RB3 TAKES FLIGHT IN BARCELONA | 1st May | America's Cup
Спорт
Big day for INEOS Britannia as the sailing team took over the programme after countless hours of detailed, relentless design and technical fit-out, led by Sir Ben Ainslie with a midday dock-out and a superb, if shifting, breeze in the range of 8-13 knots. Perfect for the first shake-down of a boat that looks supremely designed with every inch considered to the nth degree.

What a beautiful performing semi foiling boat they have built. Looks like bow well designed for handling being in the water 50% of the time.

From a Kiwi boatbuilder congratulations to your team, look fwd to a great competition.
This is going to be a great AC
From a ETNZ fanboy i love it your boat looks awesome cutting through the water in flight. Man i can't wait
Sailing has taken some huge strides from designs and the speeds they can achieve. It certainly has moved forward love it can’t wait to watch AC 💪🏻👊🏻🙏🏻
Wow that boat looked good, really fast and stable
It has that classy yacht look to it, for the shape of the bow and flank and the sharp keel, I like it!
For Sir Ben, he seemed to be very happy for first time out under sail. RB3 also looked pretty good and flying well for a few moments in what was a short video.
Looks like a Wright Whale....world's fastest!
Best looking boat if that counts for anything.😁 What a great age of sailing we are experiencing at the moment.
Runs very clean , cant wait for the action.
Watching on from NZ🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🙏🙏🙏looking good
That boat looks brutally amazing. First sail and already very steady with the gap well sealed by that skeg. This is gonna be good.

@erikwellerweller8623

@@bashab3098 Pressure spills off the end of wings, in this case it goes under the hull reducing the driving force of the sail. The boats want to sail as close to the water as possible to prevent this. In windsurfing pulling the sail back to seal the gap to the deck of the board is like hitting a super turbo boost button, it is a very large effect.
The bow-down, with downward-pulling rudder thing IS interesting: If the stern can be pulled-down at low-end (displacement) speeds, lifting the relatively buoyant, full bow (already sitting high in the water), does this pivot-off the front of the boat to start planing/ground-effect/reducing wetted-area, to get up on the foils earlier, and THEN crank-on higher righting-moments, using the down-pulling rudder = more total righting moment? The mast looks more forward too, so center of force in the rig is further forward, requiring/allowing for a greater ‘down-force’ at the rudder to be carried, with a component across the boat for higher loads/energies in the system. I’m terrified for that rudder lol - do we have any spy-shots of it? Is it obviously more strongly-built than on the other boats? Overall it looks less radical on the water than it did while suspended. And it foiled and looked reasonably stable. Game-on.
Jeez that loks fast for a first day out congrats from NZ hope you get the best out of her

Chase boat 2 motors keeps up ,TNZ chase boat 4 motors,can't keep up.
that boats looks quick. should be s good challenge.
I think it’s sad we won’t see the crew as they sail , it’s one of the elements of sailing and seeing it would be worth the loss of top end speed if it was the same across the fleet
I won't compare INEOS to the other teams until they also head to Barcelona, but RB3 looks in better form than Alinghi's AC75 first time out on the water.

Yes downwind will be interesting.
Lookin good
Is the 3D jib trimming system completely below the deck?
If they can get the balance right with this new design they will be fast or there will be a lot of nose diving and breakages.
Looks like its continuously trying to fly downward into the water. Might be a handful in bigger seas?

I suspect bow down at moderate speeds is the idea. Pitching nose up is really, really bad at higher speeds as we saw last time, with eg American Magic
@MontyD

Looking at rudder trim this appears to be on purpose- the fact the skeg is rocked forwards also suggests that they've designed the boat to be sailed pretty bow down. Looking at that footage im not sure quite how smart this is in the chop.
Looks good - tendency appears a little bow down, perhaps - good? Could be my imagination, or was there a bit of a tendency to luff? If true, wondering whether that might have an impact on rudder cavitation at higher speeds. As others have said, boat doesn't look very sticky at all, which is promising for the transitions and low speed sailing off the foils.
Looks amazing 💪 I now looks don’t win races 👍 would like to see her in thirty knots
Reminds me of the F1 'porpoising' a couple of seasons ago. Need to get that balance fixed, which wont be easy.
Good thing is ETNZ only had to build a boat for October conditions in Barcelona. The rest have to build a boat for August, September & October.

That took ages to get out of the water. I just can't see this boat being a threat.
Does anyone understand the reason for the rear skeg ?
Crossing fingers its going to be a competitive boat
Audio volume is very low.
Not bad for First sail, compared to NZ doing their First sail,that looked slow,but long way, before race's,good luck everyone

Looks quite a bit chunkier than the Italian, Kiwi and Swiss boats. I don’t think it will be as fast. The American boat looks similar to this one as well.

How soon to flip it ?
Looks the least controlled of all the new 75s we've seen sailing so far.
@firstnamelastname2669

True but that could be due to the rear rudder pulling down. The question is will they be able to control it well enough to max the speed potential that gives?
@JGRGilbert
13 күн бұрын
@@firstnamelastname2669 Oh yes, that's an interesting thought, if the rudder is indeed pulling down.
Something about Sir Ben's attire that reminds me of the cavas suit from the old standard diving dress but without the copper helmet. You'd think they could afford something a bit nicer looking.
I know its early and sorry to say. It looks dodgy as a 4 pound note.
I hope for their sake that it was their 1st sail in the boat. Definitely not as good as other boats we have seen on the water. Not very smooth at all, can't see this boat challenging for the cup

Bow heavy..tips forward.. Weight is on rudder
@tullochgorum6323
15 күн бұрын
According to the analysts, the center of gravity is farther forward than the others. They speculate that the idea is there is less lift needed in the rudder and it can just steer, creating less drag. First time out it's looking tricky to control, as Ben pretty much admitted when he said they had to tweak the stability controls.

Mozzy sails said it could be an advantage they have moved the weight forward so the rudder is providing a down force as opposed to lifting force apparently it will give them more righting moment.

If its bow heavy then the rudder foil is keeping it from digging in. Hence maybe the term weight on the rudder would be my guess. @@weatheranddarkness
