REACTION: Insomnium - Godforsaken feat Johanna Kurkela

Музыка

Reacting to "Godforsaken" off the latest album Anno 1696 from Finnish MeloDeath legends Insomnium - featuring special guest vocalist Johanna Kurkela.
I have done one other reaction that featured Johanna in with Tuomas Holopainen - A Lifetime of Adventure • Tuomas Holopainen - A ... so I have heard her sing before and she is extremely talented! Very interested to see how that will play out in this song.
original video: • INSOMNIUM- Godforsaken...
Reaction videos premiere every weekday morning at 9 AM EST (GMT -5)
I started this channel with the goal of reacting to every Nightwish and Sabaton song that I haven't heard yet! A huge thank you to everyone who watches and comments, it means a lot

Ever since they brought in Jani, they've been in rareform. He's an awesome songwriter, guitarist and vocalist.

Dunno if I'm right, but this is what I gathered Copypasted & translated from all over the internet: A major inspiration for this album was Sudenmorsian [the bride of the wolf or Wolf's Bride] - a novel by the Finnish poet and writer Aino Kallas, published in 1928. It is written in Kallas's archaic, old-fashioned and ballad-like style she used in her works Barbara von Tisenhusen (1923), Reig's Priest (1926) and Sudenmorsian (1928), based on old Hiiumaa and Livonian themes. These ballad-style novels, considered her best works, depict a passionate, unreconciled love that brings happiness and fulfilment but leads to death. The Story of Wolf's Bride tells the story of the beautiful Aalo, who lives in 17th-century Hiiumaa [an isle in Estonia] and is the sensitive wife of a ranger named Priidik. She does chores during the day.. Bored with the ordinary everyday life, Aalo starts to escape into the forest at night in search of her true self. She begins to consort with wolves and sometimes turns into a wolf herself (the transformation into a werewolf happens by the influence of the Forest Spirit, Diabolus Sylvarum.) The villagers find out about Aalo's nocturnal excursions, and she is sentenced to death and burned at the stake. BUT. They wrote a new novel from that inspiration, where the wolf escapes to finnish forests, and survives there. (About this novel I don't know excact facts, I hope someone who does, helps out)

Great reaction to another awesome Insomnium song. The contrast between Johanna's ethereal vocals and the harsh gutturals of Niilo make this very interesting. The lyrics are actually more positive than most death metal, leaving the opportunity for redemption and survival. To me, the black white video gives this amore stark feel. Several lines in this song portray the struggle very well. It starts with a foreboding of doom: They say that the world freezes over They say that the Head Wolf has come Driving his forces to battle Driving his forces to war Then ending with hope: I wander in eternal darkness I wander on forsaken paths I seek for the light that has flamed out I seek for the truth in the night If hope now awakes If hope is reborn

Shaman metal? Yeah I would be into this genre, being an old folk dude. Johanna was a good pick for that sort of vocals. Vocal polar opposites, duality, it's a good setup, keeps the song changing. Yeah you're right, there seems to be an acoustic guitar too. I don't recall any other Insomnia songs, I'm sure I've heard them before, but I'm gonna check them again. Thumb up!

They have acoustic guitar in their songs pretty frequently, if you liked this song you would definitely like their other ones, I'd recommend a newer one called "Lillian" - I have a reaction to it on my channel too. For shaman metal definitely check out two other Finnish bands Korpiklaani and Ensiferum - they often have songs with mystical elements.
