Re-reading Favourite Books ... and Changing My Mind
Have you ever re-read a favourite book and changed your mind about it? I decided to read a couple of favourites during my #20BooksOfSummer2022 challenge, and my opinions changed. At least about one of them.
And I actually think that's a beautiful thing. If you're curious, watch the video and let me tell you why.

Books that find you at the right time are the best.
Beautiful, comforting video! Thanks.
I love the idea of book fate so much, what a romantic idea. And honestly, I love this perspective, I've always thought rereading and losing the magic was a sad thing but you've really made me think

To me it’s like a relationship that’s run it’s course. It was still incredibly valuable, even though it isn’t what you need anymore 😉
All My Puny Sorrows reminds me of In Love: A Memoir of Love and Loss by Amy Bloom which dealt with the process of how Bloom's husband, diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's, ended his life at Dignitas, an organization based in Switzerland which provides assisted/accompanied suicide. Their pragmatic approach in the planning of his end of life was both heart wrenching yet illuminating and Amy's narration reflected both sides of that.

I hadn’t heard of that book before. Thanks for the tip, Sharon. I’m going to look into it 😊
I feel this way too but I wouldn't have been able to articulate it. I will never again read Wuthering Heights as a heartbroken 16 year old, and thank god for that! But I can still reread and not diminish it. I like the concept of "loving" a book that is "just fine" and book serendipity is among the greatest joys in life!

Hi Laura 👋🏻 👋🏻 long time no see 😊 heard you’re gearing up for another mammoth readalong this summer!
I read AMPS and re-read Women Talking last year, they are so heavy yet so accessible and empathetic for people who have come from a place of understanding personally what the characters are going through or having zero understanding.

Heavy but accessible is such a perfect descriptor. That’s bang on, Becca.
The book fate part is so beautifully said that I’m just grateful for clicking this video
I have All My Puny Sorrows on my shelves because of you!! Hoping to get to it this year x

Then future Jasmine is very very lucky 😊
Absolutely love this video, Rick. All my Puny Sorrows is one that has stuck with me ever since I read it. I liked your idea of not being sad if a re-read doesn’t hold up. That’s a good lesson to hold onto.

Thanks so much, Sonya!
I read AMPS because of you. I freaking LOVED it. I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did. Also, the authors personal like is just as interesting as the book itself.

There’s a new movie of it, too! It’s good 😊
A few of my favorite rereads that never disappoint are Ivanhoe, A Tale of 2 Cities, Les Mis, Silas Marner, and The Divine Comedy.

I remember hearing years ago that someone was doing a rewrite of Ivanhoe. I don’t think it was ever published, though. I was never able to find it
Crazy! I just started reading All My Puny Sorrows... my introduction to Toews. So far am loving it at a distance. I'm scared to get too attached..🥺
