chris Squire's bass in your stomach.

Actual prog was born in 1969 with the album 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson, they inspired Yes.

I mess with some YES !!!!!!!! But i have a small disconnect with this song for some reason.

This is one of Yes' weirdest songs. It is great live, but the music and the lyrics don't even match, the different sections don't mesh, I still have no idea what Siberia has to do with anything. It seems to be in some strange impossible time and key. I don't think anyone else could ever play it, maybe that was the idea. A real Frankenstein of ideas stitched together. It has a beginning, middle, and end, but circles back around several times, like a lot of Yes songs do, and ends with a big Jam. I have in all my years never heard it played on the radio.
