If you're wondering why there are so many brown coated people in the road - they are (natural) Gas fitters from the earlier New Gas Cooker Sketch, which ended up in a farce of a lot of fitters none of whom would be insured to install the cooker.

Skits on the show usually connected - or intruded - with other skits. Silly Walks here started in the newstand, which was where the previous skit was just ending. Netflix has the whole series, you might want to check it out, even if you don't do a react of it.

Of all John Cleese's condiderable comedic achievements, it's probably this for which he's most famous. He became reluctant to reprise it, but did so for one episode of Fawlty Towers, 'The Germans'. His natural gangly frame helped. I never fail to lose it at 'Mrs Two Lumps'. Nice one, Megan. Keep rockin' it girl.

I have the original John Cleese 'pocket watch' wall clock: his legs are the minute/hour hands and a twirling umbrella is the second hand. No matter the time of day it always makes me smile. A cheaper reproduction version of the clock is being made again, as this skit is being rediscovered and made popular by a younger generation, and can be purchased at all the usual discount online outlets. You can also buy European/British Yield signs with an illustration of the silly walk in the triangle. I presume it means "yield for silly walkers".

Megan, I have returned. Monty Python is a comedy troop I can not get enough of! their work! Rumor is at the beginning of COVID some one put up a Silly Walk sign and filmed what happened. Reportedly people read the sign and did a silly walk. I would like to see that footage. We have to maintain our sense of humor!! Or we will go mad!! I am so happy you enjoyed this video. I consider their work a classic!! Until the next time.

Nice reaction - I think there is a KZread video somewhere where someone scribbled on the sidewalk in front of their house that this zone was for silly walks, and then everyone passing by got the reference and started doing their walks accordingly, which the scribbler then caught on video and posted lol

John Cleese famously hated this sketch. When they first went on tour and they performed this sketch the audience didn’t laugh at all. When he got off stage, Cleese told the other Pythons to take it out of the show because it wasn’t funny, but they all told him to do it again the next night and if the audience still didn’t laugh, then they’d take it out. So they did it the next night and, of course, the audience fell about laughing, so it stayed a fixture of their stage shows. Cleese admitted later on that, when he was throwing his legs around and the audience were laughing so loud they couldn’t hear them, he would whisper to Michael Palin, ‘This is the worst sketch you’ve ever written, Mike.’

I've often wondered about the people on the streets of whatever town they happened to be filming an outdoor scene. How many of them were aware of the program that was being filmed and were enjoying the fact that they might see themselves on "tellie". Of course there were no doubt some who had no idea over what was about, and ended up not knowing that they were on a television program later in the year.

There's one where the village idiot is being interviewed whilst sat on a two foot brick wall. He gives very sensible and intelligent answers, until he suddenly stops and says (something like) "oh wait, there's a bus of tourists coming", and he starts doing silly culminating in falling backwards off the wall. After that he gets back on, apologizes, and gets back on with the interview.

I had to watch it to be sure. It involved some delivery men who were delivering a stove to the right address but the wrong name, and more delivery men kept coming in to help with the problem. Then when you went out the door, you saw the long queue of delivery men in the street, waiting to help with the misnamed delivery. Then there were a couple other things in the show, none including large breasted women. There was an animated man who lathered his entire face then sliced his whole head off with his razor, then a note was written up looking for someone to fly an antique plane. It was posted on a shop bulletin board and then Idle arrived in the shop, to look for something naughty, thinking it was in code on the board, such as "small white pussycat for sale", "chest of drawers", "a bit of pram" other things. Then Cleese comes into the shop in his silly walk, and when he leaves the shop you see the end of the long line of delivery men.
