I always found it weird that the dinghy rides were considered "water rides" even though you can't see any water in the tubes. It would've been nice if the artist had added a small stream of water to it, though I could see the difficulty in animating it in such a way that it would look convincing.

@jwhite5008

Yes, you guessed correctly why it isn't there. Animating it in a non unconvincing way would be way too expensive when original RCT was made. However, there is very little water in those slides, the point of view is rather faraway, and the water layer is mostly transparent, so it wouldn't be very evident anyway.
@DeadHandtheSurvivor

@@jwhite5008 That being said, if they added some splash particles while the ride is going through the slide fast, it would of gone a long way to make it look like there's water in the tunnel.

I do love the idea that if you have a guest going through a tunnel at the top of a slope, they're just grinding their heads on the tunnel roof. it's like that one bit from Futurama where Fry is doing the skateboarding contest with the kids in the Los Angeles wastelands, and they go through a tunnel.

Designs with lift hills following normal track pieces (like at 6:36) have a small problem: when the ride breaks down, sometimes the boats get stuck and will not reach the lift after repair. You have to close and reopen the ride.
7:48 "It's a solid water ride" So, an ice ride...?
I'm surprised that it doesn't fly off curves. I always thought that was the bigger danger but I guess I was wrong. What I am even more surprised is that the stat requirement seems rather harsh in terms of drop height if you don't know about the tunnel trick. If not, you'll try everything for it to not explode AND you have to take care that it doesn't lose speed too quickly. 9 metres is pretty harsh in my opinion.

Ride overview, YES! I wonder if there's a way to build one of these that works like an IRL one. Where you go up the staircase/queue, the dinghy is ready, you go down, and immediately exit. Probably multiple stations.

