Rimmer catches a holo-virus that causes him to go insane. Mr. Flibble is very cross.
This is one of those episodes that I had to edit to death to get it past the Content ID System--a better-looking version can be found here:

Perfect. Love this episode, and entering another month of quarantine, the King of the Potato People agrees.
Funnily enough I can imagine Cat wearing the dress at the end would have made the most sense. The furthest Cat can take bad attire would be specifically to get revenge against Rimmer and nobody else. Plus perhaps by cat logic army boots go well with gingham dresses, too.
We can't possibly do that, who would clear up the mess. Is for me the best line.
Frankenstein in Cat's world IS the creator, it was the name of Lister's cat from which his entire race evolved. Kryten is a blasphemer.

Holy mother, yeah.
I have many reasons for loving many episodes, but in a pinch I'll always claim this one as my favourite. It's just a perfect mix of character development and "Rule Of Funny" as far as the writing goes, and it also manages to play to the strengths of every member of the cast - often playing against type as a result of the storyline.
In a weird coincidence, Kryten's glitch ranting about "winning self determination for the South Moldavian People". Well, years later, frequent guest star Tony Hawk went to Moldova for a book, and has since done a hell of a lot of charity work, in particular for childrens' health care in the country.
My headcanon is that they let Rimmer out not long after playing the prank on him. At least it's better than what happened to him at the end of Meltdown...
Actually knitted my dad a Mr Flibble puppet for his birthday last year.

The winter has hit where I live with a vengeance, so I've had the Red Dwarf theme stuck in my head for most of this week. IT'S COLD OUTSIIIIIIIDE... D
mr flibble was the name of a little leopard puppet I had because I loved this episode as a child
After I wash my hands at a public bathroom and there is no paper towels or dryers, I’ll shake my wet hands and recite “ boys from the dwarf” 6:31-6:37 No one gets it !!
Of course this whole episode could be avoided if Holly shut off Rimmer and rebooted him.
This is the episode that, in a way, got me into Red Dwarf. Settle in. I came across an MLP parody video one day that used the sound clip of Rimmer's first appearance in the gingham dress and thought it was funny. I tracked down where it originally came from but didn't think much of it. Then some years later my grandfather passed away. It was hard for me because we were very close. For some reason during the usual mourning period I remembered that moment with Rimmer, watched it again, and found it was the laugh I truly needed. Anytime the grief got to me I went somewhere by myself and watched the clip, and it always made me feel better for a while. This led me to check out more of Red Dwarf, and I've been a fan ever since. This episode is hilarious, but it holds a special place in my heart because of how it helped me get through the sadness.

From what I remember it was Rarity as Rimmer in the video, but then again it has been a long time. I need to track it down again.
I don't think the rest of the crew were punishing Rimmer for going nuts and trying to kill him, but they most definitely were punishing him for the five days prior to that. I can't speak for anyone else obviously, but personally I think I'd be ready for a bit of payback after five days of sprouts and Reggie Wilson on an endless loop, and unlike Lister I like sprouts! As for "Why didn't they use the luck virus earlier?" I personally think they just forgot it was an option until their lives were in danger.

One of my favorite episodes.
I like how Rimmer gets even at the start, Cat and Lister can act like right gits towards Rimmer, often without provocation. I do wonder if the holovirus was already at work when he quarantined them or was it just Rimmer getting even?
I could use the Luck Virus whenever I play Mario Party.
I believe they could get Cat into the outfit, considering it would goad Rimmer so well after all he did, even if he didn't really know about it. Plus he could probably be convinced the outfit was in style during a certain period of time or to a particular group, so he could just use his imagination to help him pull through until they goaded Rimmer for a bit then left.

It was "Betty Boop". I can't leave in every single funny line--the video would run too long and it's harder to follow the "ten second rule" that way (clips that run over 10 seconds are easier to catch by the Content ID System). Plus, while the line was kinda cute, I didn't think it was one of the funnier ones from that episode.

The creation is sometimes referred to as Frankenstein's son, sometimes his pet. Either case, it is common practice, even in the 19th century, to name both pets and offspring after yourself. So yeah, Frankenstein was the name of both the doctor and the monster.

Don’t know if someone has said this. But after Rimmer and Armstrong’s conversation ends with the comm exploding. We see a bolt of static electricity touch Rimmer. Implying it’s the hollow virus affecting him.
The creature in Frankenstein isn’t given a fixed name in the book the most common is the wrech

King of the Potato People? Time to whip out some Devo records! 😁
Anyone remember Mr T. During the late 90s, there were a number of fan websites dedicated to the man. One thing that there were a lot of were these fan made flash vids, and photo edited stories done in comic book form called Mr T vs ….. Basically, Mr T would be pitted against various celebrates and characters from other tv shows and films. Examples being Mr T vs The Young Ones, Skeletor, Unicron and the Scooby-Doo gang. One I liked reading was Mr T vs Red Dwarf, which used edited photo shot from various A Team and Re Dwarf episodes with added speech bubbles of dialogue. The story was Rimmer contracts a new hollow virus, so the rest decide to vacate Red Dwarf. However, Kryten suggests they use a new security defence the JMC had installed aboard Red Dwarf, but was never use. It was so effective, Space Pirates switched careers to being sales men. Enter Mr T.
Came back to watch this after I built a D&D warlock for a one-shot who had Mr. Flibble as his otherworldly patron and focused on extremely long-range magic attacks. Haven't played the session yet but I can't wait to use the line "that'll teach you to be bread baskets."

