Hello Rach and Dee [R&D Music Exchange] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). This is an unusual Nightwish song to start with. They have a vast array of sounds and styles, it would be wise to not judge the band by this song. They do indeed fall into the 'symphonic metal' category if you must label them, however they are a genre unto themselves really. Ghost Love Score at Wacken 2013 is a solid introduction to the band, their symphonic side is on full display with that one and Floor Jansen will surely impress. It's a great performance and journey of a song.

🤘❤🤘 Annette & Nightwish parted ways in September 2012 and Tuomas brought Floor in to finish the tour. Floor's first Nightwish performance was in Washington state U.S.A. on October 1, 2012. Tuomas made Floor an official member of Nightwish in October of 2013. They've taken each other to new heights.🙂

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on her. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. @@RDMusicExchange if i am allowed to mention something, dont start all along with Pendulum or Greatest Show, sure do what you feel good, but Both are very prog, in Singing and Storytelling plus Effects, perhaps its somehow easier for the Ears first to get used to the Band.

Second holding off on Poet and the Pendulum and Greatest Show on Earth. They are both masterpieces and are better appreciated with some experience with the band. Poet and Pendulum is especially meaningful and very personal to the keyboardist and composer Tuomas and Nightwish fans. Getting some experience and doing a little background on the meaning of the songs will significantly increase the impact and enjoyment of them.

Hello to our friends down under greetings from a buck private in the Nightwish army stationed in Wadsworth Ohio USA. So you are just beginning your Nightwish journey, I am 62 years old and my days of metal were long behind me and then I found imaginaerum at my local library as I recovered from a near fatal car accident and after maybe a half dozen listens I fell in love and now they are just behind the Beatles on my all-time favorite band list just ahead of Marillion and Pink Floyd. I wanted to recommend some songs but I see once again Gabriel has sent his novel of recommendations and band history. Dont give up on them they will meet and exceed your hopes and their versatility is without peer honestly you will end up falling in love given time. Thank you for sharing your journey.

@@RDMusicExchange he must have a template he works from it seems like he sends the same letter word for word to every Nightwish reactor and honestly you might want to make a recommendation but after they see his list of his favorite songs you might as well hang it up. More power to him I speak out of frustration not hate I'm sure hes allright just really really enthusiastic. I'm sure you will not be disappointed once you listen to a few of their songs.

@@jamesseiler39 Gabriel is carrying on a tradition started by Ann Waychoff who was our Nightwish mother. She would provide an introduction and history of the band to reactors when they first saw Niightwish. She was also an incredibly giving person and great friend on a personal level with any Nightwish fan who reached out to her. Sadly she passed away in June of 2020 and is sorely missed. Gabriel has graciously picked up that duty and carried on in her memory. I for one am grateful that he is out there and providing information that he has compiled with input from many in the army. Since he has done this over a thousand times, yes it is a template. As he has indicated his information, it is not a standard to be followed but a fountain of information to help guide people who are new to Nightwish. Please feel free to provide alternatives as many other fans of Nightwish do.

At the beginning of the song, Emppu(guitarist) and Troy(Ulien pipes) were talking and laughing because Emppu was going to turn down/off Floor’s in ear monitors. You can see her reaching behind to turn them up. Later, when Emppu was crossing behind her again, Floor kept her front to him, bent down to be face to face, and they exchanged a “gotcha “. Floor is 6’1”, and Emppu is somewhere about a foot shorter.

Hi Rach and Dee. Thanks for the interesting reaction and welcome to Nightwish. This is an unusual choice for a first reaction to this band. The one thing you will not be is 'bored' with Nightwish. Their music is extraordinarily atypical and complex and you happened to start with one of their most 'standard' structures. Compare them to any other band live and you will see that they are pretty much in a league of their own. I look forward to you exploring their more interesting works, of which there are many.

Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰 checking in 👍. Nice to see you enjoying this little "taste" of music, showing only a fraction of Nightwish's and Floor's capabilities. And here you also got some of Marko's excellent voice.. But Floor - the most versatile, powerful, skilled, talented and professional metal singer in the world - you might adjust your expectations of what you are in for. Every song is buildt to give the audience an experience, and Floor is a singer capable of doing anything. You have seen the first singer Tarja, together with Sharon del Adel - Tarja is primarily using operatic - but Floor only uses operatic techniques in maybe 10% of her singing. Nightwish are not a hard Symphonic Metal band - they have deep deep poetic lyrics, phenomenal musicians never overdoing anything or showing off, it's all about the storytelling, and they do this like no other band. I would suggest one of their ballads as next, to show you what I mean. "Sleeping Sun" Tampere 2015/16 "Dead Boy's Poem" from Buenos Aires 2018. The Within Temptation song you did featured Nightwish's original lead singer Tarja Turunen, who is more of an operatic singer. Anette(pop/rock style) was second and Floor( all around vocalists) is the third and current. Troy is playing the Uilleann(ill-en or ill-yen) Pipes. They are the Irish version of the bagpipes that uses a bellows squeezed with the elbow to inflate the bag. Uilleann is the Gaelic word for elbow. As for the song, it is longing to feel emotion the way it was felt when one is younger. As one gets older , they can get jaded and not have the feelings they used to. 'I Want My Tears Back' Ghost Love Score ,also from Wacken, is the song most reactors start with, and is more of the symphonic style you were expecting.

Yes! You finally got around to Nightwish! Yes, this is probably the least symphonic of their songs - try Ghost Love Score to get a true feeling of what they do. None of their songs are "typical". Tuomas, the keyboardist is the main writer and arranger of their music and I think you'll find plenty of interesting unconventional musical approaches in their music. Oh, and since you are Pink Floyd fans, you should check out their version (tribute) of High Hopes.

