I recommend " Historia bez cenzury - Poland first to fight! " as a Pole living in free Europe, the European Union. I would like to point out that honor in the sense of a Pole is something more than for a German or a British person. It is as if most nations accepted that the ends justify the means. For most Poles, the ends is less important than the path to it.

Berlin is actually the former Slavic settlement of Bralin, the Koepenick district of Berlin is the Slavic Kopanica, there is no word in German from which this name could be derived. Hence, it is not surprising that the Germanic invaders who colonized these areas left a bear in their coat of arms hehe. You chose the worst of all the films about Wojtek the Soldier. Half of the photos were photomontages, some showed Germans, not Poles, and in one the Germans posed with a (dead) bear skin and you didn't notice. Shame on you.

Just one comment regarding the former video (the last one): I think You really shouldn't give "hearts" to all the comments of Russian trolls, saying threats about nukes or their other crazy, alternative versions of reality.

My teacher told us that from one of Wojtek's friends. When Wojtek lived in the Edinburgh Zoo for years, he was often visited by many people, including a soldier. When Wojtek heard the Polish language, and he only knew Polish, he stood on two legs and saluted... He was a real soldier 🇵🇱

The Poles dreamed of taking Wojtek with them to an independent Poland after the war. Unfortunately, this did not work out, as Poland was handed over to Stalin. Poles did not want Wojtek to become a post-war mascot of the communists.

Wojtek is not the first bear to serve in the Polish armed forces. The first of them was the polar bear named Baśka Murmańska. She served during the Polish-Soviet war in 1920. She even took part in the victory parade in Warsaw, and during the march, she saluted to Marshal Piłsudski together with the rest of the soldiers. Unfortunately, her end was not so peaceful as Corporal Wojtek's.

I watched a movie about Wojtek and there was a statement from one of the soldiers. He said that Polish soldiers lost their homeland, their mother, just as Wojtek lost his mother. This was the foundation of this friendship.

I spent a lot of time looking for information about Wojtek the Bear. I think he did more than just carry heavy ammunition boxes. The Battle of Monte Cassino (also called the Battle of Rome) - in fact, four battles fought by Allied troops against the Germans, which took place in 1944 in the area of ​​the Monte Cassino monastery. This battle is considered one of the fiercest during World War II. British historian Matthew Parker wrote: The Battle of Cassino - the largest land battle in Europe - was the heaviest and bloodiest of the fights between the Western Allies and the German Wehrmacht on all fronts of World War II. On the German side, many compared it unfavorably with Stalingrad. Poles took part in the fourth (victorious) battle. Poles have achieved what may seem impossible. They conquered Monte Casino. No army in that place had such high morale as the Poles. Smiling fierce Poles with a bear at their side. Wojtak not only carried ammunition but also boosted morale. he was great tenderness and cuddly walking love. Poles loved him and everyone else feared him.

This is a Syrian brown bear, they are smaller and have lighter fur than the regular brown bear. Here is the narrated (with more facts) story: "The Story of Wojtek | The Polish Military Bear". EDIT: Our symbol is the white eagle wearing a golden crown. It is a symbol from a legend about the formation of our country; there were 3 brothers Lech, Czech and Rus, who went in search of lands for themselves. Some evening Lech saw a white eagle on a nest in a tree, the sun was setting and it was coloring everything in red hues, the eagle spread out its wings. Lech decided that he would build his city in his place, that's how the city of Gniezno (Nest) was funded, with a white eagle as an emblem of Lech's country.

This bear was purchased from an Iranian trader. He was very tame. To take him further, they made him a Polish soldier so that the English would not have any objections. After the war, after the dissolution of the Polish army in England, Wojtek the bear was sent to the Edenburg Zoo. Another great video about WW2 Polish Soldiers is LazerPigs - "I am a Pole" The Legend of Piorun It describes the absolute mad lads of the Polish destroyer Piorun and the hunt of the Bismarck. I Imagine you at least heard somewhere about the Bismarck, but if not then LazerPig has a quick explanation in the video. Heads-up: LazerPig has a very interesting way of telling stories :)

When they travelled in Italy, Wojtek had a habbit of jumping from a car, running toward beach just to scare sunbathing girls there ;)

There are Wojtek Memorials in Poland one is in Szczecin i believe, he was a syrian bear they can be found in territory of Iran and Turkey. Besides Wojtek there was Michal and Baśka Murmańska that was a polar bear. Those Bears didn't get along unfortunately and our dreams of forming bear cavalry and subsequent word domination didn't come to fruition.

@@BB.Beyond.Borders depends how much time you will have, if only few days in 3city then it's better to stay in Gdansk/Gdynia/Sopot. It's a whole day trip to Hel and there's hardly anything there - super tacky overpriced touristy spot, few ww2 remnants and small woodland + beach. Cool place if you want to go got kites or just walk around the peninsula.

