As someone from a small town with a graduating class of 117, I can say the song is dead in accurate. Smaller communities are brought up looking after one another. Everyone is family regardless of blood. The acts he's singing about absolutely would not fly. I got the impression that the song is about small town pride, not hatred. That's just my 2 cents though

My cousin had a graduating class of 24, another cousin had a class of 33, her brother had a class of 66. Their town was ravaged by a tornado (F5) in 1997 that killed 27 people everyone in town was related to or knew at least one of those 27 people. Before the tornado left the ground people from the other side of town were trying to find survivors in the rubble(what little rubble there was because houses were torn completely apart and off the foundations and scattered over a couple miles) in the days after people were opening their homes loaning RVs campers etc to those that lost everything, bringing them meals, clothing, water(before the Red Cross or anyone else showed up with aid)

Personally my class was 396… I’m a city boy… but love the small town atmosphere… my friends in school had house parties all the time… I never went… I was out at my cousins hanging out in a field or at a bonfire on the weekends… my friends parties got busted… we did too sometimes but it was different back then… usually the sheriff just told us not to leave the property and quiet down a bit.

I hated this place growing up because I couldn’t do a damn thing without my family finding out, which kept me in check. Now I love it. I moved back to this small town because I wanted my kids to have good values, have a charitable heart and love thy neighbor. It’s all good in the sticks!!!!

I'm a Black woman and I love this song. The video and the lyrics. Saying it's racist is ridiculous. And shame on Black people for even identifying themselves in the video. Are we saying we're the only group of people who protest, riot and do criminal things? Truthfully speaking, there were more images of White people in his video. Does that make Jason a racist because he showed less people of color? Gimme a break! The whole racist crap was to try and start some unnecessary mess between the Blacks and the whites over music ...really? Newsflash ..I love my country, believe in God and want to MAGA. Oh, and I love country music too! 😂

That's EXACTLY why "they" did it! Trump's support in the Black and Brown communities increased in 2020, which is why he won in a landslide. It wasn't with White support overall. Trump made great inroads in POC territory and the Dims thought they had these groups locked in.

Great reaction, Dave. As an old white woman, I realized that I might be looking at this with the bias that "of course, it's not about race". So I've been binge watching reaction from a variety of reactors, but mostly black. I was happy to find that they saw community, not race. Many talked about the small towns they grew up in or the small towns they live in currently. All agreed that you can't get away with the stuff that is sometimes tolerated in big cities. Thanx for doing this one.

Totally agree that it is from a community lense, it can only be seen from a different perspective if you are looking for it and then it is still a stretch. As a 72 yr old vet and not raised in a prestigious family such as dr., lawyers white collar workers , we were friends with blacks before it was widely accepted. That being said we all had the hard working respectful ethics, but when it came down to a family or individual was threatened of any color the community reacted to protect our own. Whites and minorities pulled to gather including law and fire dept. to defend or find the culprit the hurt others. Not only were we a small town but God loving southern. I like this song.

Just saying...Anyone that has had the privilege of living in a small town understands completely what Jason Aldean is trying to point out. God and family still have real meaning. Loving and honestly caring about and for one another, working toward the same wholesome moral values, defending what they know in their heart is right, not accepting behavior from anyone that attempts to destroy this incredible country that was built by good God fearing people of all colors and races. He is simply saying that standing up for what is right regardless of the circumstances is not picking a fight but simply refusing to back down from one.

