I heard there will be some changes from the original. like they will be bringing in Azula earlier into the story. It really does look like they are sticking to the source material though, and i'm excited.

The original creators where part of the movie they just left. I also heard from another u tuber that if the original creators had there way that people would have hated then new show because they really wanted to change a lot of things.

Earth is China and Air is like Tibet. Fire is like Japan and Water is like Mongolian/Natives. If I'm remembering correctly.

Earth Kingdom is large and varied, so it includes China, Korea, and also India. Potentially Vietnam, Thai, and other South Asian countries. Air Nomads is mainly Tibet, but also has aspects of Hinduism and Buddhism, like mentions of chakras. Fire Nation is Japan and China, more Chinese than Japanese. Water Tribes are maybe Mongolian, but I didn't see anything particularly evocative of Mongolian culture in the series. I would say it's more a mix of Inuit, Maori, and other oceanic indigenous cultures. This is just my impression though, so if anyone has an actual source that says otherwise, please correct me.

@soaringaegis sounds right. I can't remember the exact details, it has been awhile since I last read/learned about the inspirations and lore of atla. I know I could be wrong on some aspects too. And the water tribe being inspired by the northern tribes in Mongolia and other natives that were living in the north because of the big fur clothing they wore. Again I could be remembering incorrectly.

Mish saying ATLA/Korra is not relevant in adulthood is wild... There are so many classic lessons in both series... 😬
