    In addition to the inseam, the weight of the rider, luggage weight on the bike and boots/shoes one wears while riding also matter. I have an inseam of 29 inches and I weigh 94Kgs. I have done multiple test rides on the Himalayan with the standard 825mm seat. I felt more comfortable when I was wearing my boots which add another 0.5 to 0.75 inches. With canvas shoes I had trouble if I had to put my foot down suddenly in traffic and had to slightly lean the bike over to have my feet touch the tarmac. I feel I would be able to flat foot it with the 810mm seat.

  • @NewsXAuto

    @NewsXAuto

    Of course, these things add up, but the fact is that anyone with an inseam lower than 30 inches would not have it easy, irrespective of his weight and other factors. Moreover, you won't be able to flat foot on the low seat. It's just 1.5 cm lower. That's not even in an inch. An inch is 2.54 cm 😊

    A better solution is to get the stock seat carved out. I am 5'3" with an inseem of 29.5". I got the seat carved out with a slightly firmer foam and the seat height is now around 796MM. Got it done by SAHARA SEATS in Hyderabad.

    @@virupakshawalla5734 Coming from a line of SBK(Superbikes), anything which is even a little more soft and cushiony feels out of place. It's a common misconception that a softer foam is better, it is for the first 3000 km or so, after which the foam starts to sink and press down until it reaches its threshold beyond which it won't compress and that's when it becomes uncomfortable. Shaving off the foam doesn't mean I am not adding anything, any "GOOD" seat maker will always add a layer of thinner yet firmer foam that doesn't compress as much to avoid the remaining material from sinking further. But if the stock seat for the Himalayan feels firm to you then I am guessing you probably ride something with a couch on it

    That was interesting, I'm 6' and I wasn't aware of just how difficult a normal seat for me is for others. I used to ride an XR250 with a 900 mm seat height! On tip toes... Now my Cb500x feels the lowest I can accept. Perhaps the seat foam can be reshaped? Thinner but better quality foam, with the sides reshaped inwards. Add a side stand pad too.

    Great info man! I found the Him 452 difficult to handle with its 825mm seat. It seems even the 810mm seat will be somewhat difficult for people with an inseam of 29 inches and lower bcoz the lower 810mm seat is just 15mm less than the standard 825mm seat and that's not even an inch of height reduction.

  • @NewsXAuto

    True, unfortunately. That's just 1.5 cm and an inch is 2.54 cm. Plus, it has less padding which could be a pain in long rides! Still, I will try to get my hands on one the moment it's available and shall then tell you whether it really makes a difference or not. Will make a video, of course 😃

    Well I was riding it without any mods for the first week of getting it and honestly it became quite easy to manage even in bumper to bumper traffic. The reason for shaving off the seat was mainly because I just prefer a firmer seat, the height reduction was an added bonus which "yes" made it easier to maintain with more confidence that I could stop it in case of sudden hault.

    Today i did test the seat height and its weird. I sat on the test ride vehicle with 825mm seat and could tip toe both sides but half foot on one side alone. When i sat on a new vehicle with 825mm and its tip toe one side while another leg is on air by 2 inches at least. I sat on a new vehicle with an 805mm seat and it was the same. I fitted an 805mm seat to test ride the vehicle by replacing the stock 825mm in that vehicle. Apparently 805 and 825 mm seats are the same tip toeing on both the sides in the test ride vehicle. Now the weird part is how seat 825mm when used lowers the foam or makes it firm so easily which matches the 805 mm new seat. Now in the dilemma whether to opt for such a difference or not. Not sure how long it takes to make the seat cushion firmer in the new vehicle. I went sat on NX500 apparently it is also the same kind of tip toeing on both sides however it is easy to manage compared to himalayan 450

  • @NewsXAuto

    For the Himalayan, there's no point in getting the 810 low seat (yes, it's not 805 mm, but 810 mm). The wiser thing to do would be to shave off some foam from the stock 825 mm seat. Should cost around 500 rupees in total 😃

    How is it possible to provide 230 mm ground clearance and a seat height less than 810 mm? People want higher power, more top speed, more torque, more ground clearance but less height and less weight. What you're looking for is not an ADV bike but Aladdin's magic carpet.

    You couldn't be more wrong! It is possible for ANY manufacturer to make a motorcycle with high ground clearance AND a low seat. How about a ground clearance of 264 mm (way more than Himalayan and every other adventure motorcycle, including the BMW GSAs, Africa Twins, etc.) with a seat height of just 790 mm? Yes, that is a street legal bike! It can be done. Don't let fanboyism for any bike or brand blind you 😊

    @@NewsXAuto LOL you are talking about Yamaha TW200, a puny 200 cc engine with a 6.8 ltr fuel tank and a 14 inch rear wheel? It is a trail bike. Not meant for highways. Himalayan is meant to be an all rounder. Valid criticism need not be dismissed as fanboyism etc. NewsX needs a better Moto expert if you're going to compare Himalayan with TW200.

    @@sreeharsha1828 LOL! Like we said, fanboyism has indeed made you blind. If the TW200, despite its "puny" 14-inch rear wheel, can boast a ground clearance of 264 mm, there is no reason why ADVs can't do that. You need to spend at least a couple of decades in understanding motorcycles before you can criticise any moto-expert who might have more motorcycling experience than you have with breathing. Heck, he didn't even criticize your favourite bike, fanboy; he never said "the seat height should have been lower; it's just not acceptable for such a bike". On the contrary, he clearly mentioned what riders of different inseam lengths can expect. And fanboys like you still got hurt. No one can help you then!

    @@sreeharsha1828People have taken the TW200 to the North Pole and you say that it's not meant for Highways? 🤣 Bhai tu fanboy nahi to aur kya hai, newsX waale sahi to keh rahe. BTW, the TW200 is a dual-sport. Of course, it has "Trail" in its name, and that's a good thing, which doesn't mean that it cannot take the highways 🤦 It's a marvel from an engineering standpoint. Fanboys like you wouldn't know, of course.

Fanbuoyz like you must have been in liquid form when he was in his riding uniform. And they are right. He didn't even criticize the bike (although he sure can; he has the expertise, and he is the only one yet to have clocked over 1500 km on this!), tab bhi tum jaison ki Bina baat ke jal gayi? 🤣