@@gregkrynick3256it is a courthouse not a church. Apparently, there was a 18 yr old black man that was hung there for a crime he apparently didn't commit. So that is one reason ppl are upset with the video. But this is something that happened almost 100 yrs ago. Before Jason was born or the guy who directed the video. So it is something they more than likely didn't know. Plus there have been other movies shot in front of that courthouse. Another thing ppl are upset about, is they claim his song is inciting violence..which it isnt. He is saying that ppl in small towns stand up for and protect eachother and would not tolerate the type of destruction and harassment that we have seen nationwide during protests. There is nothing racist or inciting violence about this video. Ppl are just fed up with how our country has become. The lyrics are exactly how so many Americans are feeling now a days

Ironically, Jason Aldean's 'Try That in a Small Town' song was released in May. At the time no one said it was "controversial" or "racist", until 2 months later when his music video released!?🤔

When all this rioting and looting started, my first and consistently main thought was "OK you're upset about things happening in the world, and want change.. What does that have to do with you causing hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars in property damage? You're not solving anything!!" So yes, this song epitomizes my sentiment towards those events.

Great reaction! New sub here & I appreciate your openness to listen to it and watch it and judge for yourself and give your feelings on it. I respect everyone’s point of view whether it matches mine or doesn’t as long as it’s civil. If someone watched the actual video and listened and still believed it to be racist I wouldn’t tell them they’re not allowed to think that. That’s their feelings. We have walk different journeys. I feel sad for Jason Aldean & his family for what this is putting them through and sad that it seems to be okay to judge me (not you, I’m talking the screaming heads and mainstream media) because I live in a small town and I agree with his words. Coming from a very small town I can promise the foolery shown in the clips of the video wouldn’t go down like that. We have each others back no matter the melanin of skin, sex, political views, football teams (lol, it’s real), career etc because we are a community. Doe’s everybody like each other? Well no. Of course not. That’s life but if somebody wanted to attempt this type of mess here he’s right we take care of our own. Period. Thank you for the fair assessment & thoughts. Have a like and a sub! Not because we agree but because you were fair.

The video was dropped from CMT - and it should have been. The video used the site of Henry Choate's lynching as backdrop for the video - if you combine the message of the song with that history it takes on a pretty different message.

@@reececoventree9849 - A lynching site IS the message. He could have shot that video anywhere, but that location was chosen. Specifically. Hannah Montana didn't talk about taking the law into her own hands - but Aldean did. That is the exact message of the song. Are you suggesting 'try that in a small town' isn't on its face a threat? You combine that with the site of a lynching and it undermines the intention of the lyrics - and CMT was right to pull it.

Everyone is tired of the rioting, race baiting, and disrespect that is going on in our country. Jason Aldean is just singing about it. I live in Polk County, Florida. Two years ago, groups came into Lakeland, Florida, with the thought to do exactly what Jason Aldean is singing about and what the video portrays. Our Sheriff, Grady Judd, the entire sheriff's department, and the Lakeland police department shut down their intentions. Then, when it got reported that they planned on going into the neighborhoods, to individual homes, and creating havoc, our Sheriff [Grady Judd] got on TV and made a statement. He challenged them to try. He said I tell my citizens to have guns in their homes and if you go through the door, they are to send you back out the same door you came through and we won't even question what happened. No second guessing. They will defend their home, their property, and their families. We support them. NOT ONE INCIDENT was reported. They left town. Try that in our small town.... Try that in our county.... You may go home in a body bag. As a note, the courthouse site where this was filmed also had movies by Disney, Hannah Montana, and a Hallmark Christmas movie were filmed at the same location, but those projecting that this is racist did not protest those movies but is using this video in an attempt to divide. Let's stand together against those continuing to try and divide.

I left San Francisco in 2017, fed up with the entire state in general. I found a house for sale in a town population 7,000. I took a look at the neighbors through property search and learned the house next door was owned by the Chief of Police. Then I saw news articles and TV interviews with him. The PD patrol vehicles all had a decal stating "In God We Trust." A group called Freedom From Religion petitioned him to remove the decals. He sent a short letter in response, bluntly refusing and told the group to, "Go fly a kite." That's all I needed to see. I bought the house next door and became part of that small town. That occurred in 2015, and those decals are still on every PD patrol car. We grew to love that town, leavng after 6 years. We miss it every day. I went to sleep and felt safe for the first time in decades. Thanks for your unbiased opinion.
