It's the difference between a quality roast vs a drunken rant, you know? Like, when I had a baking phase, my brother showed me a bread machine and said "If I buy this, you become obsolete!" and I just about died of laughter. It's the difference between calling someone a weeb and saying they look like someone who watched all of Fairy Tail when they were younger.

A friend of mine brought this up regarding classics: why do we assume that everything written by classical writers were intentional, rather than a happy accident or maybe even a *looks around nervously* plot hole? Not to diminish classics, but these authors were human and fallible, just like modern authors. Storytime: There is this play in the Caribbean where I am from that is widely studied in high school literature and theatre classes, and even at university level. The playwright had been a guest at one lecture and someone had asked him the significance of giving his characters numbers rather than names. The playwright then said, and I shit you not, that he chose to do this because he didn't know what names to give them (we can't use that answer in tests though).

My story with overanalyzing is this: Senior year of high school we read the Shakespeare play Othello. There is a scene where I belive Othello and some other characters are inspecting the fortifications on the island of Cyprus. The scene was less than a page and it added nothing to the plot. We had to do a test related to the act the scene was in and one of the questions was what does this scene mean why did Shakespeare add it. I just put that it felt like a filler scene. If forgot if I loss points or not.

Watching a person react to something goes (slightly) deeper than just general entertainment. If it's a tv show or movie, it can be the only way to regain some of that experience of watching it a first time, same goes for anything else. That feeling can be contagious and remind you why you like something. Alternatively, compiling something like this can bring those things to a new audience that wouldn't otherwise see it, like myself in this instance.

Seeing symbolism everywhere is finding patterns where there was mostly only coincidence. The trick is knowing how to point out the real symbols. Seeing symbolism everywhere is also a great way to add extra lines to a book report. The trick is knowing how to point out the "real" symbols.

No, the trick is that real symbols are indistinguishable from good enough fakes, mostly because the majority of symbols claimed as real are fake to begin with. I wrote three pages of criticism for a two-page story for my literary exam at the end of high school, my teacher underlined two sentences in red saying that's nonsensical and gave me 98%. I was baffled, because I was like "wait, is the rest not?" Since then 451 has been my favorite xkcd.

As you are a very conscientious creator, I just wanted to point this out to you to double-check this (I am not from the USA). (5:45) I can kinda relate to that, but in my case, I primarily read comics, including graphic novels, but I also read illustrated novels, so I remember having a similar reaction when picking up a book (at a public library) thinking it was an illustrated novel, only to find that it's a regular novel (what you call 'traditional novel'. Even more so if it's from an author I follow for other works they may have done. I have trouble reading large amounts of plain text, due indirectly to what happened in my troubled past. (6:15) This reminds me of when I listened to an audiobook of a graphic novel, while reading a digital print-replica copy. I don't listen to audiobooks on their own, just as an audio track to the print or digital edition. I have the Kobo, Storytel, and Libby apps just to access audiobooks on those platforms, but read digital reflowable text and print-replica editions on my BOOX paper tablet. (6:45) This reminds me of how, when I'm not reading a book, but haven't finished reading it, I'd often think about some of the characters. In one book series I'm reading, one of the lead characters is named 'Max', and I'd often end up thinking about him when I see 'max' (as in 'maximum'). The books are all illustrated novels, and so it also happens that he wears the same style of glasses I wear in real life, and it's also coincidental that the other lead character, who is also the titular character of the series, is named 'Kevin', like I am. A contributing factor to that is the fact that I put aside all the other books I was reading in order to read this, so I can research the series for a fanfiction I'm writing, because the character cameos in something one of the co-authors did not only introduced me to the characters, but also inspired me to write the fanfiction because I dreamt of meeting those characters in person. (8:02) I have the same reaction, though not for books I don't like nor that are in bad condition. I also imagine people pulling books off NLB Public Libraries book exchange shelves (works similarly to bookcrossing and Little Free Library) for that purpose. 😖 if it's a book that I like. (8:18) I can relate to this, because a lot of the books I read are aimed at children, and they're modern books, as in stuff that came out in the past few years, and especially stuff that push boundaries and defy stereotypes to the point where some people try to ban them because they only factored the books they grew up with in the 1970s to 1990s. I somehow find it cool to be reading books that most adults wouldn't be reading. It's usually that I find the plots easier to handle, plus I follow a lot of book illustrators because I like their art styles, and they'd announce books that they had illustrated. On top of that, I follow a number of artists who happen to be furries, and so, for example, I had 'The Bad Guys' series on my TBR for a while, and it was only when DreamWorks posted a preview of their film adaptation that the furry fandom woke up to it and the artists started drawing fan art of the lead characters! This made me realise that most furries don't read books!! I confess: I've dreamt of the furry fandom talking about 'Mr Wolf's Class' and producing fan art, especially of the title character, but it'll likely only really happen if there were a TV or film adaptation of it, like I've seen some people on Twitter mentioned they dreamt of. (8:24) I too have been working on starting my own 'Booktube' channel for the same reason (and several more)! Yes, as part of that, I plan to produce videos talking about specific books and series that I like. (10:27) I can relate! (looks at my dusty (digital) copies of stuff like Mythic Creature Trainer, Dungeon Critters, Agent 9, and more) (10:36) I'm somehow getting 'The Strangeworlds Travel Agency' vibes from that, but only based on the blurbs since I never actually read that series as I have trouble reading regular novels. I'm also reminded of the intro to the original 'Dexter's Laboratory', in which the trick book had a big red button in it. One trope I'm vaguely reminded of is that some of the remote controls the title character would have would just have a grey shell, one big red button, and an RF antenna. (14:55) It's through authors and illustrators I follow on Twitter that I realised that there are not only book editors at publishers, but also book designers, who'd design stuff like the whole cover art, any fancy embellishments to the covers, and I believe they also help with page layouts for print and digital print-replica editions. (15:29) I vaguely remember an illustrator (I think it was Rob Biddulph) posting on Twitter about different cover ideas he had for a book he worked on. (16:24) I feel that way too, for books that have covers and blurbs that are attractive enough to me. It's just that I often get busy and not have enough time to actually read.

