The freestyle with Kelly brought the tears. I recently lost all my hearing overnight and this performance proves that you can listen and see with your heart. Beautiful job Derek, Kelly has such beautiful lines and pure raw truth when she moves.

I totally agree. The week before that dance the judges had laid down a challenge to all the pros for the following week. The challenge was to do something or somethings in their dance routines that had never been done before and they did just what they were told to do. The jumped on the trampolines, they fell into the orchestra pit, and they broke hold in the quickstep. Should have been 10's all around.

@@shawnalocke8486 He did not break the rules. The week before the judges challenge to the pros for the next weeks dances was to do something or somethings that had never been done before. Breaking hold in the quickstep qualifies as something that had never been done before. There were enough quickstep elements in their quickstep that it was obvious it was a quickstep.

I always thought it was your freestyle with Amber that introduced you to body percussion and stepping. She really was an amazing performer.

The finally with Amber was the BEST one. Hooray for the big girls! Amber is my girl, talent all around. Derek miss you dancing on the show. To me you were the best dancer/choreographer..You and Haley are beautiful together.

So many 'haters' talked shit about how Derek was going to finally lose, that there was no way he would get to like the final 5 let alone win the entire season simply because of her size. I saw their win as a giant FU to all them ignorant people.

Aw! I was in the audience at the very tippy top for your finale with Kelli Pickler. I yelled your name down during the commercial break just before you were announced as winners. I actually got your attention and you looked up to me. I screamed "Go for 4!" (cuz, you know, it was your 4th win), and you tapped your heart and put your hands together saying thank you. It made. my. year. Such a fantastic time! xx

Amber and Derek's performance was lit ASF

I love that, even with limited time to turn out routines, Derek doesn't pooh-pooh his pupil's contributions but rather embraces and incorporates them and uses them to expand himself.🖒

Amber was absolutely amazing on the show.

I came to the comments first to see if they were going to cover Bindi's dance. I have always watched off and on during the seasons. When Bindi was his partner, I watched every show. For me it was such a healing moment and transition that she went through.

The Kelly P. finale was a game changer, memorable. Bravo! In my opinion is one of the best routines in DWTS’ history.

Can you please do another video like this, discussing your top 5 -10 fave routines you have done on the show? Loved the performance you two did recently, was sooo smooth like butter. 😊

The dance with Bindi Irwin, and Mark Ballas was pure genius. She is the sweetest human. The fusion you choreographed for Shawn Johnson, and Mark had to step in for you, was another monumental moment.

Derek is an awesome coach, you can see and feeling his love for dancing and wanting to help the couples do better by giving great feedback.

Derek, it was so cool looking back at those amazing performances. You definitely set the bar high for freestyles. The Kellie Pickler routine was so good. Watching that at home, I remember the expressions on the audiences faces after that routine. They were ALL in shock!! I was as well-lol. Nice to hear you talk about it as I always wondered how you felt after that number because it was groundbreaking for DWTS. Your ideas and creativity are what ignited the show and took it to another level. Eventually being the 1st pro to win a Choreography Emmy for DWTS... Way to go Derek!! You should be soooo proud! Hayley's kinda beaming too, nice..

So true. I remember watching it live as well and just being transported.

My most memorable dance between Derek and Kellie was the Argentine Tango... The red screen and black silhouettes were beautiful and magical!

My favorite Derek moment on DWTS was hands down the Futuristic Paso Doble he did with Joanna!

His dancing on the last night of DWTS was the greatest dancing of the whole season..so awesome!!!!

I know Derek will probably never see this comment but he is one of my favorite pros of all time on and off DWTS. My first full season watching DWTS was season 10 with him and Nicole Scherzinger and I have not stopped watching since. From Nicole to Jennifer Grey to Ricki Lake to Maria Menounos to Shawn Johnson to Kellie Pickler to Amber Riley to Amy Purdy to Bethany Mota to Nastia Liukin to Bindi Irwin to Marilu Henner you have brought Incredible choreography and professionalism to the Ballroom. I actually watch you and Amber's routine over and over till this day. That when I said I want to dance with Derek. Been following you every since.

You can either Love or Hate Derek But at least he is who he is. A true authentic geniuis human kind and honest.

Derek talking about how he would work with the band last minute but just envision those changes in his mind just proves that he’s a genius. Truly the most creative mind of our lifetime ❤

Have never missed an episode of Dancing with the Stars because of Derek. He is the Absolutely the best most creative dancer I have ever watched. He is also a genuinely nice young man.

I want to see a reflection on your whole season with Bindi. That was honestly my favorite season. That’s saying something since both my cousins were on the show in other seasons.

What Derek said about Amber doesn't surprise me. She was on Glee every week and she would not have lasted on that show if she couldn't show up and turn it on. I remember the cast talking about how brutal that filming schedule was. Between acting, learning choreography, performing on set, and in-studio recording, it was a lot.

I watched DWTS just to watch Derek. He's beyond fabulous.

Derek, You and Kelly were my fav. You both were awesome. Watching this dance almost brought tears to my eyes...