Welcome to Symphonic Metal and the best band in the genre. You mentioned their first singer Tarja who sang primarily in an operatic style. Floor is amazing and can sing in any style. Ghost Love Score is a good introduction to her abilities were you get classical, modern, metal, and operatic styles all in one song and an epic symphonic instrumentation. You might want to watch this same song at Buenos Aries just to enjoy the amazing Argentinian crowd and Floor dancing like crazy. Fun note on this show, at 5:20 of your video you can see the lead guitarist Emppu walk behind Floor and turn off her in ear monitor's. At 5:45 as he returns she stars him down ( she is 6', he is 5'3").

Uff, late to the Show, NW Army North Bavaria reporting in. After the horrible Inet News these days, its great to see two smiling Faces listening to NW. First off, didnt read the Comments, but if i take an bet, Martine did an recommendation, Gabriel did throw in an List, most tell you that Song is 1.not the best Choice for This, the 2k18 in Buenos Aires is much more an Standard, bcs Floor longer in the Band, 2. Its not an usual Song for Nightwish, but then, there are no typical Songs for NW, yet they all sound like NW:) Ullien Pipes are surely also explained. I had the Feel, you didnt get it, but youre an such an gentle Couple, you let us not down:) just my perception of the Recap. It was an nice to Watch , thx for that subbed, and lets see if you find some Tunes of NW that gets you entertained :) Stay Healthy- and pray for Ukraine.

Well don't excuse your self cause something doesn't fit your expectations or is simply not your cup of tea. Nightwish is extremely versitile and I am sure that there is aloot of tracks that will suit your taste. So what do you prefer? Harder? then have a look at Romanticide from the same concert. More Epic? then have a look at Ghost Love Score same concert. Softer? Gav a look at Dead Boys Poem Mexico concert... Enjoy!

You've arrived at the time when Floor Jansen had been with the band ten months having taken over mid tour late 2012 learning setlist in 48 hours. Most of the 82,000 crowd are hearing her sing with Nightwish for the first time. She has taken them to new level as can sing in any style. First singer, Tarja,(1996-2005) was very operatic. Second singer Annette (2007-2012) was quite poppy and couldn't sing all the Tarja songs and wasn't great live but two albums written for her. And now Floor can sing everything. Just listen to Ghost Love Score at this concert then pass judgement. Troy is playing the Uilleann (elbow) pipes. He's from the UK and plays everything. LOL.

The film is strange but interesting with all the band acting. Worth watching and puts some context to a number of songs when you are interpreting lyrics. You should watch the Buenos Aires 2018 version of this. The audience is incredible.

Nightwish is a Symphonic metal band. Most of there songs are that or have that element but they do have heavier songs and softer songs ballad like you just have to check some more out. As for Floor Jansen she is trained in Opera/Classical music and theatre but she is trained in a school of Rock trained in Metal as well. She can sing Pop as well. Do check out her cover songs and also when she was on The Beste Zangers ( Best singers ) she can sing in Dutch, Italian, Spanish, German, English and more. Check out also Tuomas holopainen The key board player and creator of this band his Wife Johanna and Tuomas has also done side projects you may like Music inspired by The life and times of scrooge ( yes the Duck ) and Auri . Please loo into more Nightwish. For me NW is just like Tool, Rush and Floyd. The last song of theirs I listened to is my favorite. I ask that you look into Ghost Love Score at this same show. That is a fan favorite and one that will give you a very good idea of what this band is capable of.

It's a feature of the band. They mix folk, doom metal, power metal, ballads and orchestrations. Symphonic metal and not opera metal. If you like opera listen to Therion, Haggard and Thy Majesty.

Interesting first choice for Nightwish. I think nobody has started Nightwish journey with this one. It is still good, although Buenos Aires version is better. Maybe Ghost Love Score next, then just follow Gabriel list if you like

Actually, there are two different recordings - one with Anette and one with Floor. They carry different titles. Floor is on "Showtime, Storytime". Anette is on "Imaginaerum".

I think there's no band more versatile as Nightwish from "poppy" to "operatic". My advice: just see Gabriel Bardac's list and you wll see/hear. This whole Wacken 2013 concert is the best live concert ever. Stick with it and Floor Jansen and Nightwish will knock your socks off. Tool, Ginger, Epica, etc. bands just don't do nothing with my socks. LOL. My own opinion and preference.

A weird place to start I will say🤔 you must react to ‘Ghost Love Score’ Wacken 2013 - Floor Jansen transformed that song for me. Probably 100 times better than the album version. You got the right gig. Just the wrong song to begin with. GLS - You will not regret it!

Also, please learn to pause your videos and react more in the moment, or be prepared to have your videos taken down by copyright strikes 24/7. Not related to Nightwish in any way, just in general. Also, whenever you pause - and talk - rewind 5-10 seconds (press left arrow twice) before resuming. And try not to pause during epic moments or solos (or be prepared for an outcry in the comments).

Babymetal - Road of Resistance (live in japan) is the classic example of if you don't pause it often, they will remove your video. But it's just the most extreme example, this is true for most videos once your channel grows a bit more. Just start doing it now. You should be pausing every verse+refrain, and every bridge section, etc. Stop it, and talk about what you just witnessed. I'm saying this for your own good, believe me or not.

Sorry for offending you - I was expecting it to be more operatic because of what I knew about the original singer (who we also saw on the Within Temptation song we watched a while back), who very much had an operatic style. Beyond that, what makes this symphonic? Big keyboard/string sounds? Not looking for a fight, I'm genuinely curious. Cheers