I don't know if this is a meme, but I find it exhausting to read R.A. Salvatore because whenever he writes dialogue he ends every sentence with an exclamation point. Even generic things like "I'm going to cook eggs for breakfast!" I just find it extremely hard to read a story where everyone is always yelling at each other.

So far as the glasses in the Harry Potter films go there's likely 2 reasons he's the only one who has them first and foremost is branding you want your audience to see the glasses and think there's Harry, Daniel Radcliffe recently talked about how he's never allowed to wear circular glasses in a movie again because of how recognizable that imagery is, and two glasses are a real pain to shoot around they reflect light and can cause errors that aren't immediately noticeable but might make you have to scrap a good shot in post because the glasses are reflecting the lights too much or showing a random distraction in reflection

I felt that pronunciation vs spelling one. My brother listens to audiobooks exclusively while I mostly read hardcopies except for the occasional audiobook I borrow from his audible account to listen to while doing chores. When we discuss them he ends up having to correct my pronunciation. Jasnah comes to mind in particular

Nah, the real problem after reading manga is forgetting that the rest of the world reads left to write, so I end up accidentally starting on the last page the next time I read a standard novel. That's usually my 'I'm consuming too much manga again' indicator.

Ok, I thought I already watched this but I guess that was one of your previous book meme videos so I'm sorry about posting this comment so late. The video was absolutely amazing, loved the meme about books being doorways into other worlds (almost made me cry it's so true). Anyway, I wanted to mention something. It has come to my attention that you have never watched Marvel. Now, I don't know how much you know about it or even if you like movies, but I've seen Marvel integrated into all of your meme videos so I've got to try to convince you to give it a chance. I only started watching it a couple of years ago but now I'm a fanatic. The first experience for me was much like my first experience with ATLA: kid's shows? great character development and amazing story telling? no way. This time it was: superheroes? great character development and amazing storytelling? no way. In both cases I was proven utterly and completely wrong and brought to tears multiple times during the course of the stories. So if you've never tried it please do, just don't judge it by the first few movies. Anyway it will all be worth it just to see Loki (aka my favorite character of all time besides maybe Zuko or Elend) just reading quietly in his corner while complete chaos plays out all around him. PS: Sorry if I got a bit too intense, not trying to force you into anything.
