I think what makes the show so compelling is its gimmick basically ensures there's no plot armor for anyone. Literally anything can happen.

Well, technically Subaru has a plot armor, and by extension he provides plot armor to everyone he cares about (unless check point happened to be after someones death). Tho this plot armor comes at a cost of his sanity and lot's of suffering.

The reason Rem was so popular was because she was a big part of season 1 now imagine 3 long full arcs without her, while every other character is being developed

By somehow making Rem famous enough to lure in people to watching Re:Zero, then managing the influx of Rem fanatics by shortly making her disappear for a few arcs. A big, risky move it is, but by doing so, the opportunity to make people love other characters by developing them; thus giving a more solid foundation for a fanbase than Emilia/Rem factions.

@@danielantony1882 In one of the if stories written by the author himself (Tappei) he joins the witches Cult and becomes the Sin Archbishop of "Pride". This is the Pride Route, it shows what would have happened if Subaru chose to save Elsa and go with her instead of Emilia when they were in the loot house. In the end he becomes something like a psycho and has to go up against Reinhard and Emilia. There are 6 if stories each representing a sin, the Wrath route, the Sloth route etc. The Sloth Route shows what would happen if Rem accepted Subarus proposal to run away. Except the Sloth route, all the other ones have a tragic ending. The Main Series is the Envy Route. The author made the story like a game where you can choose thing (like life is strange and Until Dawn) where the choices you make will change the course of the game.

I would recommend you read 3 of those The Pride Route, The Wrath Route and the Gluttony Route. You will have to read all the Web Novels Arcs and Chapter so far to understand some things.

I have the theory that Return by Death might be a curse, bestowed to Subaru at the end of his first cycle as he held Satella's hand, promising with his dying breath that he would save her. I mean ... it technically was Emilia pretending to be Satella, but given the situation it felt too perfect to be purely coincidental. The Promise feels like it has narrative significance. We even have it in a flash forward, right at the beginning of the story. But then I started to ask myself “Who did he make this promise to?” and “Does it even matter, who this promise was intended for?” Because to me it feels like Satella was listening, and putting faith into Subaru’s stubborn will to keep going, granting him this power to eventually “save her” (whatever that means).

Say you were in the same scenario, died and then time rewinded back to where you were still alive and you kept all your memories. Would you really think that time rewinded at first? Doubtful. Subaru will gain some new powers but he ain't worthy. It has not been stated by the author what RBD is, but it is heavily speculated it's authority of Pride. White wale is not the sin of Gluttony, it was created by the witch of Gluttony. Authority of Gluttony can erase people's memories/memories of people and absorb all their fighting capabilities and memories. Okay I ain't gonna list every authority because this comment would be way too long. RBD was given to Subaru by the witch

Having not read the ln/ wc, I'm liking the idea that RBD is actually the authority of envy being basically loaned to Subaru by Satella, and that Beutalguese identified Subaru with "are you Pride?" because the Witch of envy herself is still alive and considered by the cult to be the acting sin of envy despite her being sealed, leaving only pride open to a new candidate. I saw somewhere that Satella's authority of envy is something that can be directed at people and is harmful/ lethal, but with how certain authorities change between users while retaining some similarities, I'm guessing Satella's envy was something that aged things or took time away, while in Subaru it manifests as resetting time within certain boundaries.

I love the fact that at 7:41 it shows the previous archbishop of pride when talking about greed... it's genuinely hilarious, because the character still kinda aligns with what he is saying

I think the Subaru on this route is going to be a kind of anti hero, who will act together with Satella in some way.

