Reacting WITH MY DAD (Dave Shoji) to Hawaii vs. USC Epic 5th Set!

Спорт

This is me reacting with my Dad, Dave Shoji, to the 2006 NCAA Regional Semifinal match between the University of Hawaii and USC. This was an EPIC match and I'm so excited to have my dad as my first guess on my channel! I hope you enjoy and don't forget to like, comment, and ask questions if you have them! Yay volleyball!

My family and I moved to Hawaii in 1987. I was a senior in high school. My mom and I watched so many UH matches over dinner and loved the Hawaii volleyball culture. I now coach volleyball in college and I had the chance to tell your dad that he was a big part of why I do what I do today. I only got to speak with him one time (Dallas: Lone Star national qualifier) but I was sure to let him know how much Rainbow Wahine Volleyball meant to me. Great video, Erik! Hope Dave is on again in the near future.

Coach Dave is an absolute legend here in hawaii. 4 national titles, 4th most wins as a coach in NCAA Division 1 history, and an 86% win percentage as a head coach. Tears were shed when he retired.

Great first guest! One thing that definitely drew me to Hawaii volleyball was that amazing crowd. I can't remember exactly which interview, but Coach Dave shared about one opposing team that left the court without receiving their leis after a lost & the coach made them come back out of the locker room knowing how important it is to the culture. Kawika is gonna have to come on and defend himself after This or That turned into a roasting session 😂😂

I watched your reaction videos to haikyuu by chance and later told my dad about them (was trying to convince him to watch the series with me) and he was like “wait Erik Shoji? You know that’s Dave Shoji’s son right?” 😂😂 I remember watching the UH women’s volleyball games as a kid. I even got your dad’s signature on a ball. Later, when we moved to California my parents had friends tape the games on VCR and send it over because that’s the only way they could watch it way back then

The NMSt series was always a fun one, as were any of the matches against BYU, especially in the early- to mid-2000s; but nothing beats the old (early 1980s-mid 1990s) Big West rivalries the Wāhine had with Pacific, Santa Barbara, and especially the Brian Gimillaro/Debbie Green-led Long Beach St 49ers...those were some of the best UH Wāhine matches ever. Can’t beat the Teee Williams-led Hawaii versus the Tara Cross (-Battle) LBSt games: awesome!!

I remember Kanoe Kamana'o on the national team. I'm almost sure it was in a Grand Prix match, but it could have also been Montreux Volleymasters. I think she came on when she was still in college. Awesome blocker even though she was short. Do you have any 2002-2003-ish games to react to? It was my first exposure to UH volleyball. LOL. I think the team had Willoughby, Kahumoku, Villaroman, Lundqvist, Tano, Boogard. Not really sure.
