Why didn't you finish your summaries? At least I, have really appreciated and enjoyed them, and am saddened on having to rely on a comvination of wiki's, 6 minute summaries and 10 hour audiobooks for the remaining books as I'm currently halfway through witcher 3 and don't feel like taking the time out to read 3 books ion a rushed manner. I'd prefer to be reading them at my own pace after I finish the game.

1:00:00 rayla did not die there she was captured (and later tortured). Also I find your theory about Vilgefortz witcher past kind of interesting. It never occured to me. Ultimately I think it was not the case. The realization that hit Geralt was simply that he was in way above his head and he was going to lose the duel. Vilgefortz was extremely powerful mage and it was magic giving him the reflexes and strength to beat Geralt with a staff like a child. And that's all there was to it. We never got any hints about him previously being a witcher, and also we had other characters who were extremely good fighters even without being witchers so being good in duel does not indicate witchers past per se.

Hello there, awesome summary, I hope next one will come soon. I've spotted one mistake (other than "afraid of death" scene, which was already mentioned several times) - Stefan Skellen was not a viscount, he was not a nobility. This may seem like a insignificant information, but it will be important later, trust me.

My book matched PhantomSplit’s I thought that the “her” Vilgegortz was referring to death. This is because when Geralt was at Sodden, he spoke with death and had a conversation similar to this. I think that if the “her” is referring to Death, then both translations make sense

@@phantomsplit3491 I'm Polish so I'll help you a bit. "Death" is a feminine noun in my language that's why the translator used the word "her", but instead it should be "you're afraid of it", as "it" reffers to "death". Hope it helps :)

the scene with vilgefortz represents the abyss below geralt and ciri and the tightrope he must walk to get her to where she belongs, my guess is that is that it has something to do with the transportation portal in the tower of seagulls, behind which, the wizards of elder blood reside, though that is entirely a guess. but either way I believe it to be an analogy of the mages themselves and the danger to him and ciri by placing her in their care with all of the divested political interests vying for ciri through their court sorceresses, not to mention, the sorceresses own ambitions. And perhaps, even the wild hunt. But considering I'm only going on your summaries, what I've read, the second game and half the third, I may be entirely off base.

why did foltes feel like the wizards betrayd him? Was there an error with information flow or what happened? The wizards only tried to protect the kingdoms by capturing the nilfgaardian spies, right? Why would Foltest be angry at them?

  • @phantomsplit3491

    @phantomsplit3491

    7 жыл бұрын

Oskari Miettunen Foltest did not kill his wizards, only kicked them out of Temeria. Not much information is given on the subject other than a line or two by Dandelion. Foltest obviously was not happy about the traitorous wizards that were working with Nilfgaard. I also assume he was not happy with the wizards who tried to remain neutral while Nilfgaard marched north. In all, I think less than 10 wizards remained loyal to the Four Kingdoms after the failed coup at Artuze. I'd also be willing to bet that Foltest will try to blame the war on the wizards because of Artuze even though it was really the fake attack at Dol Angra which was the real cause. That attack may have gone a lot more in the Four Kingdom's side if it wasn't for the traitorous wizards though.

I have started BoF and should finish it tonight or tomorrow, video probably later this week. I do know from Baptism of Fire that Redania already blames the wizards for the war with Nilfgaard. That is why I said Temeria may have the same idea.

Yes, I am. From what I have heard they are pretty accurate. The one scene in this video is really the only part where something has been lost in translation so far (that I know of). Sometimes there are issues with singular/plural. And sometimes it is easy to see when two people translate different chapters because the same character will just feel *different* with no explanation.

Just put this in the comments of the 3rd one, but will put it here as well, hope it helps! Hi there. Since you seem to be interested in pronunciation of names, I think I can help with some of the more Germanic and French names. More knowledgeable people, please confirm or correct me, but it seems there's a lot of French, German and Dutch thrown in the mix of names. If Dijkstra is indeed not a Polish name as well, it's a Dutch one. The ij in Dijkstra is pronounced like the ai in the word "air". If I find any other things I can help with, happy to oblige, unless you find it annoying (which would be understandable), then feel free to delete this message. Loving this series, by the way, thank you!

How did Emhyr get to know about the staged nilfgaard attack in the border by the north beforehand so that they could forge an army in Dol Angra? Was this a plothole or something that will be revealed later or have I just missed it?

Oskari Miettunen Vilgefortz knew of the fake attack and has been working for Nilfgaard. I assume he told them. It never was explained how anyone, including Vilgefortz, knew what the kings were planning at Dol Angra though. When I read that scene where the Kings were planning the Dol Angra attack (in Blood of Elves), it felt like somebody was spying on it though. Really, the only plot hole I've noticed in the series is with Ciri in this book and it is very, very minor. When she defeats Cahir (the black knight) she drops her sword instead of killing him. When Ciri teleports to the desert, however, she has her sword with her.

I'm from france we already have all the 8 witchers books translated in french (the 8th was already in all the book shop when the witcher 3 came out in may 2015) I'm use to know that everything is out in english before it became translated in french, and as i'm watching videos avoir the books, It seems that they hasn't being all translated in english yet, how is that possible? It can be or that seasie that you are reviewing isn't the same story has we all know, with regis and milva cahir and the other. I might be wrong because i Do know some people who only speack ans read english and do know about geralt"s Hanse.

French publisher took The Witcher books seriously, while British/American not so much, until The Witcher 3 happened. English is probably the last major European version that still hasn't been finished (Season of Storms left). Andrzej Sapkowski was asked how possible this is. He said that market of fantasy literature of whole Anglosphere is very saturated - readers from those countries have enough books of native writers and it's extremely hard for foreign authors to make publishing deal in US or UK. Publishing houses are really cautious - it's one of the reasons why Gollancz skipped 'Sword of Destiny'- they were afraid that the book won't sell, because it's anthology of short stories, not a novel. They didn't accept argument that SoD is the second book of the series, and it's very important one. Readers had to wait until TW3 release for official English translation. Fortunately people who want these books today, won't be confused anymore.

It's super sad then! I now imagine that a lot of anglophone fans who played Blood of wine DLC didn't know who regis was and who is really is. Sad that because of a country, a lot of player didn't had the FEELS of seeing him again.

@@energeticwave5437 I dont have a source for that but its very likely those names are influenced by European languages like French, Welsh, German, etc. Sapkowski studied economics, trade relations between Poland and the Netherlands was quite common, so the chance of him running into things that are tied to other languages or cultures, in this example Dutch, are quite big. Leuvaarden, van Roggeveen, van Bredevoort, Bloedzuiger, are all very Dutch names. Same thing with the French names from places like Toussaint.

It’s TIME of Contempt. Not “times.” First thing you should probably do is get the name of the book right.