SUBARU IS NOT A RETARD Saying typical reasons aside i love his complexity for example when in arc 6 it was found that subaru scrachs his hands and injure himself often when betty saw his hand injuries i truly enjoyed seeing he wasn't some emotionally strong hero after one year and he was hiding and burying scars on his heart with love that drives him to go on

Hey echidnut, i have some theories at hand let me know your thoughts about it. Also, this theories is mixed of several theories i seen so credit for them. Now: The story starts around four hundred years ago, stella together with the other witches accidentally summon flugel/subaru as they are practicing the extent of magic allowed by the od lagna. However, the summon was incomplete. They were only summon flugel/saburo's soul. Thus, echidna(or the rest of the witches) fashion a body for him (that's why his appearance is different also he was given an A.K.A to fool the od lagna because they think he will upset it because of his unatural existance). Flugel/subaro develop friendship with the witches along the way specially with typhon, echidna and stella. Note: their are other witches and warlocks at the time but seven young witches bond together as friends and people started to call them the seven witches of sin because of their respective witch factor). Flugel/saburo also develop intimate feelings towards satella and vice versa. By the way stella was the youngest one who became a witch because she just recently recieved her witch factor envy at the time. Flugel/saburo became fond of the world of re zero specially the magic as he explore all knowledge about it together with echidna. Together they develop artificial spirits. They created A fox spirit with echidna's essence, a cat spirit(puck) with flugel/saburo's essence and a loli with mix essence (basically flugel/saburo is the father and echidna is the mother. They also build their own respective library of knowledge and book of wisdom. However, on flugal/saburo case his books(gospel) is inferior to echidna. In addition, Typhon was so fond of flugel/saburo she turn him into her apostle/disciple whether he likes it or not. Now, because of all of this interactions. Satella develop envy/jealosy towards the other witches but she keeps them hidden. along the way, flugel/saburo had adventure on the world and meets different people and befriend them. He meets a merchant named hoshin( like otto on the current timeline) and gives him ideas from his world to form many merchandise. He meet shaula and turns her into his apprentice. He saved a pregnant woman on delivery, she was put on his library. However, after giving birth the woman died leaving a triplet but one of the triplet also died leaving only two boys. He also meet a princess of lagunica, a monk, a young boy, a divine dragon, a powerful swordman and the aunt of her beloved satella. He also planted a tree along the way. Now, a war broke lost across the world. Witches and warlocks found out that when they collected seven witch factor it is enough to control the Od lagna(fate/stay at night references-moon cell) basically becoming a god. So they killed each other on pursuit of power. Flugel/saburo wanted to protect each of his friends, the witches. thus, he created a group for them. Together with satella and his friends and group marched towards each of the witches. Unfortunately each one died(specifics of the death is found on the season 2 of the anime or arc 4 of the webnovel). However, before they died, they passed the witch factor to flugel/saburo(now you may wonder why flugel/saburo because his existence is not normal thus, he has more compatibility however you may choose stella for this, either way, it depends, let's see how the author writes this off). Now satella was the only one left among the seven witch of sin. Flugel/saburo was worried thus, he created a santuary near a waterfall were the witch of sloth died. Because strategicly, his tower(library) could basicaly guard it and he put satella there. While on the library. He together with his friends develop trials(defenses) and explore the possibility of controling also the od lagna. Remember, how satella keeps hidden her envy/jealosy. All of those feeling were stacked up together with her feeling of loneliness, and anger. Thus, it exploded inside her, giving birth to her shadow... The WITCH OF ENVY. This shadow upon emarging engulf half the world. Now flugel/sabauro tried to rescue her but it was too late. She was consume by envy. Her rage pointed towards him (take note of the crime of passion thing) because she sees the witch factors inside him to be a by product/proof of loved by the other witches. Now, his friends protected him and together they fight the WITCH OF ENVY. However, they could not defeat her. Now during the fight, they found out the properties of her authority of Envy and the only