Unlike the words Jew and Christian, the word Muslim doesn't refer to a person or to a group. But rather to a state. The state of submitting your will to God. Abraham submitted his will to God, he even went to sacrifice his son. Submitting your will to God including worshiping him and following the legislation of your time. Abraham peace and blessings be upon him did both. So he's a Muslim by definition. Your only objection can be that he didn't have the same laws as Muslims today. Well early Muslims (followers of prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon him) didn't either. For example, alcohol wasn't banned at the beginning of the prophet's activity. But rather years later. So alcohol was permissible for them for a while, yet they were still Muslims. That's because as I said, a Muslim submits to the legislation of his time. And that's what all prophets did. Therefore they were all Muslim.