The Poles were released from Siberia and marched all the way down to Europe in the hopes they would not survive, which is why they came across the little boy in Iran. They swapped the bear for a tin of canned meat and an army knife. The rest is history. The saddest thing of all is they couldn't take Wojtek back to a Free Poland because Poland was handed to Stalin as part of the Yalta agreement. Hence a bear in Scotland. If you are interested, there is a book about Wojtek written by an author, Christine Orr who was brought up knowing Wojtek. He was invited to village parties and she has taken the knowledge of Wojtek back to Poland. They didn't know because they were under the Communist boot until 1981.

Poland also had a female polar bear in world war one. Google it. her name was Baśka. I feel like it's becoming a tradition. I wonder if we'd have a bear army in WW3.

When Wojtek's primary keeper took him out into the enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo, he said goodbye and disappeared. Wojtek then sat and waited for his owner, but this never happened, even though the keeper cried for a long time, he thought it would be better than if he had to meet Wojtek from time to time to say hello and goodbye, it would be too difficult for both of them.

The blond girl is so beautiful, lucky guy. !

Some Polish towns have a bear in their coat of arms. There is a bear in emblem of Przemysl, Rawicz and other important towns. It is not Wojtek of course, these symbols are often very old, some even medieval.

Fun fuct. We got two bears in our army. After great war (or ww1) polish soldiers from tsarist army were back to Poland with bear Baśka murmańska. Nice history but sad at the end.

1. You should visit Krakow since you'll soon be moving there 😂 2. The video didn't say but when the polish soldiers visited Wojtek in the Edinburgh zoo they often jumped into his encosure and were wrestling him, leaving the bystansers shocked. 3. In english you read it as Voitech(my name btw:). Polish J is pronounced more like i 4. There is a Polish movie about Monte Casino that is actually hitting the cinemas soon, Wojtek is in it (saw him in the trailer)But the movie is not mainly about him. More about polish soldiers

Most English-speakers are also not aware about that 'husband' is actually a combination of the old Germanic 'Hus/Hause/House' + 'band' (bonding). Similar to that many Greeks are not aware about that something obvious like that many words in English/German like 'Geography' or 'Logic' are actually Greek words). Most people use languages without much 'aware' focus on it, rather than their used associations with it (understandable but it is always a good idea here and then look on different perspectives on what one knows)

Of interest that few people know about, I invite you to read or watch a video about UFOs (disc-shaped flying ships equipped with anti-gravity propulsion) designed by the Germans during World War 2. It's such a nice story, despite the hell of the war the Polish soldiers had to go through. Read also about the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944, one of the most important battles of the II World War. In this battle Polish soldiers, under the command of general Władysław Anders (including the Polish II Corps, together with Wojtek the Bear) played the decisive role. There's a Polish military cemetery at the slopes of the Monte Cassino, with the graves of more than 1000 Polish soldiers. And one of the most known Polish war song is a song written during the battle, in the eve of the attack, by Polish soldiers - titled "The Red Poppy Flowers on Monte Cassino" (Czerwone Maki na Monte Cassino) - the red flowers symbolizing the blood of Polish soldiers shed there. On 18th May 1944, the day following the song's composition, Polish soldiers stormed and captured the ruins of the Monte Cassino Monastery at the top of the mount, putting a Polish flag there. You can find it easily in Internet, the song and the information about the battle.

tbh people wouldn't be as proud if they actually read about it. It was a meat-grinder fortified position and polish weave happened to be the last one. It's also not a exactly a decisive victory - Germans orderly retreated

@@GdzieJestNemo I've read that the battle is sometimes called the Pyrrhic victory of the allies, as this victory was not properly used later. And that was for sure one of the toughest, hardest and long lasting battles (or rather a series of battles, between January and May 1944). Controversial was also decision about bombing the monastery, being a valuable cultural heritage site. However, the sacrifice, determination and bravery of Polish soldiers fighting in this battle was undeniable. And I've read that Polish soldiers took part in this campaign not only in May 1944, but also earlier, in January 1944 (e.g. Polish unit took also a mount called Monti Aurunci). It was also significant for Polish, their role in the battle, taking into account the situation of Poland, being under occupation.

This video is poor in fun fact like once time Wojtek catch spy once thief he have some fun and very dangerous interaction with other animals... and after the war his live in Scotland also was fun, like he was on kinderparty, or wen polish soldiers come to zoo to him he stand and salute they jump over fence to him and give cigarets and oranges. His live was good he live 22 normal bear his kinde live 20-30 but he live IIww and eat lighted cigarettes all his life ( if somone give him not lighted he was not satisfied).

It is also worth to mention that we do not eat horses, because they were our best friends during the darkest hours, served diligently in the Army, helped to defeat the Moscow's Brutal Hordes many times, far away in the Wild Fields of Ukraine. That's why Polish charities are buying old horses from France, so they are not eaten in some barbarian act. You do not eat your friends....Dogs, Horses ...etc We have a heart and soul and we don't want to lose it.