way to defeat her is to seal her. Now, with all combine power(power of friendship) they were able to seal her. But, flugel/saburo loved satella so much that he wanted to save her from this predicament and wanted to stabilize the re zero world as it only has half of its entirety. He rush towards the tower and open THE DOOR that connects to the Od lagna. Being loyal to him some of his friend went with him this include a monk, a young man, a princess, two young boys, and an elf. Before leaving he instructed his apprentice to protect the tower and the witch santuary(where the WITCH OF ENVY is currently sealed) and lay down some rules of the tower, he also said to her that she could proxy/claim that she is one who sealed the witch as Flugel/saburo is so ashame to admit it. As they enter THE DOOR. They were warped around. And instant, Now they are floating around the source of all... the Od lagna. Because flugel/saburo only has 6 witch factor he could not fully control it. However, by some miracle, he was granted some wish. One is to stabilize the re zero world and saving satella. But, the act of saving her will eventually undo her seal. However, Od lagna took her physical body and transform it into a baby girl (now incase your wondering, the seal was to prevent the WITCH OF ENVY going rampant. this seal is similar to sleeping beauty syndrome as it sealed away her soul). Now, as he holds the baby girl, he thinks that satella will have a new life starting from zero. Thus, a new name is required. He named her EMILIA. He wanted/wished the best for her and he wanted her to be happy. This feelings even though inside the field of Od lagna sparked the cat spirit as he breaks his contract to echidna leaving puck to have problems in his memories while still having this feeling towards emilia he practically searched for her to fullfill this wish. (note: puck is also known as the beast of the end because of flugel/saburo essence as it is unatural existence on the re zero world). Now, while holding the baby on his arms. They return to the tower. However, time inside the Od lagna flow differently from the re zero world. Almost 300 years had passed ( note: it can be 250 years or so or 293 years). Because of trauma and burden of the witch factors, flugel/saburo is on death bed. He gave emilia to her aunt fortuna and asked to take care of her. He also instructed his friends to seal information regarding the Od lagna and to protect his remains as it contains the witch factors. And as he die he look at Emilia and smiled. Because of the incomplete summon his soul returns to earth and he wakes up feeling that he missed something as his eyes tears without warning. Few days had passed, he walks to a convenient store to buy food. But later in a blink of an eye he was summon to another world... By stella. (now it is the start of the series). Now, what happen to flugel/saburo's friends. Because of their absence the group that originally purpose is to protect the witches specially stella had been corrupted from the inside and thier views were twisted along the way thus creating two factions of the witch cult. The two young boys accidentally acquired the glutonny while carrying flugel/saburo body likewise the young man also acquired the witch factor of greed. But later passed it onto his son regulus. The princess also acquired lust factor and return to her castle but because of the witch factor she became mad and cruel(take note: because of the timeline she assumes a different name). Fortuna and geuse keep thier promised and take care of emilia. And also they carry the gospel given to them by saburo/flugel (now because of saburo's obsession to stars he gave them star nicknames based on their personality). - now this is the birth of the sin of archbishops. Now, upon arrival to the rezero world saburo (now with complete summon). He has no power, he acquired it during his first loop when emilia named herself as satella prompting a shared experiences with satella. When emilia died and as subaro reached her hand. The witch factor of envy were transfered to him(take note:even though it can happen even if emilia never named herself satella but for the purpose of control over saburo it is required). The shared experiences also created a gap to form a contract with satella because technically emilia still is satella's body. Now saburo has the return by death ability. I have an idea, saburo was not the first one called by satella while sealed. Al was the first one. Stella tried to summon saburo but failed the first time. This is also a plot for pride arc. In addition, if there are 11 arcs and 6 already done, so 5 arcs remain right? I think each arc may contain the following plot 1. Wraith arc - contain emilia and fortuna/sirius, 2. Black snake arc - the final mabeast 3. Lust arc - felt arc 4. Pride arc - al arch. 5. Ending arc A.K.A WITCHES arc