biggest problem with these is station size. if the two stations don't match, your vehicle limit is based on whichever station is smaller. if you can use cheats to increase the maximum number of dinghies, you might be able to get a decent throughput though. in real life, of course, they just have you carry up your own riding tube.
@PianoKwanMan
Жыл бұрын
One exit station, and one enter. It works really good with the Log flume and Splash boats, becasue the number of boats is dependent on the track length, and not the station length. So, you can have a BIG drop, around a bend and into an Exit station. Then it goes up at max speed to the top Entrance and repeat.
I've always liked that Dinghy slide in RCT3 is the only way to build a water ride with a corkscrew in it if you make a sharp turn and hill.
@SupersuMC
Жыл бұрын
Plot twist: They were doing this in RCT 1 and 2 as well, we just couldn't see inside to notice. ;-)
I mostly use dinghy slides for decoration.. An enclosed straight piece works very well for the center hub of a custom ferris wheel! And of course, they work great as pieces of pipe :) On the technical side of things, enclosed dinghy slide track sections are often overlaid on normal track if you want multiple trains to run on the same section, without the tracks merging. A very useful ride indeed!
Your ride design reviews and random, often sadistic, commentary is the best! Love it so much! 😅😊
My major problem with these rides (this and side friction coaster) is that they randomly slow down and cause a backlog of trains not making it to the station. I have no idea what causes this. It happens on Demon Drop too after a while.
@ericsanders7226
Жыл бұрын
Someone said it in a different comment, but it is probably because a dinghy with heavier guests goes faster than a dinghy with lighter guests so they collide. However, the difference in speeds is not great enough to cause them to explode, so the one with the heavier guests fall back down in between two hills. Then they collide with another dinghy which may or may not explode because of the speed. If not, they create a backlog of the dinghies.
When I was little, I remember this one time. I built a massive dinghy slide, really impressive, biggest attraction in the whole park. It had many slopes, turns and twists, and then by the end, when I was kinda done already, but needed to fill space to reach the station, I built a tiny little bump at the very end, just for fun. Just to give the guests a little extra fun on their otherwise simple way to the station. I believe you know exactly how this goes - I didn't know testing rides existed back then, so I opened it, guests flooded in, they made it all the way through all the turns and slopes and amazing drops, and then like 16 people died on that tiny little hump at the very end. Since the ride was so big and took so long to get through, all the guests that were mid-way through were a lost cause by the time the first ones died.
I always found this ride a pain because once you have a safety cut-off issue, eventually the boats will bunch up at a spot and not have enough speed to move and I never realize it until the game warns me way later.
Correction: open tracks (non tunnel) give more excitement bonus than tunnel ones
I guess that the dinghy rafts are filled with pure oxygen which is flammable
Marcel: So that's the dinghy slide. It's a solid water ride. Me: You mean an ice ride?
Hey Marcel Vos, this is your biggest fan! First, I want to thank you SO much for making the best content out of any youtuber I've ever watched! Your videos have gotten me into playing RCT2 and playing that game has been the best decision of my entire life! It's really not a surprise to me that you made it to 100,000 subs! You really deserved it! Thank you SOOOOO much! Oh yeah, and have you made a ride overview for the twister coaster yet? If not, can you please make one because I can't find it. Thanks so much for stopping by! I'm so excited for all the amazing videos coming soon!
20-something years ago, Action park: Park operator: Our guests just got killed by a dingy slide!!! Smashed their head in the tunnel, it seems. Ride designer: Impossible! It worked fine in RCT.
100% clicked to hear you say "dinghy" for 8 minutes. I love your videos.
I love how the guests on the dinghy slide fly right into the guests on the swan boat at 3:48 and they are ok
I have seen a glitch with dinghy slides a couple times where the dinghy would somehow think it is at the station when it is not, then move slowly around the whole track at a constant speed (without changing speed in hills.) This causes others to crash into it leaving them stuck in a valley somewhere or exploding. I do not know how to recreate this and I have yet to see it in OpenRCT2. Because of this I ended up always building my slides with 0 uphill sections so I don't have to keep fixing it.
Thank you for another really useful ride overview :)
maybe dinghies are also filled with hydrogen as opposed to air for i guess added fear factor? i am quite the fan of dinghy slide in RCT1 but my dessigns are costly and questionable. often suffering from stalling in turns (something i tend to work around via having drops as opposed to climbes before turns)
@Michael21994
Жыл бұрын
I guess your design is quite long as you say it is costly. Since dinghies are so light, dinghies with guests lose less speed than empty dinghies. It is very easy for full dinghies catching up to empty dinghies and collide, which sometimes cause stuck or even crash. You can try disabling maximum waiting time so that no dinghies will leave the station when it's empty.
@theuncalledfor
Жыл бұрын
Hydrogen alone doesn't explode. Make it a hydrogen-air mixture.
RCT2 rides are the most dangerous rides in the world. If you go on the Dinghy Slide, you're either going to fly off the track and explode. Rollback and explode. Smash your head into the tunnel walls (and somehow survive without injury). Or land in the water and still somehow explode. Every park is a potential Class Action park.
I've been playing Farming Simulator 22 recently and one of the new things in the Platinum Expansion (which focuses on forestry) is helping build a wooden rollercoaster and it gave me the idea for a series I wanted to share which is recreating rollercoasters from other games in OpenRCT2. Alongside the Silverrun Rollercoaster in Farming Simulator 22, there's also the Poseidon from Tower Unite which resembles a steel twister coaster. Of course, this is just a random idea and I understand you wouldn't want to do the idea since those are probably games you've never even *heard* of but I thought maybe it would be an interesting idea to see how the rides behave in RCT.
Your videos always make my day, thank you!
I think you can optimize the throughput of this a lot by elevating the station and having a drop first, gain some speed, pass through the entire course, and then still have enough kinetic energy to make it halfway up back to the station. Therefore you need less lift hill pieces.
The thumbnail gave me so much joy
Bruh I've been watching your videos for a couple years now and I would've sworn on my life you were saying "Thrill Boot". It wasn't until the subtitles CLEARLY stated "Throughput" that I caught on haha!
Yay! A new ride overview!
If you do more in the future, any chance we could see an overview on the mine train coaster? Or perhaps one of the inverted coasters like the compact, lay-down, or flying coaster? I undetstand you're busy IRL, but just some suggestions for the future.
Always a good time when you see a Marcel upload for sure.
Been watching a while. Have you ever done a video on block brakes? Advantages and disadvantages...
Lol finally I learn how to build dinghy slides without killing everybody, that was my #1 struggle back in the day because I always went overboard with the drop and wondered why the guests would always get launched into space hahahahaha😊
Ah, yes. The ride that taught me that accidents could happen in the game. Because of it, I spent countless hours eying to break every single one of them to try and make them crash in some way. XD
This is exactly why so many of my slides get the name “Head Banger”
The image that you choose for the video resume very well this ride.
i wonder if you have any combined ride structures that you use a lot? like ive seen in your short dinghy slide there would be place to run a wild mouse coaster or a virginia reel through it while having the station right on the other side of the slide's station

I've been waiting for so long for this video 😍 kon minder 🤷♂️
Would be great if OpenRCT were able to make it so that airborne vehicles can land back on the track without crashing so you can design intentional jumps.
I think you missed out on a warning for dinghy slide operators. If for any reason the slide breaks down, boats on the ride are very likely to bump into each other and never make it to the station. Always check up on the dinghy slide after a maintenance to see if you need to force close and reopen the ride.
No one: RCT: What if we filled the dinghies with hydrogen?
What's insane about Dinghy Slide is that official design also crash quite often.
Love the Matilda's style at 4:11
I have to say your voice is very soothing
3:00 Ah yes, my favorite ride, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Dinghy slides look so cool when racing side by side. I like to make blue "Vein" and red "Artery" racers and the dingys are colored like red/white blood cells.
Marcel Vos the Boss!
"Why do dinghies explode if they're just filled with air?" Hydrogen.
I always had issues if it had a second lift hill in the design, when it breaks down boats get stuck and you have to close and reopen the ride to reset it.
I caused a lot of chaos with this one back in the day.
I assume instead of filling the dinghies with regular air, they used hydrogen for some reason. However, that made them far too light, so they added random pieces of metal to weigh them back down a bit.
