Hi Meghan. Thank you for watching. People who struggle with addiction need so much compassion and understanding. It really bugs me when people are stuck in a old way of thinking, that addicts are just weak people that need self control. That’s so far from the truth. So many studies over the last 30 years prove that wrong. It’s way more complicated. I’m just blown away that she made it through all that. Shows her strength!

She’s actually wearing the same outfit she was wearing the night of her overdose (the green jacket and white shirt.) In her documentary, they showed a video of her dancing with her friends in that same outfit just a few hours before they left and she wound up taking drugs. I saw Demi in an interview and she spoke about how she reached out for help. She told her management that she was struggling and she was afraid that she might relapse, which you'd think would be the right thing to do. They basically told her to stop being so selfish and to pull up her socks. Hey, can't have your cash cow and the person paying your salary out of commission now can they. I hope they're happy with the results of their inaction and insensitivity.

Thank you for reacting to this with such empathy. It really is difficult to watch but I think it is important for people to see it. I have been an addiction counselor for nearly 20 years and it is a monster. I've seen too many good people lose the battle and have personally experienced a very close loved one who almost lost his life more than once and is still fighting. People do beat it, however, and recovery is ongoing, like you said. Someone with a substance use disorder can never let their guard down. I have so much admiration for Demi for sharing her experience with the world. That can't be easy. Her documentary on KZread is difficult to watch, but again, so necessary. In order to decrease the stigma and break down barriers to those who struggle reaching out for help, it needs to be talked about.

Absolutely agree1 (appreciate all you've done & continue to... trying to help people; esp. when they feel like they have no one) As heavy, shocking & difficult as it is to even watch from a distance, cannot even fathom how she was able to even put herself back in the position to re-live & to create/film this video. I'd guess it prob took many, MANY takes, lots of stopping... & just a looooong time & lots of strength to get through. From the guy bringing her drugs late at night & them supposedly being laced w/ a bunch of Fentanyl.. As she was then O.D.'ing.. rather than help/do anything, he s/assaulted... the guy then left her for dead. (so traumatizing, yet shows just how addictive, a cycle of abuse, etc. that when she relapsed... he is who she called) ='( From her former assistant finding her... the heart attack, stroke(s).. even seeing the machine & tubes literally sewn into her neck.. that were literally trying to remove, FILTER out toxins & replace her own blood asap, as a means of saving her life.... phew!!! Give her SO much credit, idk many who would've been even willing to re-live, re-traumatize themselves. What an amazing song tho... the entire album, actually! "Anyone" is my absolute fav.. so personal, so relatable for different reasons... It's not just that emotional connection she & her lyrics always contains; her talent & vocal ability on top of, always shines beyond, on anything she does! Wishing her the best.. the strength, the love, the peace, the happiness... things we all need & deserve. ~ Stay safe & be well.

If you have been someone who has followed Demi for a long time and knowing what she’s been through makes that music video that much more powerful and heavy. And to clear any confusion, if there was any, she had battled with the addiction for awhile and on the night portrayed in the music video she OD on things laced with Fentanyl. The doctors told her had her personal assistant waited not even two more minutes (time could be different) she would have been completely dead. The newscast you hear in the video were real ones from when this news got leaked. She mentioned in her documentary series that she wrote this song a few days before her accidental overdose which makes it that much more chilling. But thank you so much for the respect and grace you showed during this reaction, often people get too judgmental and forget she’s a human fighting a battle. And I hope your loved ones who also fight a battle never have to hit this point in their life or worse. Much love to you and yours and your channel. 🖤🖤

She was sober for six years before relapsing and overdosing two years ago. This is a reenactment of the night she overdosed, including he outfit and hair. She has three out of four parts of her documentary called Dancing with the Devil, the fourth coming this Tuesday. I recommend watching it if you can handle it. It tells about her overdose and what led up to it. She relapsed starting with alcohol and a month later, was dependent on crack and heroine which she overdosed on. Her dealer also took advantage of her while she was under the influence. Her previous management controlled her life, especially her eating disorder so that she was miserable (she wasn't allowed cake on her birthday, only watermelon and whipped cream, for example--she has a new song about this--and someone was fired for having chocolate nearby). Her new album is totally different from her previous and I don't usually like the style but I'm enjoying the album. I still miss her pop rock genre from her first two albums but I've managed to enjoy her other albums as well. There is a live for the song! On her channel. Unfortunately she has decided to be what she calls "California sober." She's not abstaining completely. It seems risky but 🤷🏻‍♀️

This hit me super hard man, like super hard. I am still trying to process seeing this and being triggered on my own journey. Mad props to her though for having the courage to revisit that night for this video and this song, I definitely wouldn't be strong enough to do it. Your reaction is in a way comforting though, you have so much care and empathy towards her and the issue and I am really thankful for that

She did relapse when she signed with her new management in 2019 and she thought that because she overdosed in 2018 and relapsed a year later that they would’ve left her but that’s what really made them stay with her cuz they were gonna let her go to another team cuz their plates were full but because of this, they realized that they had to stay and help her.