after rem negleted her duties and went to sleep emilia got huge development(cause she s our main B for near 200 chapters....).i think that im the only ln reader that still thinks rem is best girl....she wasnt "there" for near 200 chapters but she still made us wet the moment she appeared infront of subaru in the "white room"!!! shaula is a near 2nd but maybe thats just me(girls under 14 arent on my radar :P)

I don't read manga either but anime confirmed that return by death is actually authority of envy not pride and he got it from satella/witch of envy. SPOILER the witch of envy and satella aren't the same person satellas mind was incompatible with the spirit of envy so they became two different personalities and my theory is that subaru got return by death from the witch of envy and not satella and that's why subaru can't tell others about return by death because of the envy part.

Season 3 is where we’re going to see their political strengths. Felt is amazing at finding people with hidden strengths, talents, and desires. The purple haired girl is pretty accomplished even though she came out of nowhere and is quite the merchant spreading her influence quite wide. Crusch is basically the favored, but her chances lower a bit in season 2(arc 4) and the stuck up girl who’s Knight is Al is just insanely lucky and hate able. With her luck I feel like she might actually be a likely candidate.

He can fill the seat of "Pride" if he wants to because he is suitable on it..and priscilia is also suitable on that seat too said on Arc 5.

as of s2 ep8 these are my theories -Emilia is a clone and/or will become the witch of envy -Rawswall, Puck, Beeko, Loli grandma girl, and maybe the cult are planning to revive/use the other witch's to either kill or revive Satella. they were all alive and vital when the witchs were alive. -Emila is either a vessel, pawn, or meant to kill Setella by becoming a witch. -the twins, emilia, and subaru are the most out of the loop on this. -the gospel was created by rawswall -the archbishop's pasts are important -either Subaru is left with no one while saving the world while the who what where why and how are relieved of his summons and RbD. Or he lives happily with emelia and children. -Satella may be trying to use subaru to stop any conseracys it goes on...

SPOILER: When subaru kills sloth he gains The authority of sloth and can use only 1 unseen hand. He then has a pact with Beatrice, and she is on his side all the time. Also he can handle a whip made of a magic beast. He learned parkour to move around better during fights aswell. Im pretty sure he kills pride and gains authority of pride aswell.

Subaru doesn't kill pride, we actually aren't sure if there even IS a pride at the moment. The last Pride was killed around 20 years before Subaru was summoned

SPOILERS: During the fight,The sword saint blessing was taken by Reinhard and stripped from Theresia,that’s why she lost.

Well so far all we know is that one of them is Al's circumstances. I believe that understanding his circumstances would clear up Subaru's as well, and everything else that originally came from Earth. The others I can only speculate but I'm assuming one involves Satella, and the other...Reinhard maybe? I'm starting to think there are a lot more than just 3....

@@Echidnut we know that satella summoned subaru and that there are other people summoned before. no one of them was summoned before the witch was sealed. we also know that aldebaran has a similar rbd like subaru from a couple of hints in the ln. however there are limits in the area of effect and number of times in a row. we know that satella has 2 personality and 1 of them wants to die and the other to be free and destroy the world. we know that the witch cult was created to safeguard the 7 authorities, but pandora did something to corrupt these people creating the archbishops in the process. we know that emilia hold great power and that these power is connected to the witch miasma and that miasma doesnt affect her. she also has the key to open a seal in elior forest. if pandora wants what is kept in that seal means that there is a dangerous power in there. we know that a part of raid soul is inside that holy sword and that his personality create problems for the wielder like absence of empathy towards people he slain or that the sword cannot be drawn unless an enemy is worthy as well as a voice inside the head. the witchs plan must be connected to block the seal from working and so no one must win the royal election or emilia must win but being possessed before the cerimony so the seal will be rended void. subaru was probably a protection mechanism for emilia and a good temporary vessel to be near her final victim. in order to open the seal of the witch 1 method is that no one can win the election and so the seal disappear or the second one, open the doors if you possess all the 7 authorities. thats all we know until now.

Well out of all of them the most powerful by far is the Authority of Vainglory held by Pandora which can alter phenomenon to its users choice as many times as they like meaning they can literally control everything and can chose what does and does not happen

No, in the Pride route IF novel he did indeed try to kill Reindheart but he wasn't able to no matter what he tried to do. But he was able to kill the sword saint. You need to read it to understand.

He can’t kill Reinhardt as a person but he killed Reinhardts passion, motivation and reputation as he destroyed Lugnica which Reinhardt swore to defeat, this isn’t as satisfying as him dying but at least Reinhardt got triggered and finally found a person to hate

The events of season 2 were written long before Rem was widely accepted as "best girl". Tappei is a very good writer who knows how to properly tell a story, so I doubt he would implement personal bias into his decisions regarding the plot