That's how I always saw it. I honestly saw the reveal that he has the holo-virus as explaining why he seemed so nutty earlier.
If you go frame by frame at the bit where the radio blows up you can see an electric arc going from it to Rimmer. The moment of infection. Talk about the attention to detail.
Series V is EASILY the best Red Dwarf season, and although this isn't the best out of the lot (that crown going to "Back to Reality"), it's easily my personal favourite. It's just a basic premise of "Rimmer is an asshole, everyone else isn't having it, they discover a plague, Rimmer gets the plague and goes insane, everyone else stops him and decide to dish out payback at the end", but the way it's done is so mind-bogglingly funny that it transcends into something truly special, much like most of Series V. The Space Corps Directive notebook, the fantastic performance from Chris Barrie, the scene where the characters are at eachother's nerves in quarantine, Mr. Flibble, the bait-and-switch ending where you think Rimmer is in a hospital bed only for it to be revealed that he's in quarantine so the rest of the Boys can get some payback, it's fried gold from start to finish! And honestly, I think Rimmer had it coming at the end. He wasn't the instigator, but he still displayed some pretty _smeggy_ behaviour throughout the episode.
Ironically, the perception that Frankenstein was the name of the creator and not the monster is itself a misconception. While this is true in many adaptations of the work, where the monster has no mind to speak of, in the book the monster does briefly mention to his creator that he has taken his last name, as he sees himself a superior version of him.

Atticus Shadowmore Well, it would be kind of tedious to call it "Frankenstein; the monster, not the doctor." Also, it's perhaps worth mentioning that the book, which is narrated (for the most part) by Dr. Frankenstein, never actually refers to the monster as Frankenstein, as the doctor refuses to recognize the monster's claim; instead, the monster is mostly referred to as "the wretch." Of course, "Frankenstein's Wretch" sounds distressingly close to "Frankenstein's Retch", which is horrifying in entirely the wrong way, so most people know it as Frankenstein's monster. Once again homonyms ruin everything.

In some versions he states at the end that his creator never gave him a name when he was asked I believe. Though the novel had changes over time by Mary shelley herself if I recall, though the changes where never major, the ending is tragic for everyone involved each time, the creature was mistreated and shunned by his own creator from start not to mention the actions of the people he meets in his desperation for friendship and love makes him perform actions he would later regret deeply. All the creature wanted was for someone to care about him and not be afraid of him, the constant hate he got for no reason other then his looks (( he pretty much looks like a living corpse so yeah... )) destroys him mentally and he lashes out. The ending is sad, and honestly I feel more for the creature then I do for Victor, but the people the creature hurt did not deserve what they got either and the creature shows actual regret and despair over his actions, I do not think Victor ever understands what he has done or regrets it, been a bit of time since I read it last mind you so I could be wrong. The absolute best adaption of the work though, is Junji ito's Frankenstein, highly recommend it.
In Holoship they had two holograms running at the same time but one was someone they were interviewing from the other ships database. It's likely they were being served up by the holoship.
My fave episode ever
You say you can't believe Lister and Kryten convinced Cat to wear the dress? Nah, once he heard it was to mess with Rimmer, Cat was the first one dressed.
Mr.Flibbles very cross. 🤣🤣
Being mean to Remmier, the one thing the cat cares more about than fashion!
I have taken up ventriloquism not that long now. I have been using it for Mr Flibble to create my own act which parody's puppet sideshows from classic Sci-fi TV. I have my own Mr Flibble puppet and I have used him for various hijinks that I have put on my Facebook page. I think I have great potential with this act of mine. Already Mr Flibble has given me a positive energy, hypnotized me to be Mr Bean and shown me how to get over a lousy sex life.
I love these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know when I first watched this episode I thought the ending was trying to imply that kryten lister and cat somehow contracted the virus.

Kryten contracting the virus would be believable.
There's two permanent Rimmers in the first season's episode 6 "Me2"; Red Dwarf's pretty flexible with its own rules so breaking the "one hologram at a time" one's pretty mild in comparison to some of the bigger stretches of logic they've engaged in.

I don’t think this episode makes Me2 a contradiction on the one hologram at all times rule as much as the other commenters believes. They never did say you can’t have two of the same individuals as holograms and in computer terms, Rimmer II would just be a duplicate file which wouldn’t cost up as much power as having two wholly different holograms on the same ship together. Two Rimmers would be fine but not Rimmer and somebody else.