And speaking of the docuserie, in the premiere she performed this song, Anyone, and ICU; a song for her little sister. Highly recommend to react to them too, or even better the whole album cuz is a masterpiece full of growth, truth, love and hope, very insightful and cathartic.

Her voice is still amazing, I'm surprised that her drug of choice hasn't done any damage. She's telling a strong message, a message that is about her struggles. Love the song bc it lets you in, trying to get us to see her wearing the pain, sorrow & saying/asking, she's/I've been good haven't I ?! I hope she has people who watch & worry about her. And please keep her safe. She's crying out, crying out but there's that DEVIL she has to dance with. It hurts my heart & soul that a beautiful, young woman is stuck in this vicious cycle like so many, it's easy to get in but so difficult to get out. Only the strong are survivors . My mother was a heroin addict for over 25 yrs. but when her 1st G'son was born. She hitchhiked from California to Louisiana while she was sick bc she went cold turkey. The withdraws are terrible, painful & you'll yell, scream, cuss & threaten to kill yourself. But when she came to my house, I cried bc I had my mother back. She loved her G'children so much that she stayed clean until she was called home. But she was the greatest g'mother & I'm so PROUD of how finally she turned her life around. All for her G'children. Signed 💋 Akita 🇺🇸👵🙏

The medical machine is like a filter of blood. She has 2 tubes one is her blood going to the machine to be filtered and the other returns the blood to her body after being clean. This is similar if not the same used for dialysis, the idea is to take out all the drugs from her system. It's so shocking to see it. She was very honest and brave with this video. The part where she is in the bed and the guy is on top of her that is her drogs dyler he gave her a mix of drugs and assaulted her when she was unconscious and just left her there

Thank you so much for this reaction! I’m so happy when people spread this video and therefore this issue. First I have to say I am so humbled by Demi with her absolute bravery and courage to put herself fully in this position again and practically relive it. That takes something inside someone that is so special and takes a lot of integrity. Where she was hooked up in the neck they were constantly feeding her new blood and ended up having a full blood replacement. Hence the survivor tattoo in that exact place has so much meaning. She was on a ventilator but also her heart was hooked up to her pumping machine. She was blind when she woke up and didn’t recognize her sister and her mother. The man who kept rolling her over was her supplier who kind of set her up like she was sleeping and left her for dead. So tragic. When you’re in that space you think you can trust certain people, but with drugs it always includes a complete selfishness we’re people will try to save them selves first. She was also sexually assaulted back in her Disney days by a costar and it was then swept under the rug and she had to continue working with him through many more seasons of the show! Sidenote, a man I dated many years ago while living in NYC had been a Heroin addict who have been clean for about seven years, but stayed in the rehab scene and became a counselor and saved many peoples lives. One day, a day after I spent the day with him, He overdosed on heroin and died. It never seems to end. God bless everyone who is struggling with this. You’re right they are always a “Covering drug addict” or a “recovering alcoholic”. ❤️😢✌️. Another issue that is barely talked about in music or in video was brought to life by Ashton Irwin of 5sos In his first solo single called skinny skinny. The video is incredible and moving and is a must do for you.

The tattoo could also relate to the fact her dealer sexually assaulted her, as that's why I have a survivor tattoo, the horoin he gave her was laced with fentanyl which she didn't know and is what caused the overdose. She did an acoustic version of this song I believe twice since the video was released. This video was a replication of everything that happened with her Overdose in 2018. From where she started, the lies, the hospital she was in everything. She did suffer strokes and a heart attack as well as massive brain damage and she was legally blind for a while. She still can't always drive by herself. She is clean now except for some marijuana use. I love your reaction to her and how personal you got with this reaction, especially as a hard core Demi fan who has family that is addicts. @MetalGuy, I sadly can completely understand what you were speaking about having ppl that are close to you that have addictions and how hard it is to hear/see this type of thing... There's quite a few addicts to different things in my family as well and it is extremely hard!! I've literally had to help raise one of their children because they were not safe in any possible way with her, and when the father got full custody and he'd gotten divorced fr someone else, I HAD TO step in again and help him with raising them.... I've been shocked for many years that her n a few others in our family haven't died from it yet! But don't get me wrong because most of the family I never got to know as I was growing up is because they did pass away from it... and sadly, I don't think a couple of them have very much time left🙏😢

If I recall correctly, Sober was a song she did in 2018. I believe it may have something to do with the incident at that time, or leading up to it. It is also quiet the song. I also very much like her song Sorry just as a pump-me-up song. Lastly, she has a song called Love Me that really hit me; it gives voice to a lot of my own feelings. Other suggestions: Anything that is NF, he's a star. I know you've done a number of his tracks, but they all deserve to be given a listen to in my opinion. =3

Another interesting detail is the end of the video - she is seen leaving her hospital bed with the "survivor" tattoo, but once again wearing that same green jacket, which I think I read somewhere was supposed to show that even once she survived the OD she ended up going back to substance abuse and her abuser. Very heavy song and video, takes guts to come out with something like that. I really hope she wins that battle.
