RC No Prep Drag Car tire basics Hoosier Mickey Thompson Proline Reaction for Drag Slash DR10 22s

I cover basic information. I measure the contact patch of each of the three. I talk about the basics about the tires... belted vs. non-belted; foam, and foam width. These are all good options, but setting them up is where many fall short do to foam insert width vs. contact patch width.
The wide wheels used are PRO2794-03 with PRO10188-203 Belted ProLine tires. The Drag Slash rears are TRA9475X.

Great idea cut foam turn foam inside out and put radius edge to the inside with the short sidewall gets a better leveling affect on the contact patch.. Just got my first R/C Losi 22s 69 Camaro drag car thanks for the help..

Do you do this in belted or non belted tires too? The foam stretches less the way you are describing. So, it might just reduce ballooning a bit in the MT tires.

What most of us do is we buy the standard with tires and get wide wheels

Tires that ballon have less traction and are a lot more unstable. Plus if your body is low you’ll have tire drag on the body once they ballin which in return will slow your car down. Belted tires are the way to go that’s why the are the tire that one at King of the Streets 2022. Ballooning tires makes the rear end of your car very loose. Oh and the contact patch you keep mentioning is really small once those tires start to balloon.

Good stuff. I will add that in minute 3:30 I mentioned that tires that do not balloon are more stable or ballooning tires are less stable. And at minute 4:10 I typed how if tires balloon as weight shifts the car will pull left or right... so less stability can be inferred. I probably should have inserted and audio clip for this bit. Then in minutes 10:10, 11:35, and 12:20 I talk about how rounder tires have less of a contact patch and how if the foam balloons the tire the contact patch is reduced dramatically. So yes... completely agree that ballooning tires due to speed, just like ballooned tires due to foam (more exaggerated with speed) will reduce the contact patch. I assumed that would be inferred. I did not mention the potential of contacting the body. You are right. That is really bad for stability as it would act as a break on each tire that could case it to break one side more than the other... causing it to pull/pitch one way or another. And it is made worse if the foam breaks. You are absolutely right about the tires hitting the body. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers.

True... I just don't like the smell and how it gels up and having to clean it. 😅 It's just easier to cut them and glue them back up.

Any drag standards tires will fit a Slash. Just mount the fronts to the correct offset wheels.

Seems to me when a tire balloons you have less rubber on the road so less traction. One ballooning more than the other you loose control. No prep drag rules now require foams JS

Cool. Good to know. Can you send me the update? DHRC and Horizon has not updated it so it still says running "no foams" is allowed.

@@telecomandorc Guess you can go without foam but I'm not sure why you would. I just got the reaction tires and they don't ballooon. Guess you know that already

@@zee-lv4jh I agree. I do not think running without foams is the best idea. These are not pneumatic tires so there is no real significant force let's say between the middle of the tire and asphalt. And like you mentioned, belted tires (I have the PL), foams are great because they apply pressure and the belts keep it together especially on the wide options. I just did not realize rules may have changed to prohibit not running foams since not running foams seems to me as a disadvantage.
